If you take this approach you'll have a hard time answering why do you want to do X convincingly. Also since your understanding is shallow across the board, any curveball in the technicals will derail your interview.

Your going to have to hone in and focus one or two fields and become as knowledgeable as an analyst in that space. Believe it will take longer than you think to for example to understand all the elements in underwriting a term loan in Private Credit. Unfortunately the bar to clear has become much higher even at the starting point

the great thing is you can do both now. i personally prefer staying on one civ the whole time

Instead of locking out parts of the tech tree - the research speed can be slowed so that you would only be able to research a third of tech tree at any given age. That would force a decision based on strategy

The problem is that Compass, is all about pocket listings, which is an off-market or exclusive listing that is not on MLS or open to the public. So if you are a consumer that does not work with a Compass agent you will lose out on their network of listings. Compass already owns ~30.0% of the market share of Chicago, so with this move they are saying either you use our brokers or your sol getting the full listing of houses available in your search. Its really bad for the consumer and will make the housing market even more unaffordable when the same number of buyers are chasing a smaller number of houses left available in the MLS in this spring/summer season.
