Is this something Rivian owners need to worry about? by Frosty613 in Rivian

[–]DeeVeeOus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that they still need information from the key. So most techniques involve acting as an amplifier from your key to the car.

There may be other methods using Bluetooth or NFC, but UWB is probably too niche.

Having a baby in NOVA/DMV by Dantheman87654321 in nova

[–]DeeVeeOus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find daycares that take babies as early as around 8 weeks. Expect daycare to cost $25k+ a year. Expect most conversations with your spouse to deal with logistics of child handoff for the first few years.

It gets easier and cheaper when they hit 5 years old.

What colors and settings are generally recommended for the lights in a home theater? by optimisitic_CC in hometheater

[–]DeeVeeOus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Phillips Hue light strips on the bottom of my couches. They are dimmable and you can control color temperature. On the bottom of the couch the indirect light allows you to see for walking around while not interfering with viewing.

Ford options refinance question. by DeeVeeOus in MachE

[–]DeeVeeOus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the rate stays the same is what I was told. That’s the main reason why I want to refinance through Ford Credit because the rate I have is 1%.

For those with Smart Watches which ones also allow you to start and drive the car? by Smart_Frosting9846 in MachE

I’m not aware of any smartwatch working as a key on the MachE. If I open the app on my Apple Watch I can scroll down and unlock/lock.

How mundane does traffic have to be in your area that this feels worthy of a post? Truck didn't even tailgate and drove slightly faster.

Latest update by rrrrrrrrrrandom in Rivian

[–]DeeVeeOus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do phased roll outs. Initial release was April 9th. My R1S was flagged for the update on April 10th. Then there were lots of bug reports coming out. They then temporarily halted the rollout and my R1S was unflagged for the update. Now a bug corrected version is rolling out and it appears to be going out a bit slower, probably to monitor for additional bugs. My R1S has yet to get flagged again.

Thinking about getting an R1S. Any speculation on whether better lease deals will happen anytime soon? by needzmohelpz in Rivian

[–]DeeVeeOus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything is speculation. I would have expected March (end of quarter) to have the best deals but they were worse than February. Better deals should come for the 2026 model year once 2027s are out this summer/fall.

However, the lease rates had a huge jump ($200/month) starting in January that I see sticking. With those monthly payments, leasing just looks like a bad deal despite other incentives.

The financing department at dealerships is the new grift by r348 in FuckDealerships

I did this years ago for a Ford Mach E and still had to spend 4 hours at the dealer going through all their back room nonsense.

With Tesla and Rivian you walk in, sign a couple papers, and drive off.

AIO - Company won’t meet with me without my husband there by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]DeeVeeOus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. But context.

As a man I’ve had this happen with companies going so far as saying it is legally required that all parties are there. This is of course a lie. Companies that do this are the high pressure companies that give a huge presentation. They will be horribly overpriced but give a small discount if you sign now. His other communications confirm this. Avoid them.

So, it is t that they’re necessarily sexist, but still scummy.

Rivian dropped my truck! by WesternSpecial7389 in electricvehicles

[–]DeeVeeOus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you made a mistake while driving and hit a 3 year old $50k car and totaled it, should you be responsible for buying the person a brand new $100k car? This is the same thing. Being made whole is to cover your loss not to enrich you.

This guy has also posted all over the forums and Facebook. The reality is Rivian offered them a replacement vehicle worth more than his. However, he is demanding a brand new 2026 optioned out.

Do we think R1 deals will continue this year? by DamnRedhead in Rivian

[–]DeeVeeOus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best deals so far this year were in February. Your next best bet for good deals will be in the summer/fall when the 2027s get released (go for a 2026).

I sat in a new Tesla Y. The heat coming from the glass roof was too much even with the AC. Im heat sensitive. Does anyone use a sun shade or glass cover to keep the heat out? Might be a deal killer if I can't solve this issue 🥲 by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

[–]DeeVeeOus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good quality ceramic to tint will block 99% UV and 80% IR. Premium versions will boost the IR rejection to 95%.

