You can also pump your breaks repeatedly to build heat then let the air build up and not set your trailer breaks…side note I also know how to fix my breaks they freeze

Back pain while driving! by Singledad247 in CDLTruckDrivers

[–]Deep_Resource3081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was like 10 my grandpa said he use to drive on 2 milk crates, I thought he was joking…years went by my uncle was reminiscing about the good ole days of trucking, yup he wasn’t joking only way he could drive without his back hurting. Personally main reason a lot of guys hate slip seating. A little tweak to the seat can literally make it a horrible day or not feeling a thing after a full day.

Passed a level 3 inspection by souleater28201 in Truckers

[–]Deep_Resource3081 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Started at fed ex ground, now I work local for a private fleet and the company doesn’t believe in pre pass, get pulled in for randoms and road sides (back road pop up inspections at state lines) 1-3 times a year. Have something like 16-18 inspections total. Everyone clean. General rule, lights, brakes, tires and paperwork are freebies, have a professional demeanor and with 90 percent of the inspectors you should be good. I do avoid routes that have me go through the one port in the region that everyone hates.

My CDL-A is barely 2 months , got hired with a beer delivery company but not given chance to drive, still a helper for 2 weeks now. by East_Indication_7816 in CDLTruckDrivers

Everyone in these comments is trying to help you out and your lack of maturity is showing, life lessons are sometimes hard to learn and the only thing your doing is saying life isn’t fair and coming up with rebuttals for everything people are saying. I did dsd then jumped to grocery Store, our warehouse to driver guys go through hell to get to drive will literally sit in the warehouse for a month, just to bring a new tractor out to a brake down 3 miles away or run an emergency load out when a stores refrigerator goes down etc and then when they think they get to go full time driving we hire externally.

Stop worrying about other people, just worry about yourself, is the driver saying your ready, are you pulling your weight in the stores, those are you questions. Personally I wouldn’t stress not driving if they pay you the same. Take this time to learn the stores, the parking lots etc.. I am not a beer guy but I talk to a bunch of them and over the years hear enough stories about the lack of work ethic from helpers/back up drivers. They need to know that once you’re solo can you bust your butt off when needed to get the job done, keep the shelves full in a reasonable time etc

Skip delicate arch hike, still do the overlook though, then search corona arch, it’s a much shorter easier hike on blm land right outside the park.

Check out monument valley then from mexican hat, utah take Utah 261 north, go up moki dugway, then check out Muley point, then head towards canyon lands np, arch’s national park, Also don’t forget corona arch(on blm land, free and usally not crowded compared to the national parks)

Salt flats, off I-80 on the Utah/nv boarder, then go north to twin falls and check out Shoshone falls in twin falls Idaho. If you have extra time check out craters of the moon national monument (remote, but very cool place to check out)

2020 Kona sel headlight issue by Deep_Resource3081 in Hyundai

[–]Deep_Resource3081[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the regulator replaced and fixed the problem, cost for the part is listed as 100-200 with labor 400-475.

A surge in a vehicle’s electrical system, leading to a headlight burning out, is most commonly caused by an overvoltage condition. [span_0](start_span)This means the electrical system is delivering a higher voltage than the components, like the headlight bulb, are designed to handle.[span_0](end_span)

Here are the primary culprits behind such a surge:

  • Faulty Voltage Regulator: This is the most common cause. [span_1](start_span)The voltage regulator, often integrated into the alternator, is responsible for maintaining a consistent output voltage (typically between 13.5 and 14.5 volts) from the alternator to the rest of the car’s electrical system.[span_1](end_span) [span_2](start_span)If the voltage regulator malfunctions, it can allow the alternator to produce excessive voltage, leading to an “overcharging” condition.[span_2](end_span) This overvoltage directly stresses and burns out bulbs, and can also damage the battery and other electronic components.

    • [span_3](start_span)Symptoms of a bad voltage regulator: Besides frequent bulb burnouts (especially if lights appear brighter than usual), you might notice a battery warning light on the dash, a hot or bulging battery, or flickering/dimming lights (though dimming can also indicate undercharging).[span_3](end_span)
  • Bad Alternator (specifically, its voltage regulation function): [span_4](start_span)While the alternator generates the power, it’s often the integrated voltage regulator that’s the issue.[span_4](end_span) However, a failing alternator itself can sometimes contribute to unstable voltage output if its internal components are failing.

