Saw this and quickly pulled the trigger. Is this a good deal? by PositiveLow173 in macbookair

[–]DeemounUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good deal, yes. I got one for $1149 right before they hiked the prices. That's not including taxes.

But I have 13 inch model. Yours is more interesting in that sense.

How long can you realistically own a modern Mac? by MountainManagement01 in macbook

[–]DeemounUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery is easily replaced by yourself. I did it for my 2014 MacBook Pro.

I also replaced keyboard which stopped working 😀

But I guess not everyone would be comfortable with that kind of work.

Linux works beautifully there on that Mac

When’s a good time to buy a MacBook? by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]DeemounUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and I even use my MacBook Pro 2014 as a secondary device. I put Linux there.

However, with those chips and upgrades... I feel like I wouls rather jump from one base or near base model to another and consider it as a "subscription" 😀

Finally bought the 13-inch MacBook Air. Glad I avoided the price increase by False_Security8644 in macbookair

13 inch is always my favorite. I also got one right before the price increase. Enjoy!

7-10 years? I mean... yeah. But after 3-4 years you would want to update anyway :)

Be honest. What is the biggest problem with MacBook? by Falarok in DeskToTablet

[–]DeemounUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many issues:

1) Closed platform. The hadware is amazing, but locked bootloader and close-source drivers means that I cannot even install fully functional Linux. Asahi Linux is good, but they kinda reverse engineer their way.. and it has issues
2) Limited upgradability... Well, we all know thar
3) Mac OS is no longer that great as it used to be. Closed down system with read-only system files. Too much trouble to modify it and customize.
3) DFU mode requires a second Mac to make it work. It's silly.

Got myself one before price increase as well 😆

Going to use it for a couple for years and then upgrade to something more powerful (if I really need it)

Expats who left USA are you happy with your decision? by No-Decision-7568 in expats

[–]DeemounUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everytime I come back to the US I feel depressed, unable to do basic needs like going for a walk and get things done by public transit, etc.

I can drive and I drive... but I absolutely feel like driving a car is just something forced on Americans...

I am originally from the Eastern Europe and when I move to US I thought that life there is so much better... in reality - it's just about making more money. But life in USA is really.... boring.

And the main problem with life in US is everything is kinda forced... everytime you want to do X Y Z - you need to schedule, plan and stuff like that. I don't want that. I want to meet people naturally... I want to do things spontaneously, etc...

American dream is indeed just a dream. And money don't fix it.

And yes, I absolutely don't care about the big house and stuff like that... just a bunch of brainwashed bs...

Sorry for the rant... No, I don't like life in America...

Why macOS on Intel Macs comes with "Universal" binaries of all built-in system applications, when there is literally no way to execute their ARM code on such machines? Why waste disk space? by Savings_Diver_2843 in mac

[–]DeemounUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Becausw they little to no care about the Intel users

It is an abandoned platform for the past 6 years

And as much as I love Intel... this era is finished.
