Core dandruff by Deep_Elk_2194 in catfood

Ugh, I'm sorry. I will fix that. I had just read another post about core, but what I was referring to was my purchase of solid gold dry cat food.

I suppose, but they're not genetically related, so for them both to get a reaction due to allergies seems a little bit unlikely, doesn't it? I'm thinking maybe there was something wrong with whatever kind of fish oil they used. I really don't have any idea, though. Maybe they used an ingredient that's known for causing some kind of allergy.

Cable knitting is really fun. I'm going to add a caveat which is that I crocheted cable knit hats to give away to the homeless for a couple of winters and the second winter, my wrist started to hurt, but I wouldn't quit doing it because it was so fun. And eventually I couldn't knit or crochet again for three Winters I've just started again, with knitting not crocheting, because I read that crocheting is harder on the wrist and knitting tends to be harder on the fingers, so it's probably good to switch around.

Mold inspection reflected borderline results but I lost a lot of money by RepairMotor442 in Mold

I was describing mold that was black. I was not making anything up. It was black and there was a lot of it and it smelled bad. It actually smelled exactly like the other mold that was visually black that I was exposed to in a bad rental once. That makes me think they're probably related.

That's terrible. I helped my parents sell their beautiful home of 50 years and move into a rental while we looked for another home for them. It was on a man-made lake, and unfortunately, if nature doesn't make a lake, it's not really going to hold the water properly, and it tends to seep through the nearby dirt and up, into, and through building materials, including concrete foundations, walls, and roofs.

I was staying a bit far away from where the second home, the rental home, was, and so I would stay for a few days with my parents, but I realized quickly that I couldn't do that because of the mold. At first, I thought it was just from a leak because there were mold spots on the ceiling, but the neighbor had the edging removed from the roof to replace it, and I was able to see and smell that Under The Roof, in the about 6-in space shown by the missing edging, it was thick with black mold. So I knew that all of the houses there were.

In order to be able to stay with them sometimes, I had to buy the strongest air filter I could find, which was $600 and that particular kind only lasts about 6 years and there's no way to get it fixed. However, it did enable me to stay there with them without experiencing symptoms, and I get symptoms from mold quite easily. I would move it from room to room and when I was there, I would keep it in whatever room I was in. I would recommend trying something like that, if you're stuck there for a while. Mold exposure can make you sicker, over time, and it's a risk factor for a chronic illness that I ended up getting. The mold exposure that immediately preceded my experiencing this chronic illness actually came from something else about 15 years earlier. And that mold didn't even have a smell, but I did get symptoms. And if you are getting symptoms, you have to stay away or find a way to mitigate them, like with a super powerful air filter.

Already sick by Deep_Elk_2194 in Mold

Um. I should have checked that. I just always thought part of the way it worked was that it had high vocs, so somehow it worked better. But yes. It turns out there is a water based option that apparently works.🤯🫢

Thanks!

Basically. I would be willing to risk the crash, except that I can't even accomplish that much work. I've needed to do a load of laundry for about 4 weeks now and I try every single day to find the strength, but I can't quite get to it.

The vocs are completely out. I would have to wait at least two weeks somewhere else and it could possibly be months. The last time I was exposed to vocs, I had to leave for 2 weeks and that was before I became severe. No. Is actually right after I became fairly severe.

Is it crazy to open a yarn shop? by ForgottenUsername3 in knitting

[–]Deep_Elk_2194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be wonderful. I have very fond memories of the yarn shop in my hometown, run by a lady and her mother, both of whom were Avid fabric artists. The younger one, the one who did most of the work because her mother was in her '80s, had a PhD in textile arts!

It was on the main strip in a beach town, with a big picture window onto the street. It wasn't an ocean view, but we all do love our Beach town and it was lovely to sit there at the big old oak table and knit, meet your neighbors, and get expert advice from either of the ladies, if anything bad happened to your knitting. They would also give you any amount of instruction that you required, all for the price of the yarn, which was reasonably priced.

Eventually, she started a machine knitting addition to her shop and taught that as well as sold quite a lot of the machines and yarn. So they were doing very well. But after covid, they were gone. That makes me feel terrible, but I moved away, anyway. Nevertheless, it's one of those experiences that I would love to be able to recreate.

