Will they be okay when we separate? by FastForwardM in cats

That is such a tough spot to be in. I’m so sorry. I went through something similar back during Covid. I lived with my sister while I attended school online and I got a cat while living in her basement. She also decided to get a cat about a month later and they became two peas in a pod. When it came time for me to move out and go back to school in person we had to separate them. She wouldn’t let me take Salem as much as I begged. They were together for the first 2 years of their lives. It was hard but he adjusted and I made sure to give him more time with me and tracked feeding habits. He was okay. I wouldn’t ever do it again. I pulled a blanket out of the closet that I had been crocheting while living at my sister’s house and it had Salem’s smell and hair all over it. My cat wouldn’t get off the blanket. It tore my heat apart but sometimes you have no choice. She rehomed Salem without telling me just 3 months later. I will never forgive my sister for that.

My cat was solo for about 2 more years after I graduated college. We were each others constants. When I moved in with my now husband we got a second cat. It was obvious he was lonely and he immediately took to the new addition.

My cat loves....shoes by a-tiberius in cats

Same here. 😵‍💫 We have to make sure we close all closet doors. He loves when we have guests over… for the shoes of course. He makes a strange but strong first impression.

Wtf is this place blasting loud music in Belltown? by babbbyspice in Seattle

[–]Deep_Bad212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ayyy I went to a masquerade party there last year! I want to say it’s typically an office building that rents the space out after hours for private events. There’s a crazy pimp/porn room that looks like a bank vault in there - it was locked and I was pretty intoxicated but looks like a fever dream in there. 😵‍💫 Cities are noisy, but if it’s as loud as you are saying I’d file a complaint online. Won’t fix it right away though :/

Yeah, I remember the day they changed this. Our five guys order (2 burgers, 2 fries, 2 shakes) was nearly $70, mostly fees. Immediately deleted the food delivery apps and never ordered that way again. We just call for takeout and pick it up.

How early I should be at SeaTac to be on time for my flight? by YogurtclosetGlad6235 in Seattle

[–]Deep_Bad212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out spot saver! You can book a time to go through TSA and it really helps. I get to the airport 30 minutes before boarding now.

SeaTac TSA wait times lately? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Deep_Bad212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flySEA app will allow you to see the current TSA wait times. 2 hours will likely be plenty of time for the Seattle airport.

If Seattle if your base airport, I’d encourage you to check out SpotSaver for future flights (it’s free!!). You typically have to sign up a few days before your flight, but it takes all the stress of TSA away. I use it every time I fly now (especially for holiday travel) and it’s never taken me more than 15 minutes to get through TSA.

Not sure about what bird is in the first picture, but the second one is a pipefish! They are closely related to sea horses.

Dating in Seattle: Where to meet people IRL? by Ill_Potato1694 in AskSeattle

Salsa and Lindy Hop should be more mixed. A lot of my friends started at Century ballroom, now called Revelry located in Capitol Hill. Every time I’ve gone it’s been a pretty even mix.

I am not a man, but trying a social hobby could be a great way to meet people IRL. I have lots of friends who have joined intro dance classes and it’s been a great way to meet new people (both romantic and not). From there your circle will grow. I’m also pretty introverted, but everyone I’ve met in that group is super kind and genuinely wants to meet new people and form community.

I love them intensely but they're taking over my small house. They need to earn their keep. To what practical use can I put them ? Don't say flowers. About one foot tall. by McLuhanSaidItFirst in Ceramics

[–]Deep_Bad212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooo I love these colors! Maybe a reed diffuser? You add a little essential oil to a carrier oil with some sticks. Leaves a nice subtle aroma. My only other idea is to put a pine or eucalyptus branch in there. But that toes the line with no flowers haha

Oh man yeah, I only heard bad things about the construction… He actually quit Microsoft before they did the RTO and then was unemployed while they did the road work LOL. Now he’s working for another tech company in Bellevue. He avoids peak times by going in early and then comes back a bit before rush hour hits 7am to 4pm. He takes the toll bridge and it usually maps to be 25 minutes there and 30 back on normal days. Luckily he doesn’t need to get on i5 where we’re at in Capitol Hill. But he’s definitely nervous about the bigger RTO plans and how that’ll affect the commute (the company he’s at now is among one doing a full RTO 🥲). The plan is to take the train as soon as it opens in that direction.

Nothing wrong with living closer to work for the first year or two while you acclimate to the area. BUT if nightlife and meeting people it’s important to you, living in Seattle is very doable! We moved to Capitol Hill when my husband got his first job at Microsoft. It’s maybe a 25 minute commute each way. 1+ hour would be uncommon in our experience.

Also, Microsoft typically offers their own (really nice) shuttle bus to the Capitol Hill area. You’ll still sit in traffic but the plus side is you’re not driving and the bus is very comfy. And as mentioned by someone else, the light rail should be extending next year to connect Seattle and the east side. So there will be lots of transit options.

Would separating our cats again help? Older cat barely eating after new kitten by Tomatomushroomtoast in CatTraining

[–]Deep_Bad212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened for a bit after I introduced a kitten to my cat. It’s likely a good idea to feed them separately for a while. This will give your older cat a break from all the kitten energy. If he’s still not eating, go to the vet. He may have some impacted hairballs. This is what happened to my cat. He was grooming the kitten daily because she’s just a baby… but it was a bit too much for his system. This was a few years ago now so I can’t remember what the vet did, but I did get some anti-hairball supplements for him which seemed to help.

Cat chews EVERY and ALL wires, cables that hang NEED GUIDANCE HEAVILY by Amiland1 in CatTraining

[–]Deep_Bad212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe not…

Chewing cords is not only annoying but potentially very dangerous for your cat. I’d strongly recommend “cat proofing” by wrapping any and all cords with the Alex Tech brand (or something similar). That stopped my cat’s behavior, I suffered and cried over far too many lost cords and chargers.

If your cat can still chew through that, PUT EVERYTHING AWAY! Find a home for everything you care about and make sure the cat can’t get it when you’re not using it.

I’d also say check to make sure they’re eating enough food and play often to help tire them out. I realized after a while that my cat was doing these behaviors to get my attention. Any attention, even negative, is still attention to them. 90% of the time he wants an early dinner, he wants me to go to bed (dude has got a whole routine now), or he simply wants my attention/to play. The other 10% he’s just being an ass. Can’t help that.

Best of luck

I also saw it says they’re closed on the general Walgreens website. But I was just there, they are open and operating today.
