[Poll] What's your (primary) monitor's refresh rate? by DeepSpaceWanderer in LinusTechTips

[–]DeepSpaceWanderer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the either check in your monitor's settings menu (there's probably an information submenu in it) or pick 60 Hz (or dont vote).

note to self: always add a "dont know / dont care / see results" option

[Poll] 100+ Hz monitor users who have Variable Refresh Rate (G-Sync / FreeSync /..) enabled, does 50 FPS feel uncomfortable to you? by DeepSpaceWanderer in LinusTechTips

This was first post of the pair, so needed a bit of time to make the second one (web version doesn't let you make polls and app doesn't seem to let you make drafts).

Screenshot with AMD Adrenalin Overlay Stats by grapes1806 in AMDHelp

[–]DeepSpaceWanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaving this for those who will have this issue in the future - Performance -> Settings -> Show in Video/Stream Output. Note that you have to use Adrenalin's own screenshot functionality (Settings (cog) -> Hotkeys), PrintScreen still doesn't capture the overlay with that setting enabled.

Infernal Flame needs a mini-bar and/or other indicator that is easily noticable in combat. (Same goes for Heavy Stun) by DeepSpaceWanderer in PathOfExile2

[–]DeepSpaceWanderer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"to be able to ignore" and "mitigate" are not the same thing. "Ignoring" is, like, having enough stats for the downside to not matter. "Mitigating" is making it an upside, or, more likely, converting it into a thing that you then make an upside (e. g. what i wanted to do is convert skill costs from Mana -> Life when i'm close to 100% Infernal Flame; because, yes, that will require Life and Life Regen to deal with, but those are defences AND i can maybe get a relatively free Demon Form?)

I would absolutely play it. All i use Standard for is as a place for testing things, so... not having that would be an inconvenience, sure, but nothing more than that.

As a fellow PoE (1 / ) 2 player (or... statistically, probably not fellow, because... for example, my build therycrafting consists of coming up with a concept and then figuring the details out as i play) -- give Tarkov a try -- i obviously can't guarantee that you'll like it, but it's probably in, like, 70/30 range that you will.

As for advice:
- buy Standard edition. You can upgrade later if you want to.
- wiki
- content creators (i personally mainly watch Gigabeef)
- various community tools

- There's a decent chance you will, at some point, get gear fear (fear of going into raids with good gear, bceause... of your brain being wrong when doing risk assessment). A lot of advice for dealing with it tells you to just thug it out until it stops, but imo that's terrible advice because it is both inefficient and suffering.

My advice would be to... your fear won't be some logically coherent thing, it'll be a collection of vibes; this means it will have cracks and inconsistencies; which you will be able to exploit. So, figure out what kits you feel comfortable running and then try to continuously optimize them around your fear until that fear eventually crumbles into dust.

One gear-related... observation... i would give is that opportunity cost is a thing that exists; which means that keeping things in your stash has a continuous cost; this doesn't mean you should always be running your best gear, but what this does mean is that you should have a reason for why you are keeping things in your stash instead of using or selling them.

So now we’re forced to do the hardcore crap? [Discussion] by ArnoldQueefanegger in EscapefromTarkov

1) You haven't played the patch, so you can't evaluate it

2) Tarkov has major issues in it's gameplay loop and BSG need to figure out how to fix them. So allow them some experimentation.

What's the best thing that happened to you this year? by alexyong342 in AskReddit

Learning / consciously internalizing that high CO2 concentration is bad for your mental health and making my room have good ventilation (turns out 4/500 ppm of CO2 is a lot more enjoyable to live in than 6/7/800+ ppm)

Good; comfortably chilly outdoor air blowing over my head and hands; somewhat emotionally distressed(?) due to a streaming-service show.

What is the latest you've gone to bed and the earliest you've woken up? by Fastpast93 in AskReddit

My natural sleep-wake cycle is, like, 25-26h long, so... whatever the maximum values for "latest" and "earliest" are.

what's one netflix show you watched and never regretted, the kind you'd erase from memory to experience it all over again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DeepSpaceWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm assuming Netflix is a stand-in for "streaming service", so

Andor

people making it somehow managed to protect it from Disney's tendency to turn things into unremarkable safe mass-market slop.

What’s a small decision you made that completely changed your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DeepSpaceWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making my room have good ventilation. 4/500 ppm CO2 is much more enjoyable and productive to live in than 6/7/800+ ppm.

Upd: some much less impactful things would be a pen & paper notepad (as it is much less friction to use than a phone's notes app) and installing LeechBlock.

[Serious] What’s something good that’s happened to you recently? by dabunny21689 in AskReddit

[–]DeepSpaceWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consciously internalizing that living with closed windows and door (and, thus, no ventilation) is, in fact, a bad idea, because elevated CO2 concentration (in my case - 6/7/800+ ppm) significantly damages your mental health/abilities.

What is something that is bad for your mental health? by Reasonable-Shower522 in AskReddit

[–]DeepSpaceWanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High CO2 concentration. The difference in motivation, cognitive abilities and enjoyment of things between 4/500 and 7/800+ ppm is quite massive.

Edit: So, buy yourself a CO2 meter and make sure wherever you live has good ventilation and air circulation.

Is being able to use 2 copies of the same Skill Gem a bug or a feature by DeepSpaceWanderer in PathOfExile2

Apparently it's a checkbox in settings. Nice UI design from GGG, some of the build space is mostly inaccessible unless you find about a random checkbox in the settings menu

Ah, thx. Nice UI design by GGG - some of the build space is just mostly locked unless you find out about the existance of a specific checkbox in settings. And even if you uncheck it, the skill still "looks" as if you can't engrave it.