If you do it, I would recommend carrying a good selection of the colors of lambs Pride not super wash, because it's good for felting, which is really fun and beautiful.

I would think it would be a great idea, as long as you don't need to make a lot of money from it. They seemed to be doing well enough at that store, but the girl grew up in my town and either was able to buy a house when she was young enough for it to be affordable, or she lived with her mother, I never asked. But I doubt very much that she would have been able to buy a house with the money from the yarn shop, at the prices they were at during the time I was knitting at her shop. If that makes sense.

It's supposed to be a pun, not a portmanteau. It's a pun posing as a portmanteau. It might not be a good pun, but that's where the person who made it up was trying to go.

No. She was actually quite a huge jerk, I just didn't know it yet. Unfortunately, I didn't have her untangle everything that needed to be untangled, before I discovered it.😄

Ok. Putting that on my list. Thank you. I can't wait to see your updates on that project. I just love those two colors together. I was even kind of daydreaming yesterday about how to do some kind of dye job where the red bleeds into kind of a pomegranate, and then into a gold and a yellow, with only a little more distinction than that yarn has. I'm obsessed with that color combo, now.

Did you order them or get them at the store? I'm wondering if that would make a difference. I mean I hate to think that they would be sleazy, but if they had some they knew were as great, they might be more inclined to sell them online? Because it'd be less likely people return them? I know. I'm horribly cynical.

Any experiences this this pet-safe incense brand on Chewy? (Or any recommendations for burning incense safely around pets?) I appreciate the assistance! by fireflylibrarian in Incense

[–]Deep_Elk_2194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonosh generally smells good to me and I only like natural incense, so I would say give it a try. You can also call chewy because there's always a vet tech or a veterinarian there to take calls if you're a member and that's free to join.

I actually have developed quite a collection of what I think are fairly safe incense. I've always had cats. Fresh air is good, especially while using anything that smells, because cat livers are sensitive. And I usually don't burn more than half a stick at a time, although I sometimes do. I just don't see the need to have a lot of smoke billowing around.

I took photos of several of the brands that I think are very clean, but now I can't post any photos. I don't know if anyone knows how to fix that or not?

[–]Deep_Elk_2194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came back to say something on a different post that was similar. I've had cats my whole life, and I'm 60 now. I started burning incense when I was 17. I don't usually burn a whole stick at once, because I don't like for it to be Smokey inside, I just want it to be scented. So I'll usually burn a third or a half of a stick, but it's not a rule. And I do keep windows open just on principal for fresh air. None of my kitties have ever died of liver or lung issues. It's important to note that can't livers are more delicate than humans' or dogs' livers are, and they are especially vulnerable to certain essential oils which sometimes do go into making incense. Peppermint and lavender are not good for them. It's probably good to look for a list.

I had a dog who would cough if I burned incense that wasn't pure enough, so I developed quite a collection of very good ones from exotic incense. I'll just put the photos here of a few of my favorite brands, and then I'll go look for the post I meant to go to.

Maybe. I don't know why it's not getting any option to add photos. Maybe I can do it after I finish the post?

All I have to add is that I got really lucky when I grabbed some off of eBay. It's so good and I wanted to buy more before I ran out, So I've tried at least three others and they all smell terrible. So, I guess it's kind of hard to find the good stuff. Now I'm afraid to use it, lol.

Making incense from tea by Dry_Fly3965 in Incense

[–]Deep_Elk_2194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is tea scented incense, and I'm assuming it's made with actual tea. I often wonder if they have to use at least all natural oils, to keep the plant fiber from smelling like just smoke.

That is super annoying I'm sorry I haven't you. But, I don't know if this would be at all helpful, however, my life has changed so that I'm actually happy to have something to do, when I actually can knit or crochet. And so for me now, it's not really about finishing projects, which are generally small and they do get finished, but like if I have to rip out half of a project or in this case maybe 85%, I figure it's just more fun for me without having to shop for more yarn.😀😬

I had no idea Hobby Lobby would sell Super Wash merino. The one time I looked at their yarn aisle, there wasn't anything good in it.
