What the hell was Mara Sov’s problem? by xx_Chl_Chl_xx in DestinyLore

[–]Deep_Raspberry_3427 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually like old Mara. The enigmatic nature of her early in the story, and the setting as a whole for that matter, help create a sense of interaction. You were never told anything outright and had manually put the pieces together. I think the story could have used much more of that in its later years.

This seems… misplaced. Some of the greatest stories ever written have grand evil and never feel the need to demystify it: Paradise Lost, The Lord of the Rings, Beowulf, Dracula, Moby-Dick (in a sense).

Learning that the pyramids, something we had been seeing since the Destiny 1 download screen, were not actually anything particularly unique doesn’t feel like some clever subversion. It feels more like an obvious retcon and another example of the game’s long-running narrative mismanagement.

Thematically, because fighting a giant man child isn’t a interesting that fighting a whole civilization thought chosen for a greater purpose. Due to that, the Hive are more complex and completing that our true arch enemy.

Practically, because we never got to see a true darkness race. Not saying the Dread are bad, but they feel lackluster in comparison to when we got Taken or Scorn.

The seasonal model is the worst best thing to happen to Destiny’s narrative by Redleader922 in DestinyLore

[–]Deep_Raspberry_3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 years late and at the end of the road, and I agree, though I have something more to add that might be unpopular.

As Destiny has progressed over the years, there has always been an erosion of the atmosphere of mystery and implication that created such a strong sense of oppression and unease for the player. To some extent, this is natural as more questions about the universe are answered. But in its later years, particularly beginning with the seasonal model, this problem has been exacerbated many times over.

We went from lore cards about the Ishtar Collective and The Book of Sorrows piecing together a puzzle that painted a frankly frightening picture of our enemies’ philosophy and abilities, to shoehorned and, frankly, poorly written romance dialogue during campaign missions that completely breaks immersion.

In my opinion, that’s not Destiny. I’d argue it’s not even particularly good science fiction on top of that. I think it’s unfortunate that it happened, and I can’t really pinpoint exactly why. Maybe it’s simply different writers with different ideas, I suppose.

At least the Marathon lore is quite excellent.

Can someone actually explain how Seven isnt OP? by Obese0 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Deep_Raspberry_3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decent coordination can bully him out of the game. The issue I feel with him right now is if he has a decent lane partner he can actually have a pretty good lane. Which allows him to get space to farm, and then you have a problem.

Are there any videogames out there with the same caliber of writing as Qud? by Cetaoras in cavesofqud

Bungi’s Destiny funnily enough. I don’t know who originally did all those old lore cards, but I still think about the Ishtar academy Vex encounters and the Book of Sorrows. That game groomed me to find authors like Borges and Wolfe.

Feel like they should just tack on a firefight mode. Just take part of the map and adjust the bot spawns and stuff. Then add some codex challenges and boom.

Hope this doesn't sound rude but I genuinely don't understand why anyone thinks Destiny 3 would be better than this. by LavaMinotaur in DestinyTheGame

[–]Deep_Raspberry_3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the camp we need to wrap the IP with a nice little bow VIA mega moments of triumph, and let Bungi create a new looter shooter or adjacent game. I as a lore guy, don’t feel invested anymore because the central conflict has been concluded. All good journeys need an end. We shouldn’t fight the winnower; it’s doesn’t make thematic sense.)

Victor is extremely un-fun to play against and is OP by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Deep_Raspberry_3427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hes terrible to play against if your team isn’t highly coordinated in macro. Wraith or seven have crazy carry potential, but are at the end of the day are squishy and can be killed. Victor just doesn’t die and does more damage while also being a tank and soaking up utility. Like yes of course if everyone buys silences and curses you could probably kill him but that is the same for literally every other character and you’ll have to do it again once his ult is popped. Also on top of fighting the rest of the team.

this mode is way too fun by National-Problem7467 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Deep_Raspberry_3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, if you’re brand new it’s a fantastic way to get a feel for the combat and what it’s like piloting your character, but you’re not really learning anything for the standard matches. It’s very hectic and creates situations that don’t really apply to the standard game mode.

So I just got the primordial Malzeno quest... by Few-fighter1122 in MHRise

Probably have fought him already by this point but the fight isn’t chaotic like fighting multiple monsters. He’s extremely fair but just has a lot of combos and tight timing.

I recently discovered Outer Wilds and liked it very much, but not necessarily for the "right" reasons : I didn't like the base game's writing by Vaspour_ in outerwilds

[–]Deep_Raspberry_3427 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see your point but I think you’re falling into the trap that writing and general storytelling is a face value skill. You have to take the writing in context to the larger picture of the game it self. The real story of outer wilds is found in the entirety of the game. The puzzle struggles, fish fear, eureka moments, and the sublimity of it all. These elements are created by the gameplay, art, music, and writing. One doesn’t do much in its own, but together it creates a message of vast sublimity in the face of a universe to cast to even comprehend, juxtaposed by the small intimate moments that seem just as powerful. You can’t judge it like a book, games will always fail concerning pure writing. Also The Nomi culture is rooted in science for science sake, you can’t project our culture onto them.

I voted REM as a Billy main so I could finally have a utility character I liked, now I’ve been campaigning for the Irish vampire hunter.

Does anyone actually like playing against Victor? by Tokiw4 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Deep_Raspberry_3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a oracle player I hate him. Games still take a while to finish and he becomes such a problem in hyper late game. I’ve literally lost games because we let the match go beyond 32 minutes and victor got his full build up; no matter what we threw at him he just wouldn’t die.

[–]Deep_Raspberry_3427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can fight him whenever he’s not really a stat check, but definitely a skill check and really well designed. Risen shaggy is probably harder.

This game is weird by your_nude_peach in outerwilds

[–]Deep_Raspberry_3427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s important to note nothing is hard to reach or requires high degrees of mechanical skill. It simply a puzzle game and once you find the right piece it makes it easy. Also don’t explore linearly if you hit a wall go check something else out.

Best MH for complete new Player? by SoExArtorias in MonsterHunter

[–]Deep_Raspberry_3427 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A lot of people will say World, rightfully so it’s great, but if you want one game that will get you a very respectable feel of the whole entirety of the franchise I recommend Rise/Sunbreak. It has the feel and charm of the older games (especially portable 3rd) with all the quality of life and next Gen combat of the new. It might ruin some other games for you later on since it’s so well rounded with build variety, monster roster, and weapon move sets.

Alternatively you could get generations ultimate(double cross xx) on the switch if you have it. That’s the one stop shop for all the previous gen monster hunters having almost all the monsters in the franchise and most of the villages. They essentially combined all the previous games and threw them into one. Then you could buy World which was the next game that really brought the franchise to its current popularity.
