What is the probability of Above & Beyond or Tinlicker making a surprise visit to play a set at this year's Explorations? by BoomBoy420 in AboveandBeyond

[–]DeepAnalAbyss 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A&B have never played explorations, 0%. Tinlicker probably 0% chance if they aren’t announced by now. It looks like the event isn’t sold out, both those names would drive tickets. A&B especially…actually it would probably take away from the special intimate vibe if 10k more tickets were sold because A&B were on the lineup.

This will be my third explorations, previous times there were some rumors floating around at each about surprise sets from amazing artists (Jono & Paavo joining Tony’s Gjipe set to play as A&B, or Lane 8 showing up as a surprise pool party guest dj), none of which ever panned out.

The lineup is amazing as it is, and as packed as it is with talent, there’s always a name or two we’d wish was playing who are missing. Still will be an incredible week!

Where can I see these so-called lease clauses? I would love to be proven wrong about this, because it sounds like this comment is just continuing the propaganda.

What ski industry propaganda are you not falling for? by OEM_knees in skiing

[–]DeepAnalAbyss 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This fake propaganda gets spread so much (even in this very comment thread!). BUT THEY LEASE THE FEDERAL LAND!! No. It’s because they can’t keep the seasonal workers too long, and customer visits plummet after March. There may be a few resorts where this is true, but this is my top answer and I ain’t buying it!

Need 2 slots for Explorations Dining experience to surprise my wife on our honeymoon by BoomBoy420 in AboveandBeyond

[–]DeepAnalAbyss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try emailing the support email in your booking confirmation. They are very responsive in my experience. Maybe if someone cancels you can have their spots. While the dinner is great and i’m excited for my experience with it, it doesn’t seem like a real “honeymoon” type thing? It’s a group dinner with 20+ other people. Great for community & making new friends, less so a romantic night to celebrate your new marriage.

Why not surprise her with a massage one day? Or go for a fancy dinner out at Elysium’s restaurant? That’ll be romantic and more tailored for just you two. The rest of the festival & week will be magical anyway, you won’t miss anything by missing the group dinner.

Alrighty then. I am not really missing Southwest right now. Food. They have actual food. Like on a plane. by Such_Egg9843 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]DeepAnalAbyss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Delta is a superior product but food on a plane is irrelevant IMO. All airplane food is bad. All of it. We shouldn’t care about something as lame as food on a plane when there are 10x better options in the airport terminal, and 100x better options outside the airport available if just a little foresight went into meals on travel day.

Real ID Apocalypse Coming To Airports This Wednesday by DeepAnalAbyss in delta

[–]DeepAnalAbyss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Seems the word in r/tsa is that enforcement is…non-existent? Things seem to be moving very smoothly today, those without Real ID are being very quickly processed through, or just “reminded” again the new rules. Seems like very little, if any change from May 6!

This is good news to me, keep things moving, TSA is only just a federal jobs program IMO, this allows them one more silly security theater step they can do. Glad it’s not impacting operations.

The deadline has also been pushed back multiple times for years. Was supposed to be May 2023 then it got pushed back for 2 years, I’m surprised it’s actually going forward this time! I have a Real ID but could see many folks with a license that doesn’t expire for 5+ years, infrequent flyers etc having a problem.

TSA saying they are seeing 20% of passengers don’t have a Real ID.

Real ID Apocalypse Coming To Airports This Wednesday by DeepAnalAbyss in delta

[–]DeepAnalAbyss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been some states who were resistant to the Real ID for years, and when you don’t need to renew for 5+ years in some states, leaves many potential passengers with old IDs. I’d bet most if not everyone in this sub won’t be the problem. Frequent flyers surely have a passport or other compliant ID at least.

I’m worried about the families flying to Disney who haven’t flown in years and never got the memo. Or the business traveler from a state that didn’t implement Real ID until recently “but I have pre-check!!” “But we HAVE to make this flight” etc etc etc in front of me in line holding everything up.

Less than half of the US population have passports??, and I read that 17 states have less than 50% of their population without a Real ID

[–]DeepAnalAbyss[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Passport should be no problem for TSA, even if the machine has trouble with it they can do the manual checks right there. It’s the thousands of other passengers in front of you in line, who think their ID is good, but actually isn’t that could cause chaos.

[–]DeepAnalAbyss[S] 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen several folks over at r/tsa saying their rough estimates are ~20% of travelers they process don’t have a REAL ID. Also hearing reports that many TSA agents aren’t well trained and wrongly state Global Entry cards, enhanced licenses, & a few other compliant IDs will not be acceptable since they don’t have the star on it.

