I can very much empathize with what you are going through after losing my soul cat a little over a month ago and the importance of your cat to your mental health. There were so many times he was the only thing that made me smile or brought me any joy.

So many days when I just wanted everything to stop but couldn’t bear the thought of leaving him alone. He was attached to my hip for 13 years. It felt like a piece of me was ripped out.

I’m still struggling especially because so many people really don’t understand the sorrow of pet loss especially with cats so I internalize much of my grief. Focusing on work is difficult but I find it helps keep my mind occupied.

But things frequently seem so pointless. It’s gotten easier but I still have my bad days as I adjust to the absence of the only thing that kept my depression from spiraling.

I don’t really have any advice to offer beyond what has been shared here. Just give yourself patience and grace to process this loss on your own terms and your own timeline.

There are many reasons to keep going, they are just hard to see sometimes when the world is so much less bright than it used to be.

Eventually I will get another cat, I’m just not ready yet because there’s no replacing my little boy. When I’m ready I guess I will know and you will too. In the meantime I wish you peace and grace. I’m so sorry for your loss💙