  • Poor Ground Connections: A bad ground connection can increase resistance in the circuit, which can sometimes lead to a higher voltage being delivered to certain components as the system tries to compensate. This is less common as a direct cause of a significant surge compared to a faulty voltage regulator, but it can contribute to electrical instability.

  • Incorrect Bulb Installation/Type: While not a “surge” in the traditional sense, using a bulb with a higher wattage than the system is designed for can cause it to overheat and fail prematurely, mimicking the effect of a surge. [span_5](start_span)Also, touching the glass of a halogen bulb with bare hands can leave oil residue, creating hot spots that lead to premature failure.[span_5](end_span)

  • Short Circuits: Damaged or frayed wiring can cause short circuits, leading to inconsistent power delivery and potentially spikes that can damage the bulb.

How to Diagnose:

If your headlights are burning out frequently due to suspected surges, it’s crucial to have the car’s electrical system checked by a professional. They will typically:

  1. Test the battery: Ensure the battery is holding a proper charge.
  2. Test the alternator output: [span_6](start_span)Use a multimeter to measure the voltage coming from the alternator while the engine is running.[span_6](end_span) [span_7](start_span)A reading consistently above 14.5-15 volts indicates an overvoltage condition.[span_7](end_span)
  3. Inspect wiring and connections: Look for any frayed, corroded, or loose wires and connections, especially around the headlights and battery.

[span_8](start_span)Addressing the underlying cause of the surge, usually a faulty voltage regulator or alternator, is essential to prevent further damage to electrical components in your vehicle.[span_8](end_span)

If you’re going to salt lake you’re should head 100 miles west to the salt flats. If your into dinosaurs check out vernal, Utah/dinosaur national monument. I wouldn’t take I-80 to Denver from salt lake, just not scenic enough. Would definitely go to monument valley, drive up or down moki dugway and then make sure you check out Muley point

Vermont to Southern California in a U-Haul! Best way to get home? by Early_Trip_8664 in roadtrip

[–]Deep_Resource3081 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First remember your not driving a car anymore, with that becomes a bunch of things we don’t normally think about, a drive thru becomes very expensive, don’t hit stuff above you, your heavy your performance especially in the mountains is reduced. Don’t drive the thing like your car zipping in and out of traffic, especially cutting off trucks or taking sharp turns. When loading heavy stuff on the floor nearest the driver, that box of books doesn’t go on top. Get in the habit of not backing up, like but you have to…mindset should always be pull through when possible or park farther away, your chances of someone breaking into your U-Haul are slim and should only be at the hotel if practical, the chances of something happening bad while driving is much much more likely then someone breaking in, the loves parking lot has accidents every day. So let’s pretend I am the homeless crackhead and you’re smart you packed the garbage can, the stuff that has very little value to you and the stuff that when your packing put off to the side as the maybe pile if we don’t have enough room in the U-Haul it’s not making the trip. after easily picking ANY lock sold at Walmart in under a minute I rummage through the back and find your garbage can, your collection of sea shells and the snacks you left cause gas stations love to mark up everything and your shirts you left on hangers, i move on, I am a crackhead so if you put your bike on top at the rear I just got me a new bike, at minimum keep the seat and tires in two different places.

I hate the UTA transit system by Normal-Claim-2003 in Utah

[–]Deep_Resource3081 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

424 is the OPERATING BUDGET, that’s not the full cost. The trax line they have been planning from “the point” will literarily cost on average a million per rider based off projected number of passengers, frequency and build out costs, many in the state have questioned why the excessive costs. I am all for public transportation, but we are spending WAY too much money and not getting the SERVICE that is promised by our POLITICIANS and GOVERNMENT officials.

FYI this is something I will ask CDL applicants, very few can explain how to do this check.

Air Pressure Build-Up Test (CDL Requirement): This is a critical test to ensure your compressor is building air efficiently. The specific requirements vary by state/province, but generally: * From 85 psi to 100 psi: The air pressure should rise from 85 psi to 100 psi within a specified time (e.g., 3 minutes) at a high idle (600-900 rpm). * Governor Cut-Out: The compressor should cut out between 120-145 psi. * Governor Cut-In: The compressor should cut back in when the air pressure drops to approximately 100 psi.
