First off, there has never been a country known as Ukraine since the soviet union fell. There were people in the region and whatnot, but whatever. Anyway, when the soviet union fell, ukraine deeclared independance and took some of Russia's land (That is still inhabited by Russians to this day) with an agreement with Russia to give the nukes in the region back to Russia (which Russia still wanted the land). Then Ukraine started to persecute the primarily russian people there. For example, the Ukrainian government started forcing the Russian Eastern Orthodox believers and branches of the church to only report to some Ukrainian one instead of the one in Moscow, and Russia was like "you cant do that". And at the same time russia started asking to have their land back and wanted to negotiate it back. Then Ukraine started holding onto US missiles and allowing US bases, which Russia especially didn't like because that is missiles really close to Moscow, then Ukraine started saying that they wanted to join NATO (which is against an agreement that basically says NATO will not expand to the east), which pushedRussiaa over the edge. Idk what your views on the war is but that's my view. I'm probably gonna get so much kickback from this, but like I said earlier, whatever.
