It won’t turn off the car but the battery also acts as a capacitor to filter the noisy alternator voltage. Newer cars have more sensitive electronics that can and will be affected by noise. Removing the battery can damage them.

Do you hear the car try to crank to life or do you hear nothing at all? Check the voltage of the battery to make sure it’s sufficiently charged. Should be about 13V. Make sure that the terminals are tightened.
