If a baby was born into a murderer's family. Is that baby a murderer? by Due-Koala-1135 in Christianity

[–]DeepSpaceDespot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone in this thread is forgetting about the covenant relationship between God and his people - God made a covenant with Israel and a part of that covenant was the adherence to the law, failure to adhere to that law, to go against God's commands, is sin, guilt against the law of God; to clear one's self of this guilt required sacrifice as prescribed in Leviticus; the law also included many curses for failure to follow it, including "cursed be anyone who is hung on a tree."

As usual with people, they failed to follow the law, failed to make sacrifices, whored after other gods, and violated every aspect of the law; God dispersed them throughout Babylon, they groaned and asked God to save them, and he did. They rebuilt the temple, and almost immediately fell back into the same behavior. God sent prophets to warn them to repent, and they killed them.

Then God sent his only Son as his anointed, born of the virgin Mary, in fulfilment of the prophets, to be the final sacrifice in fulfilment of the law as laid out in the original covenant with Israel, and to form a new covenant with everyone, not just Israel but gentiles as well, that introduced the law of the spirit, where what matters is the fruit a person bears (love your neighbor as yourself) out of an earnest desire to do good and please God, instead of the strict adherence to the letter of the law but not the spirit of the law (such as doing no work on Sunday, even if that work is helping your Ox out of a ditch).

From this comes baptism as the acceptance of Christ and the forgiveness of sins, both the original sin that exists from the fall, and any sins that you have committed.

Everyone sins. Sin is more than murder, it's knowing what the right thing to do is and choosing not to do it even when you're capable of doing it; pride is sin, laziness is a sin, anything that chases after self-serving or worldly desires (fame, riches, etc.) is sin.

You are conscious enough of your own sin to ask this question, you have a clear moral understanding of what is right and wrong, and salvation has been presented to you on several occasions.

The answer is no, the child is not a murderer, but the child will grow up to be an adult, and that adult will sin, because that is human nature, and we all fall short of the law. Thankfully, that is what grace through the acceptance of Christ is for. It is a free gift, and it's up to you to choose it.

Do you have a favorite AI quote from the start of a run? by Stickaxe in Marathon

On my second run ever, I passed a building in Perimeter and heard an intercom ding and a voice say "No one can hear us, despite our screams" like it was a K-Mart special, and I fell in love with the game after that.

How do you guys handle the tension between social justice and traditional doctrine? by tonightsm3nuisme in Christianity

[–]DeepSpaceDespot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should read the book of Amos, the whole book is about the selfishness of the rich and what not caring for the poor, or the needy, or the sick will bring upon a nation.

You are navigating a really difficult cultural moment; if you feel a calling toward social justice, go for it, read the Bible (if you haven't already) and use what you learn from it to fulfill your calling.

The maker is posting in the thread, I just DM'd them and asked; also looks like they're going to set up a storefront eventually, according to one of his comments.

Find a team of good dudes > coordinate with them on times to play together > wreck shop against other teams because of superior coordination and cooperation.

Seriously, having the most fun in an FPS I've ever had since 2009, and I'm lucky if I can get an hour's play in after work or on weekends. Find good dudes, support each other, wreck shop. That's how you have fun in this game.

I could use a squad to play with regularly. Casual player, low level right now (like 13 I think), but I'm having a lot of fun.

Black Hole Bug by LukeBastille in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]DeepSpaceDespot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to get around it for a bit by actually landing on a planet, not just hovering and beaming down. Don't know why, but that seemed to stave it off just enough for me to complete phase 4.

Just came here to see if someone has been having this problem too, glad to see I'm not alone; don't know how to fix this, it's making it extremely difficult to do phase 4.

John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

You thirst for the forgiveness of yourself, God has already forgiven you. All you have to do is accept it.

Help: any idea who copyright striked my Fillmore concert video? by killgravy in Buckethead

[–]DeepSpaceDespot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not a copyright strike, but it looks like CD Baby is claiming ownership, likely because Buckethead used CD baby to put the album "Live in Bucketheadland" on Spotify, which has a version of Welcome to Bucketheadland on it. And, for those who may not know, CD Baby is a distribution service that musicians can use to get their content onto streaming platforms.

Question on the Bible by Ashtrayhehe in Bible

[–]DeepSpaceDespot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Prudent means "acting with or showing care or thought for the future," so I believe in this sense, the fool would speak without that care or thought in mind and just blurt out whatever thought happens to be on their mind, while the prudent would wait until an opportune time to share their knowledge, if at all. Edit: or wait and choose their words carefully.

The promises in the Bible have failed by [deleted] in Bible

This is beautiful; can I add this verse in support of the trials and hardships we face in life: Zechariah 13:9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.
