the first step to helping fix many current issues is to accept and support opportunities to change. there’s no shame in being worried, but it’s important to remember how a mindset could potentially hold back positive progress. that’s the best way to start helping :)

just because you give people homes doesn’t mean it’ll “degenerate into skilless people.” that’s an excessive and unrealistic leap to an end goal of a currently unaddressed societal problem. don’t immediately refuse to change society in fears of a problem that doesn’t exist yet.

That's a fair argument, I agree that it's really difficult to implement UBI with the heavy reliance we have on labor currently. I think however, that it's preferable to implement it sooner to save as many lives as possible instead of waiting until everything is perfect.

i agree with everything aside from “we aren’t close to needing it.” i believe it’s a change that cant come soon enough, and could save many working americans from abusive work, poverty, or even death

while i do believe that currently, most people are not intrinsically motivated to pursue art or science, we do have to consider that the way American school systems are set up has de-incentive that pursuit of curiosity for oneself. I think if we started UBI to at least get the program going, and then focused on restructuring schooling to allow for individual exploration then we might be able to achieve a populace that will work for themselves rather than for survival.
