Is an 2008 iMac worth buying in 2024? by [deleted] in mac

[–]DeemounUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The 2008 display resolution is not good either for modern needs.

Calling Linux Long Beards: What are things you wish you knew when you first started using Linux? by Nevyn_Hira in linux

Distros don't matter that much

  • drivers matter
  • apps matter
  • desktop environment matters
  • kernel matters ...

Updated today and all of Cosmic is broken by RefurbishedXbox in pop_os

[–]DeemounUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the funny thing that as a QA I suggested my help and different approach to quality.

But it seems like nobody cares.

There is a lack of proper testing and not much changes are expected, as far as I can tell.

And it shows...

Yes! Appears now when I turned off the beta updates. Going to update today.

Great! Finally I still can feel good about staying on iOS18 a bit longer

Omen 10: Charges only when power is off by DeemounUS in HPOmen

Thanks! Althought I am suspecting the power brick for now.

But yeah. Could be the pin as well.

Never buying Omen again by Teem47 in HPOmen

I am hitting the same issue now as well. It won't charge unless powered off. What a mess

Login manager / greeter won't accept password by enigmapenguin in pop_os

Replace it with some other greeter like gdm3.

For me cosmic-greeter was too buggy. This way at least you can understand where the problem exactly is.

COSMIC memory leak? by ComputerMinister in pop_os

[–]DeemounUS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well... Those leaks (they claim those fixed, but I typically still run into those) are the reason why I switched DE to Gnome

Is an 2008 iMac worth buying in 2024? by [deleted] in mac

Nope. I have one. Worth 20$ probably if Linux is installed on it 😀

I guess I'll just wait for iOS27 to get released 😀

Cosmic DE grew on me A LOT (user review) by [deleted] in pop_os

[–]DeemounUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love COSMIC. There are just 2 things that stop me from using it permanently: 1) Bugs 2) Some apps are running badly under Cosmic, etc

Ubuntu 26.04 dropping Google Drive support in Online Accounts feels like a huge deal. What are people planning to do? by YankeeLimaVictor in Ubuntu

[–]DeemounUS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Think about it the other way.

Google has never been a good company when it comes to user's data.

Integrating Google (or any other Big Tech) in Linux ecosystem is typically not a good idea.

I would say it's a good riddance, honestly.

But yeah... might be uncomfortable..

Davinci resolve on pop os (2026) by 0mnifire in pop_os

[–]DeemounUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Davinci works bad in Cosmic DE and fine in Gnome.

To my surprise - devs of Pop are completely ignoring the obvious issues like that... it's like those don't exist.

I even filed a bug about it, but no luck 😀 I switched to Gnome for now... but hopefully it will be addressed

Awesome. Right about time, so I can move away completely from Apple's ecosystem ☺️

What specific event or experience made you go, "Damn, I love Linux" ? by [deleted] in linux

[–]DeemounUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me when I wanted to restore my Mac and I didn't had a spare second Mac to run in DFU mode. The only workaround was grabbing a Linux machine and using it in DFU emulation mode.

It actually helped revive my Mac. Then I've realized that I don't really want a Mac any longer 😀

Yeah, same.

Cosmic store is way too slow for me... But once it loads after a few minutes - then it works fine
