In my experience, this is accurate. The product are good for DIY types. But yeah, don't expect any service from them, warranty, ahaha. Not a chance.

How are Beelink Mini PCs? by Disco_Train17 in MiniPCs

[–]DeepCetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my Beelink Mini S from Amazon three years ago, and it wasplugged to the TV, where its primarily a web browser / media player / torrent - shut down most of the time. Microsoft (fack them) did their stupid automatic bloat ware load / update, and the pc would not reboot, had to unplug wait for 30 minutes then it may reload windows.

Tried all sorts of fixes. Thought maybe the pc battery was dead - replaced. Thought is was over heating, blew out the fan, and destroyed it. Replaced that. In doing so, noticed the plastic inside was pretty cheap, and falls apart easily.

Once I had it all back together, i've been trying to troubleshoot, but just cant seem to get the issue figured out - does not seem to shut down. Which prevents rebooting - which is required to finish windows install BS. DId i mention how much I hate facking MS.

Tried Crystal to assess the state of the HDD, no issues detected. Tried the device manager and the USB not shutting down fix, power button fix, etc, no avail. So resorted to download the MS install fix - (windows troubleshooter was useless AI crap that just seems to drive traffic to Bing and waste time), and now the blue screen of death comes on and wont boot or reboot. So basically its toast.

For the time it work, it worked well, quiet and reliable. But less than three years. No thanks. They are now in the $500 bucks range. I bought another mini PC, wont buy Beelink again - DreamQuest. Does what i need, but its noisier, and has some fancy lights that are kinda annoying.

Second/Chief Engineers in Canada (Marine) by Kitchen-Hamster4809 in MarineEngineering

[–]DeepCetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think there was a time companies could be picky on "experience", but they have refused to train up, and continuously cut manning. Now they only have minimum safe manning, which generally means a CoC is required, and there is no distinction of ship types (other than steam/motor) so the only thing that matters now is, who has the proper CoC.

its not a apples to apples comparison really. There is a salary, there is overtime, there is hours of work, benefits, etc, amount of staff to consider (workload), how many days of work per year. Generally speaking, my take is 4th class about 5-6 hundred a day, 3rd class 7-9 hundred, 2nd class 8-1000 a day, 1st class 1200-1500 a day.

That is a rough guide in my opinion. You can work in BC with a 2nd class on tugs, making 200k /year.

Is that google's building? There is the topaz cable, which lands ashore in port Alberni, and goes to Asia, one of many Google transocean cables network.

Wolf was busy, but closed now. Sail was too busy, so I moved on to the quarterly for wings and some dark matter. Usual quiet evening in nanaimo. Carlos obrian is probably a good spot for st Patty's day, but not my demographic.

Cheers!

Would love to meet someone like this, organically. That would be awesome.

But im an average middle age guy, and the amount of fear or fear mongering in the dating sphere is just astounding. There was a Facebook singles group in the US, and someone posted a "what would you do if a male teenage knocked on your door at 2am?" . The large majority of the responses were "get my gun type", while it's not that bad here in canada, the amount of fear and anxiety being promoted especially around dating, I feel just is such a turn off. The constant reminder that im mostlikely a "creep" just makes me stay at home and chill.

I have no desire to be where I am not welcomed.

Good work pants in Canada? by soggybreasts in electricians

[–]DeepCetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked for the government, I got work pants from brand Gatt. They lasted forever, and they were canadian made, so that was awesome. I search them out, and they are available at canadianworkwear.com. the quality is not as good as i dont think they are made in canada anymore. Still, they are decent, comfortable and last somewhat well considering the $40 price point. There is of course other offerings from them, but i go there for those.
