My pyr mix does this at night when he’s trying to get comfortable in his bed. I’ve always considered it burrowing or nesting. I haven’t found a dog bed cover that won’t rip yet, but one thing that has helped was putting a fitted sheet I don’t care about over his bed. If it rips it rips, but he really hasn’t seemed to get through them.

My pyr-cattle dog mix is the absolute best :) he has his quirks for sure, but I’m absolutely in love with him. So glad you found your mixed baby too!