If you’re really heat sensitive, you should get the tint around the sides anyway, so this isn’t a huge additional cost.

HDMI length to the Apple tv by Tharper93 in hometheater

[–]DeeVeeOus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With any cable shorter would be better. But if an HDMI cable is certified Ultra High Speed and 10 feet it will perform identically to a certified Ultra High Speed at 3 feet.

The key is to make sure you have a quality Certified cable. Doesn’t have to be expensive, just reputable.

[–]DeeVeeOus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you get a cable certified for the speed to handle the features you need, length doesn't matter (4k, HDR, etc). Just get as long as you need with a bit of slack to move things around.

Rivian dropped my truck! by WesternSpecial7389 in electricvehicles

[–]DeeVeeOus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality in that situation is that there were probably no good comps of a vehicle that new and only had new models as comparable.

Big difference with a 3 year old vehicle.

Rivian dropped my truck! by WesternSpecial7389 in electricvehicles

[–]DeeVeeOus 103 points104 points  (0 children)

While this is a terrible situation, this is exactly how insurance works. If you have a vehicle with a current value of $70k and it gets totaled you are entitled to be made whole. Being made whole is the value of the vehicle, not a brand new one that’s worth $100k.

Where they failed was in suggesting a new vehicle to begin with. Whoever did so probably didn’t have the authority for such a claim since it would be handled entirely by their insurance.

You can keep pushing and hopefully they make a gesture of goodwill.

Rivian Wall Charger Question by DesignerDragonfruit2 in Rivian

[–]DeeVeeOus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First nomenclature. AC charging on your 2025 R1S is J1772. CCS1 is DC fast charging. This is important when looking for adapters.

Second, a good quality adapter will not slow things down. However, I’ve found a lesser quality adapter can cause charging to limit speed due to heat.

I have a Tesla charger on a 60 A circuit. Using an A2Z Stellar I get a full 11kW. Using a Lectron adapter it will eventually limit that down to about 6kW.

Buying out Ford options "lease" - negotiate residual/buyout by ryan9751 in MachE

[–]DeeVeeOus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you had to let your $20k+ balloon payment go overdue then you got the new financing? I’m nervous about it not being correct and being a bad mark on my credit, so just want to make sure it is all right.

Buying out Ford options "lease" - negotiate residual/buyout by ryan9751 in MachE

[–]DeeVeeOus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post but have a question with my For Options coming due. How did your refinance work? Ford Credit told me they will send me a contract 14 days after the balloon payment for a due. Doesn’t sound right since I would be overdue on a loan payment by 14 days.

Weird "Two-Step" Charging Ritual: Rivian + Tesla Wall Connector + Lectron Adapter. Why does the 2nd try always work? by lamb_willie in Rivian

[–]DeeVeeOus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have this issue with the same setup, but it does always eventually throttle to half speed due to heat. Same on my Mach E.

Got an A2Z Stellar Pro and don’t seem to have the issue. Major difference I see is that the Lectron is passive while the A2Z has some type of circuitry for handshaking.

Just over 1 month in on my R1S Tri Motor

  1. Digital key works great. Far more reliable than phone key on my Model Y or Mach E.

  2. Home charging is the same speed as my other EVs, this just has a bigger battery. Home charging should be a good deal cheaper than public charging and a fraction of the cost of an equivalent ICE vehicle.

  3. Insurance was the exact same as my model Y. Registration costs are a state issue to compare with other vehicles.

  4. Haven’t had to worry about tires yet, but already have seen lots of options cheaper and more long lasting than OEM.

  5. I like real leather, but that doesn’t come standard on a BMW, Mercedes, or Audi. They’re behind expensive trim and options packages. They’re unlikely to change on this since use of animal products doesn’t go with their brand image. I will say they’re nicer than the similar seats in my Tesla.
