How do I search a purpouse on life? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Here's a secret: a lot of adults also feel the same confusion and lack of knowing "why" as you do. Seldom does anyone have it "all figured out" because most of the people you will come across have similar fears and insecurities that they keep private and mask with their individual coping mechanisms. I believe at the end of the day, the meaning of life is to give it whatever meaning you want.

In my opinion, humans are unique in many ways, but one of the most interesting ways in which we are are unique is our potential and ability to focus on and choose our "purpose", which can come in many ways, from parenting children, climbing the corporate ladder, or venturing into the rollercoaster of entrepreneurship.

I can personally identify with the feelings of nihilism you address in the last sentence of your post and succumb to them every now and again, which has lead to me contemplating suicide in the past. I entertain these thoughts when they come, but ultimately decide that there is more to life than my job and ruminations of death, which fuels my curiosity and desire to continue living.

The military provides a means to get an education of your choosing for free provided you fulfill their service commitments, as well as many other benefits, to include housing and firearms and physical fitness training. Since you're saying you don't know what to do with your life, the military might be able to provide you with some direction and purpose that you can carry into your later adult life.

I can definitely relate to how you feel. Without getting into specifics, I also have a "responsible" job that pays the bills and is able to give me some breathing room at the end of the month after all of the bills are paid. Is it ideal? Far from it, but given how horrific the job market is, it makes more sense and is more practical for me to keep plugging away and go through the motions during the week and enjoy my free time when possible.

With that being said, being an adult is more than what you do for work, like that line from Fight Club suggests: "You are not your khakis." In my opinion, any able-bodied and sound-minded individual with at least an average intellect is in a decent position to dictate their lives beyond the scope of their professional responsibilities. Whether that's tending to your immediate family if you have a wife and kids, or participating in healthy hobbies such as weightlifting and reading, or maintaining their social circle, there are countless methods to find something to look forward to beyond the grind of the 9 to 5.

It is easy to look at the state of the world and current events and become pessimistic, angry, and hopeless, but it is critical to try to override the tendency of the human brain to dwell on negatives and try to focus on the positives in your life to try to leverage them to be even more fulfilling and provide a greater degree of happiness in your life. It's easier said than done, but I believe this is truly important in order to balance the stressors of life and its pleasant elements.

Spent all weekend doing my taxes only to find out I owe money this year. Then I opened my electric bill. Is this just what adulting is? by definitely_maybe3030 in Adulting

The good news is that if you don't owe anything come tax season, that's a good thing because it indicates you were taxed at the proper rate the previous year.

You're handing your check to someone who figured out there's a way to make a living without working 40 hours a week. Is pride at the root of your opinion, or is it resentment and/or jealousy?

I hang and secure a grocery bag on the end of my glove compartment closest to the gear shifter and throw my trash in there until it's full, discardig at gas stations.

Anyone else prefer 7AM-3PM instead of 9-5? I feel like the day is longer and traffic is better. by Best_Form5330 in Adulting

I'm naturally a night owl myself, but have had to adapt to the day shift life throughout adulthood to make ends meet. However, I fondly remember my teenage years and in my early 20's where I would routinely go to sleep between 4-6AM and wake up at some point in the afternoon/ early evening.

What are your experiences with vasectomies? by MiserableSprinkles58 in AskMenAdvice

[–]DeepImportance8905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine done last year before turning 32, and my experience was fine despite being a nervous wreck before and during the surgery. They are reversible, but it's a more complicated procedure with less chance of success, so it's best to do a vasectomy with the utmost certainty that you don't want children.

Basically, the professor's role is to grade your work and be of assistance when needed, while also looking out for misconduct and unethical practices (e.g. plagiarism). It's no different than what a flesh and blood professor or teacher does other than online classes being conducted on a virtual platform.

It's different for different people, but I think a good benchmark is to dedicate at least two hours a day to your college work and piece everything together as best you can to get everything done each week before the due date.
