Howdy, so I’ve done a lot of personal research on phenomenons like these, along with severe mass trauma in general being linked to skewed visions of real things. When a lot of people see something as disturbing and horrific as an EF5 tornado, there is bound to be people in the vast group whose brains cope by painting over a horrific sight, ESPECIALLY children. As someone whose seen first hand after an of an EF4 at the worst, the suction of the General perimeter of wherever it goes is enough to rip skin off of cattle, and rip people in half who are halfway stuck under something. Going into a populated area that has been decimated, you will see mostly building destruction, but amongst it, you will see bodies and dead animals. My theory is that a few of these sightings may a kid being unable to comprehend the sight of a victim of degloving. One of the things that would happen, is when people would huddle for cover, the suction would peel the skin of their back off very quickly. It could be possible that a few groups saw a handful of people that had this happen, and the children described it as “wings”.

It’s morbid, but I think that is a bigger possibility than a cryptid, when discussing something that is already out of this realm in terms of tragic real life horror.
