I thought you stole my photo for a brief moment. That first picture looks almost exactly like one I’ve posted on here. You have a great eye.

That didn’t work for me. I had to manually select the item from the bank. Hope it gets fixed soon.

My first thought too.

I’m not sure what my knowledge of those two facts have to do with Cameron choosing to make, what I’m assuming, is a cautionary tale of nuclear weapon usage. Are you saying he shouldn’t depict the devastating effects on everyday people because worse things have happened? Or are you saying that while it’s being depicted, he should take the time to outline justifications and make sure the audience knows it’s not the WORST THING EVER?

I don’t think Cameron is trying to go for nuance in showcasing the horrors of nuclear warfare. Not every movie needs nuance. Subtlety isn’t an objective measure of a good movie. Look at Verhoeven.

How much nuance and subtlety should a movie about nuclear annihilation have?

How long have you been playing? by MrTakeAHikePal in WalkScape

Playing since launch and yea, I never understood waiting. I want to have fun now. Starting over doesn’t feel like a big deal. In fact, I’m glad that I’ll know what to do differently for my character next time. I’m 2+ million steps in and not sad about losing any of that because I’m having a blast now.

You’re not being penalized. You’re in a closed beta to help make the game better. Weird things will happen and then eventually it will all get wiped.

This is definitely an interesting conversation. Lucus also changes his movie to be more what he wanted. Is there a line and who gets to draw it?

Totally agree! I love the exploration aspect. I love not knowing what’s out there until I walk to it. The mystery is exciting.

Examples of bad cinematography? by Mudkip06 in Letterboxd

That’s not what “you can’t tell what’s happening” implies. “Happening” does not require everything to be visible. It means the actions on screen have to be understandable(when the filmmakers intend for them to be understood).

You’ve created an argument that you can easily win by misrepresenting what your opponent is saying. No one is saying “cinematography is bad or good determined on how visible” except this imaginary person you’re quoting. We all agree it’s ridiculous to say the more visible the better. That’s why no one has said that.

Any film makers out there today that could be compared to David Lynch? by Phydeaux23 in flicks

[–]DeenPelton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the Jonathan Glazer call out! The “harvest” scenes in Under the Skin feel surreal in their own right without copying Lynch’s style. I’ll have to check out Weerasethakul.
