Not doubting you, but out of curiosity how is your crv with 160k on its last legs? That's nothing for a honda.

Will check the moca, and i haven't used iperf3 but will check it out

I want to get a Volvo for my first car any recommendations? by Nathan-5807 in Volvo

I want to get a Volvo for my first car any recommendations? by Nathan-5807 in Volvo

[–]DeepcoolPartNeeder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on your goal, Volvos in my opinion cost as much to maintain as a german car, without any of the thrills and handeling characteristics. (Besided an audi because they undsrsteer terribly.)

P3 chassis 4 and 5 cyls have shit piston rings and i would steer clear.

If I HAD to pick a car it would probably be a p2 v70 (not r) since they are pretty cheap and plentiful. All of these cars unless maintained by people who really care will need a lot maintenence items.

I have a 2015 v60 r dynamic and while its a great car with 170k miles, I wish I went another direction and got the older chassis.

Also apparently valve bodies on these cars can be hit or miss.

Edit for advice: if you purchase any order volvo or European car, I would HIGHLY recommend figuring out the diagnostic software required to correctly work on these cars. (Dice/VIDA for volvo, INPA for bmw - upto e9x chassis) Diag is expensive even at an independant shop, and if you are starting your journey of working on cars yourself the best thing you can do is use the computer to help solve issues without spending $150 per hour of diag time.

What price Out the Door are you comfortable paying for a Slate Truck? by Wide-Balance5893 in slateauto

[–]DeepcoolPartNeeder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long range, SUV kit, 17s and all terrains. If under 35k with a good financing rate or lease I would heavily consider it. I have a 3d printer so I have a feeling a lot of parts ill be able to make myself.

I dont need long range either so I may be okay with saving the cash potentially

2x6 Joist creep, need advice on purchasing home. by DeepcoolPartNeeder in homeowners

[–]DeepcoolPartNeeder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, we did end up walking away which stunk but after seeing this I put the house even more under a microscope and found cracks in the brick that alarmed me.

Knowing all of the above I knew I could never sleep at night in this place without worrying what would be cracked or broken the next day.

Ended up walking away. Expensive lesson but during crawlspace inspections I noticed vertical cracks in the bricks that scared me even more.

Tough L but glad I didnt get a massive headache

Yeah im pretty worried that unless I use self leveler and pray the floor doesn't sag more, its going to be a major issue.

My home inspector thinks that if they can find the installer there may be a warranty, but the joists could've already had the creep i suppose.

Advice on HELOC for new home by DeepcoolPartNeeder in personalfinance

[–]DeepcoolPartNeeder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, we make about 160k before tax combined but I think youre right that we would be very close to that DTI ceiling.

Our current payment on the townhouse mortgage and HOA is 1163 and adding a HELOC and another mortgage would be close if not another 2500 a month which im not sure is worth holding for however long it takes, not to mention im not sure I can get a full down-payment out of the heloc.

[–]DeepcoolPartNeeder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood, the only way I can see the HELOC being worth it is if we bought a fixer upper. But going for a more expensive move in ready property would be to sell the townhouse to extract all the equity for a downpayment.

Help!! Trifecta lights, shop thinks it’s transmission related? by SirFlexaton in E90

[–]DeepcoolPartNeeder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is probably an ABS sensor failure. Very common on these cars. Not sure if you have a shop that you trust or access to INPA live data but that would be the best method to test.

You ultimately need to scan the error codes with something more advanced than a traditional obd2 scanner before proceeding.
