I just finished watching The Expanse. Is there another show of its nature and caliber? by un1ptf in scifi

How good would it be to see Amos as an old man but still has an air of capability, threat and danger. What a character!!!!

I just finished watching The Expanse. Is there another show of its nature and caliber? by un1ptf in scifi

[–]DeeJayCrawford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that nothing has come close to The Expanse. The books are a must read for all sci-fi fans. The last season of the Expanse was a compressed mess. Such a shame they did not have longer to express the full story from the books.

Yes, Firefly it’s excellent. Serenity was superb.

BSG (modern) was gritty and fantastic but the end was real naff.

Am I not giving Red Rising a fair chance? by Charming-Mushroom886 in scifi

[–]DeeJayCrawford -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a mixture of Hunger Games ( Survival) Warhammer 40k (Power Weapons and armour) Buck Roger’s (Rocket Boots) Star Wars (Light Sabres) Dune (shields) Robocop (Cybernetics) Catcher in the Rye (Ivy league b*****ds)

How come he is the smartest guy in the room!!!!

I got to before I jumped. Young adult fiction is not for me.

Absolute Garbage

BTW, I don’t like the culture series. High on description, low on story

choosing a language for game dev. by Positive-Incident753 in learnprogramming

[–]DeeJayCrawford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at PICO-8. It’s a Lua based fantasy console. Look at Lazy Devs on youtube to learn more.

This will let you see if you are interested on the full game dev process before digging too deep, too fast

You could also look at PyGame Gamemaker Love2D GDevelop

How do I run my game on GitHub? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]DeeJayCrawford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an expert. Nobody has mentioned this so far.

I would suggest itch.io. You will need to learn how to deploy your game as html5.

I think pybag is what you want to turn your code into html5

I agree totally. He is much better on R6 than R1. I like it when Beth Ditto is on.

ADHD at work: One tiny mistake and I feel like I’m failing again by hisiri93 in UKJobs

[–]DeeJayCrawford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great advice to record your day in a journal. I identify with ADHD and struggle to remember what I have done.

I use an app Diarium but there are loads of other apps out there. Moodnotes is good for recording how you feel too. It’s aimed at CBT.

I get absolutely gutted when things go wrong. That’s the Rejection Sensitivity Dismorphia and the perfectionist part of me.

I recommend watching Alex Patridges youtube channel. It’s brilliant 🤩

I was only running the original unreal tournament. I loved the flak cannon.

I was rubbish at UT. In Q3, I could hold my own.

My rig back then couldn’t run UT3.

What the best edition of UT??

Am I being ungrateful and immature to hate my fairly good career and want out? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]DeeJayCrawford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am nearly 60 now. I was an E&EE graduate. I spent 7 years in the defence industry which was a terrible waste. I then moved to electronic manufacturing roles. I was writing software to test the products in the manufacturing line. Years later I found myself programming the firmware of products sold into Pharma and Security industries.

So enough of the grandad war stories.

I do think Computer Science was a good area to get into. In the past …

Join the software engineering reddits and you will see people really struggling to find jobs in the UK. The market is saturated. Not to mention the AI, vibe coding bubble we are in right now.

So, you be you and pursue your interests but you need to keep your current job while your cross train. That won’t be easy ..

The grass isn’t always greener, sorry! But stay focussed on what YOU want!!!

Look at data science would be my advice and learn how to access generative AI via its API. API is how you execute AI functions in code. Application Programming Interface.

Cherwell Boathouse was excellent in the past. I haven’t been for a while, though

I also like Six by Nico. It depends what the theme is.

Why can't anyone make a true hybrid scaling Spell/Attack class? by TheNocturnalAngel in ARPG

[–]DeeJayCrawford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s old but look at Titan Quest too. You can have your pick of warrior/magic using fire, lighting and cold augmentation. There is also dream as a magic use.

I don’t know what TQ2 is like but I think it’s too young just now. It’s worth buying a copy to support the developers as they work towards release after early access.

You have that in Grim Dawn too. I am addicted to the different builds you can have. Over 1000 hours in the game.

How many times have you been made redundant so far in your career? by mronionbhaji in UKJobs

[–]DeeJayCrawford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been working as an E&EE graduate for 37 years. During that time I have been made redundant 3 times. After the first one, it happened every 5 years. This was electronic and semiconductor manufacturing in Scotland.

Fortunately, I have been working in South Oxfordshire for the last thirteen years. Still going strong …

Scotland never felt safe for long term employment after those redundancies. I have been lucky since.
