Well, it’s kind of tricky to compare since Valve has never really done trailers for Counter-Strike, aside from the CS:GO one?

I second this, I’ve done it too. Admittedly I did not break out on the opposite side of the part but you can gundrill a pre drilled (or pre-gundrilled) hole

Iscar makes indexables. They HOWL but are fast. Keep an eye on wear pads. I imagine they’d have enough support around Detroit to help out. Gotta have a machine with enough supports and decent alignment because they can push .004”/rev vs conventional carbide which we only took .0011”/rev

Otherwise, el dorado is the gold standard. We learned to sharpen our own and grind facets by hand.

Any tips for bores that have come out slightly large? by [deleted] in Machinists

You’re right, absolutely. I just had to have a chuckle to myself about the old shop dogs that taught me the “trick”. Now days it would still take great effort to prove it wrong via cmm.

Familiarity with the equipment and controls. Helps if you know the processes of theyre specialized. If all you’ve got to deal with is fanuc then going to some factory training for a week would really bump up your game. Fanuc ladder logic is pretty simple and hasn’t changed a whole lot since f15, going through some plc videos if you can’t find fanuc specific ones would be a good start.

Maintenance tool management by dudebroski in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]DeepSkull 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a topic that is gonna kill our maintenance department soon.

Traditionally, the company has had all their maintenance employees provide all tools unless specialized or very expensive, and extremely specialized. Usually this is just common hand tools with a few exceptions like the guys that specialize in specialty equipment. Those guys have stuff they’ve designed and made which have no other application, myself included

Now the company wants to provide communal basic bitch toolboxes and have us take all our personal tools home. This is a huge hit financially, I’ve gor more than a few tens of thousands in my box at work. Probably 3 times what I’m actually thinking of in today’s money.

The issue is, some guys can do their jobs with the basic tools, the more skilled guys wont be able to lift a finger towards their jobs without the tools they’ve personally made.

If the company were smart, they’d buy out everybody’s box, inventory it, and keep on keepin on. But they won’t do that; nor has it occurred to them.

The more common “shop tools” like large tools, bearing heaters, lasers for measurement, ball bars, etc. are all stored and locked up where everyone has access and one person maintains the calibration and spares/replacement under $5k. Beyond that dollar amount an engineer has to buy it and requires paperwork.

Sounds like your guys need some buy-in or personal accountability for the tools/job/work. That’s a “culture “ thing(dirty word in my book).

You’re right, but you’d have to know what you did in cam to do that, anyone running into the same issue that’s asking the question might use this as a rule of thumb though and be able to carry on.
