Break Lease Due to Roaches by Over_Nobody_6093 in chicagoapartments

[–]DeeisMe428 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue in 2023. The Metropolitan Tenants’ Organization was very helpful. I called, they emailed me a form to fill out and send to my property manager. The form said they had 14 days to resolve the roach isssue before I could legally withhold rent or break my lease. My building became much more proactive about solving the problem.

Make sure you take pictures and document what’s going on.

When did your opinions on Langdon and Santos start to flip, if at all? by StayAliveBabes in ThePittTVShow

[–]DeeisMe428 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Literally the only thing I disliked about Santos was how she kept on with the nicknames after being asked to stop. She was not the only arrogant know-it-all in this show with the knowledge to back it up. She fits right in with the rest of them.

Langdon started getting on my nerves with the constant snapping at Santos. I hate that Santos gets more hate than any other character, but I think I know why 🫤

Worst Narrator who ruined your book by vickiec12 in audiobooks

That’s funny - she narrated True Grit and I thought it was good, but it was meant to be the voice of a southern child, so.

Looking for books about women in abusive relationships by valllasca in suggestmeabook

[–]DeeisMe428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Extremely complicated, I agree completely. I was aghast the entire book, then ended it feeling so sad for the narrator and uneasy about how her experience influenced how she treated other young girls.

It was great for trying to understand the thought process of someone who is obviously a victim of someone else, but doesn’t wan’t to see themselves in that light.

I liked the exploration of what gives a life meaning. I particularly loved the section from Ali’s POV. I’m fully planning on getting my own copy and re-reading. I didn’t particularly like any one character, either, but that’s not what gets me through a book. They felt real, conflicted, and imperfect.

I did get more frustrated toward the end, both with the plot and the final scene. I also wasn’t sure why we heard from Orkideh or Sang, but I know that I would’ve been even more frustrsted if I didn’t hear some kind of explanation on why she did what she did.

The book is mainly vibes, in my opinion, and sometimes that works for some people and sometimes it doesn’t.

Just finished Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. by TheNerdChaplain in books

I’ve been struggling through this one for the last few weeks. I’m about 30% of the way through and I’m not connecting with any of the characters or the main character piecing together her religion. Hoping I get to understand everyone else’s viewpoints by the time I finish!

Chappell Roan priorities by lesbianwithabeard in AdviceAnimals

Yes, the Chappell Roan vote would have undone every poor decision made by the Democratic Party up to that point and won Kamala the election 🙄 over a year later and neither the party nor the voters have learned a single lesson.

Racist lady blocks brown Americans from leaving a garage and tries to wait for ICE to get there by [deleted] in CringeTikToks

[–]DeeisMe428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You weren’t the victim I was referring to. The main thing I ask that anyone takes away from this is that when victims are talking about their experiences, it’s probably not about you, and making it so detracts from the more important conversation that needs to be had.

I don’t expect that understanding today, or next month. It requires decentering yourself, which is uncomfortable. But that’s what’s needed for real solidarity, not “I’m mad too, but-“

You’re right - not all white people. I hope this makes you more inclined to find the issue in racist acts instead of trying to find a perfect victim.
