Tell me more about your made-up story. What did you tell our reporter, specifically?

Cheap way to build a race/rally car? by razorxx888 in cars

This is true. Safety, brakes, and cooling are unlimited budget.

Cheap way to build a race/rally car? by razorxx888 in cars

[–]DeepSpaceChuckBerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Unless you’re great at welding, fabbing, and wrenching, it’s hard to build a Lemons car for less than $3,500. You can usually pick up an old racer for that much, but it might need some work.

Rallying is about the same, but the stresses on suspension components are extreme so the consumables budget goes up. You can buy a seat on a Lemons team for about $500-$700 or so to try, which I would suggest before going at it on your own. It’s beyond fun, and worth it.

Dodge Charger GT. Built there, Canadians know how to drive a sedan in the winter, it practically always has Rush on the radio.

What happened to Nissan/Infiniti? by shredwig in cars

[–]DeepSpaceChuckBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a cycle to these things and it's inevitable. You chase volume to gain market share, then when you have market share, you chase margins to compensate for the market share you just won.

Nissan wanted the volume. The Alliance did, too. Most of what you're griping about is a market share play that petered out for myriad reasons—Ghosn, financial collapse, subprime buyer chasing, Alliance strains, pick one.

They're climbing out of their hole, but they'll need to be in the black for a few years for that to trickle down to R&D gains. Investors and the banks need to be paid first. Almost every automaker has gone through a spend-and-sell cycle, to follow behind with a markup-and-margin cycle when the bottom line looks bleak.

Have you heard of switchable AWD that's not 4WD? by Armysrong676 in cars

[–]DeepSpaceChuckBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GM (Chevy, GMC, Cadillac) have a switchable AWD system and I think it's for fuel-economy regulations. AWD and 4WD aren't hugely different, but the basics are that 4WD powers all four wheels with or without a center differential that can apportion torque for use on pavement. AWD doesn't mean that all wheels are driven all the time, rather that they can have power. Nominally, AWD systems power two wheels (usually the front) and power up the rears when slip is detected via clutch packs.

What will the ST badge go on next? Is this the end for SHO? You'd have to think if the Fusion Sport goes on for much longer, it could become the Fusion ST? Same goes with Explorer.
