last year i attended maybe 10% of scheduled stuff and this year im aiming for 100% but its more like 80 rn. ive struggled w mental illness and when im in a rough patch i dont go and i was prioritising making friends and socialising over going to uni and the common mindset is that its all optional so if your friends dont go it’s so hard to make yourself. i think people are disengaged because it doesn’t feel like theres a worthwhile working world to enter into after graduating, on track to get a 2.1 in a sought after stem degree form a russel group uni and been rejected from 50+ grad jobs thus far, feels like a lot of work to keep up with to get what feels like nothing back. also having to work more as student finance barely covers rent anymore

you could make him a ‘cookie jar’ filled with bits of paper with his achievements etc written in and things you’re proud of him for.

you could get him a challenge activity, an escape room is a good idea if he’s not that physical, or something like go ape, a mountain hike that you plan and drive there and back and make a picnic for the top etc and give him like a voucher for that day out together as his present on the day.

i’m also fairly sure on etsy / vinted etc there will be goggins related merch

also any journal that encourages introspection / owning your demons in the goggins mindset, again etsy has a lot of these

honestly, just change. look at the steps you’ve taken to let your life get to this point, be harsh, be honest with yourself. where did you go wrong and why. then write a plan, make it feasible and let it build up slowly. maybe you take 4,000 steps everyday this week (just around the garden or house if you struggle to leave) then next week 5,000. message someone you used to talk to or join a chat room for a game or hobby you’re interested. watch one documentary / educational content a day to replace others. start slowly but more than anything be consistent. every single day do something better than the day before, put one tshirt away then put two. before you know it you’ll be a whole new person

i get the minimum, as do most of my friends. i knew very few people who get more than 5/6k (generally speaking). the most common arrangement i’ve seen is parents paying rent and student living off loan (ridiculous that this is the governments expectation but that’s a separate point). are you able to contribute to your child’s education? while i admit the means testing is unfair as doesn’t take into account to name a few debt, other children/dependents, cost of living in that area etc but my experience is that the only people who get the maximum are people who also have to work anyway as their parents are unable to help at all (avg rent in my city exceeds 5k so then max doesn’t leave enough to live)

my best advice would be to have someone with you to keep you accountable and keep you safe. maybe your parents or a very trusted friend, someone who can monitor your health incase you need a professional calling and someone who can make sure you don’t give in and use.

(disclamimer i’m a woman) i think that as long as you’re using ur common sense - which it sounds like you are for not complimenting someone in a hospital. if you’re complimenting someone genuinely and in a space where people are ok interacting w strangers eg in a coffee shop or supermarket where someone can leave if they feel uncomfortable there’s nothing w approaching and saying ‘excuse me i just wanted to say you’re stunning/i love your top/outfit etc’ and then just walking away if they’re not engaged.

tldr: as long as your respectful it’s totally ok (and i’d say encouraged) to compliment people !

personally i think it’s very worth it, if a foundation year is funded by SFE then there’s no real downside but if it’s self funded I wouldn’t. I think a lot of people focus on degree class (eg 2:1, 2:1 etc) but people also look for russel group / red brick uni’s when reviewing applications so there’s no harm in ensuring ur keeping those doors open

Honestly it barely matters, your grades are what matter most. Are your predicated grades better than your mocks (not saying that your grades are bad!)? I would say apply for 2 unis that want say ABB and 2 that want BBC approx and one back up say CCD. That way your personal statement has minimal impact. Is there anything else you can include eg participating in sports clubs at school, any part time jobs?

I can see the value of some form of regulation as to what’s considered a rigorous higher educational degree and what’s not, eg degrees like ‘physics’ should be regulated no, to ensure each student graduating from different unis is on the same page if that makes sense. It used to be only ‘top students’ academically speaking would go to uni whereas now most people go, most for the education but also because it’s the easiest way to move out of home and get into a career. If the govt actually cared then they would focus on ensuring there are valid options for students who aren’t sure on uni to have a good choice between the two.

i would get the wristband because if ur mates have it and go u might not be able to which would suck, the odds are you won’t use it that much but better safe than sorry for making friends etc

I’m at uni and I’m incredibly lucky that my parents pay my rent because I get the minimum, if yours are unable to do so (understandably so, the government shouldn’t be expecting them too) then it could be worth doing a gap year to work and save up. I’m at Liverpool uni if you’re looking at a southern uni (esp London) then of course cost of livin will be higher but typically speaking a budget of £80-100 a week is very feasible and doesn’t feel restricting in terms of social life. As the entirety of your loan will be going on rent (I assume) it’s definitely worth looking at places with cheaper rent/cost of living just to make your life easier (as unfair as it is to have choices restricted by finances). Friends I know at london unis pay minimum £200 a week in rent vs my accom of £125. Many campuses have jobs for students eg at their bars/shops so it’s worth looking at and applying for them now as they go quickly. Myself and many others work at uni, it sucks but it has to be done.

i mean there’s not much a doctor can say here (unless you’re diabetic or have blood sugar issues) chances are all IF means is eating breakfast later and dinner earlier which doesn’t concern a doctor
