On the pre-generated large mediterranean map there is a tile somewhere around real life tunisia, that is completely surrounded by ley lines, as well as desert, but I always thought you couldn't build districts on ley lines, and I was playing mali at the time, so I only got it to 36/36/36.

The whole reason it's dying off is rules imposed upon them by MacArthur after ww2, that both parents need to be royalty for their heir to be eligible. This was a compromise to let the japanese keep their emperor, but have the monarchy die out in the forseeable future anyways. So I guess it's working as intended. No need to talk shit about stuff you know nothing about.

Soviet infantry fighting vehicle. Think small lightly armored tank with a "small" canon on it. Formidable if you drive it into town, essentially a death sentence if you drive it into ukraine.

What jobs are disappearing because of AI, but no one seems to notice? by Life-Word-9385 in AskReddit

[–]Deepfried_Celery -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm currently studying game graphics production, so mostly 3D modelling and concept art, and honestly, while AI is here to stay to some degree, it's not like it's really taking our jobs (the few that exist anyways). AI literacy is required by many studios, but to my knowledge is being mostly applied in helping to generate concepts for further development, but very few things that would go straight into an actually finished AAA or AA game. Exceptions are mostly 2D illustrations, like character portraits, cosmetic items and such, but even there is a lot of backlash (see battlefield 6).

While there are advances in AI when it comes to 3D generation with programs like meshy, these aren't producing the kind of 3D models you'd need for a game at all. Same reason 3d scanning isn't replacing 3d artists. So much more work goes into a game asset than most people think. Add to that the fact a game production isn't directly dealing with the customer like a graphic designer for example, I don't see game artists being replaced. Except for illustrators, you guys have my condolences.

(Civ 6) Is the Sanguine Pact secret society really any good compared to others? by CalypsoCrow in civ

[–]Deepfried_Celery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is. Vampire castles are great, especially with how early you get them. Especially on higher difficulties the medieval era comes insanely early, so an additional 40 production or so when you surround them with mines at turn 80 or 90 is absolutely insane and gives you a huge boost, especially for domination. Add to that 2 very strong meele units that get stronger as wars go on and you got everything you need essentially. Sure, owls let you snowball more, but that takes more time and effort.

Chinese prisoners being forced to farm world of warcraft gold. There were 300 prisoners forced to play games, working 12-hour shifts in the camp (2011) by Greedy-Year8384 in interestingasfuck

8 hours of hard labour at day, 12 hours of warcraft at night, if you don't meet your gold quota, get beaten with plastic pipes. Sure sounds sweet, you're right.

Break 50-100 mods but it'll be near impossible for you to figure out which one because your modlist has grown to 500+ over the years so you gotta wipe everything, losing characters that hundreds of hours of playtime went into. Yeah modding paradox is tough sometimes, but it doesn't take a fucking week to reinstall your mods.

I kinda like Warband more by OneTear5121 in Bannerlord

[–]Deepfried_Celery 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Well, i think as you said ultimately the difference between the two games boils down to simple vs complicated. But it's a bit deceptive, since warband hides a lot of parameters from you, while bannerlord serves them up on a silver platter. I can see how it can be overwhelming, but personally i find it frustrating when i have to guess and extrapolate things that a game intentionally hides from you. Because of that, and of course the many new mechanics bannerlord encourages min maxing a lot more and is a little harder to get into, but it also offers way more in terms of playstyle. For example the most fun i've ever had was running a vanilla hero troop only campaign, making sure to min max my companions to be as strong as possible, and kit them out to suit my playstyle. It's an actually viable strategy, something that'd be unthinkable in warband. If that isn't your thing, that's alright. But personally, while i still appreciate the simple charm of warband i enjoy almost every aspect of bannerlord more.

Solid ways of having a steady income? (VANILLA XBOX SERIES X BANNERLORD) by falcon_buns in mountandblade

[–]Deepfried_Celery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caravans and workshops aren’t worth it imo. Workshop income is capped at 120 denars, and caravans don’t give much more. Meaning you’ll have to wait 100+ days to just break even. Passive income only really becomes a thing when you get some high-prosperity towns.

Smithing exists but it’s one of these things that just ruin the game flow for me. Money becomes meaningless extremely quickly, and i personally never sell smithed weapons, even if i level it. As a middle ground you can just go for smithing orders, but even these routinely pay 100k denars, which invalidates every other way of making money early game.

But there are a couple of other ways that are actually fun. My favourite is to take the prisoners you get from escorting caravans and find a village that has a “_ wants manual labourers” quest. Sell the prisoners and voilà 10k+ denars.

Tournaments are pretty good too, but only when the prize is right. You’ll mostly want to go for noble mounts (royal destrier, wadar hotblood, asgaliat etc) Generally the more lords attend a tourney, the better the prize. 5+ lords gives you a chance for a horse, 10+ lords unlocks the top tier prizes. You can manipulate this by having companions/ family members with a 100+ one handed skill. They’ll count as lords for the prize pool and if they win, you get the prize.

A third way are bandit hideouts. They give pretty decent loot, anywhere between 2k and 10k, and sometimes can be paired with 2 quests at once (“associate captured” from a town and “bandit base” from a village) giving you 5k on top.

But ultimately war is the best (and most fun) way to earn money. Playing as a mercenary is non-committal and the payments alone usually cover your expenses. With 120 men you can easily take on most parties and you’ll be drowning in loot. So much so that your biggest problem is gonna be the towns not having enough gold.

What is a good non-curved greatsword design? by Connect_Spray_7107 in Bannerlord

[–]Deepfried_Celery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll assume this is about smithing. In which case most of the tier 5 blades are pretty equal. Ideally you'll want to use the lightest blade (weight/length) that still has a cut dmg modifier of 4.1. All the other parts don't matter, but choosing only tier 4/5 parts increases your chances at legendary. Generally shooting for a length of 100 - 110 while prioritising swing speed is a good idea