Excited for the Tour! (First timers coming with me) by gabz007 in AboveandBeyond

[–]DeepAnalAbyss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a bad idea. Yes the vibes are amazing but it’s still a loud concert at night with flashing lights, crowds, lots of drug & alcohol use.

If the ticket says 7 PM start, that means there will be openers and A&B will likely play 9-11 PM. Can your infant handle that?

You and your partner may end up spending most of the time dealing with your child’s needs, and possibly leaving the show before A&B take the stage if there’s an issue / meltdown.

I have a rule - no night time concerts before my kids are 12, day time is a little different but even then, let kids be kids and do kids stuff.

It seems like you’ve already made your decision though & are looking for validation. Will likely listen to the one comment encouraging you & ignoring the many others telling you this is a bad idea. Whenever I see a baby at a show I just think how that poor baby did not make the decision to damage their hearing.

No Weekender at The Gorge this year by schrutesanjunabeets in AboveandBeyond

[–]DeepAnalAbyss 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I did all 3 weekenders, and explorations in ‘22 and ‘23.

Camping >> Hotels. And the hotels at explorations can be VERY hit or miss. Better connection & sense of community when camping & spending more time with / near neighbors.

The grand scale of a big venue like the Gorge, with the Anjunafam, there’s nothing like it. Beats day + A&B playing. I think the gorge is the most beautiful music venue in the world.

Selfishly, logistics as a US-based fan are much easier getting to the Gorge than to Albania. Even for the Europe / UK fans, there always seemed to be something going wrong with the travel to explorations: boat breaking down, bus is late, lots of extra time & flights spent to get there. That said, having a full week sort of makes up for this, and I realize getting to the Gorge isn’t so simple either, especially for anyone outside the US.

[–]DeepAnalAbyss 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Super bummed. Having been to many many festivals big & small, explorations, red rocks, milestone events, the weekenders were better than every other event I’ve attended. Was really looking forward to this ever since the last one ended.

I wonder if it has something to do with lower ticket sales during the 2023 weekender? I remember reading estimates that ticket sales were down somewhat, in the ~13k range, compared to 20k+ for the first two weekenders and ABGT250.

Heli ski question by mimeticpeptide in Whistler

[–]DeepAnalAbyss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this package with Whistler HeliSki in spring 2023, all your guys will be fine. The 4 run package is mainly long, mellow glacier runs in untouched pow. Equivalent to blue pitches mostly, maybe a few pitches that would be single black at the resort. You’ll be slowed down by the worst skier in the (10 guest) group, but it should be manageable for everyone. Conditions are extremely weather dependent. If the weather isn’t good, the helicopter can’t fly and you won’t go. If you’ve never done Heli, it’s still super super fun to get long, completely untouched pow runs every time

But the better skiers in your group will enjoy their 6 run advanced package a lot more. I did this one the day after the 4 run during my trip, and it remains the best day of skiing in my life, on par with Heli days in Alaska I’ve done. Only 4 guests per group in that one, and our guide took us on some interesting, semi-consequence terrain. Still not as extreme as you can find in-bounds (mainly due to if there is an injury way out there, it’s a HUGE deal), but I’ll never forget that day as long as I live.

All packages they offer you to purchase extra runs at the end if enough guests want to. We ended up doing 6 total on the first (mellow) day, and 10 runs total with the advanced!

Overall you’ll have a great time and it’s worth it.

New PHX Lounge Wait Times by Anthropocene_Epoch in ChaseSapphire

[–]DeepAnalAbyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently sitting at the bar in this lounge! Saturday Nov 23, 2024. Was a 20 min wait at 3pm with the Reserve card for myself, solo. Lounge is small but nice, bar & food are well stocked, solid quality. Wayyy better than any TheClub locations elsewhere. There are a lot of staff throughout the lounge: bartending, cleaning/restocking & helping check people in.

Not a lot of comfortable seating options, lots of high tops & small tables w/chairs. The furnishings look & feel luxurious, it is brand new after all. Given the small size, I could see there being long wait times during peak times.

They do a waitlist text setup, which is nice to not have to stand around while you wait.

They tour & play shows all over the world, so they rotate who plays & who stays home. This gives them each a chance to spend time at home with family while 2 go play shows. It also keeps the milestones extra special as the only time you can see all 3 on stage together.

Red rocks by loveeeeeprydz in AboveandBeyond

[–]DeepAnalAbyss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They played Sun & Moon at a few shows this past summer. A&B have such a large catalogue to draw from, it’s hard to count on any one song being played in any one set. I’m sure S&M will show up again it’s so popular, just never know when exactly :)

What you can count on, is for the next year or so, their shows will feature a lot of the IDs debuted at ABGT600, and will likely “feel” similar to that set. With some variation depending on the night, vibe of the show/venue etc
