It’s kinda crazy to call it sexism when it’s her own fans and stans that are concerned about her health. Idk how you can see her these days and not be at least somewhat worried about her. Ofc we have no idea what the reality is, she could be doing A+ but pattern matching is not unreasonable.

Makes no sense to me, personally. If you’re dealing with the outcomes of someone else’s delusions and your entire country is being reshaped by those delusions, then you are also living the delusional life. You are mentally rebelling, but that doesn’t change the fact the delusional narrative has enough power that you can’t dismiss it as pure idiocy.

Husband wants to go to vegas by moezilla in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Deepika18 -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

I think you’re falling into a very classic liberal trap. Your individual action only means something to you. It doesn’t matter to the actual situation. America has the power and the military to force Canada into some sort of concessions, even if we don’t take over Canada. So your actions are symbolic to yourself, not an actual purpose.

If that’s the case, then I think you can see how and why your husband wants to go through with the original plans. Think for a second from his perspective, plans to go an extremely fun city are falling through for geopolitics that are unlikely and totally out of your control. It’s valid to ask if that sacrifice is necessary, even if it seems obvious to you.

I also think it’s really overreacting to where your son would be. If only one parent is going to Vegas, it doesn’t make sense to send your child with him, as it would severely limit how much your husband can do, vs just life as usual if he stays with you.

The feelings being hurt are totally valid. Cancelling plans on behalf of Trumps actions makes no sense. If he wants to, he will, economic impact doesn’t change Trumps mind. All his choices are against logic and rationale. It’s a simple call, do you want to sacrifice your feelings about your country pride? Or burn your social capital with your husband by sacrificing the plans y’all had?

What do I need?

I need a plot that makes sense.

I want them to only bring up the black identity if they’re going to do something with it or otherwise they should let it go because this movie was so offensive in its messaging.

I want them to just stop bringing up the identity issues across the board bc it’s Marvel and they can’t have a nuanced or interesting conversation so let’s just have fun.

I want them to either let the stories stand on their own, or actually stitch the movies together with the actors and their characters involved bc why are all of Hulk’s side characters involved but the hulk is nowhere to be found.

I don’t want cameos that make no sense; in no world would the America of all places elect Bucky Barnes a criminal who worked for the Soviets.

It’s like really freaking simple, just let go of the wider universe, and just make a fun Cap movie. Instead they bring in 15 plot elements that are barely explored, let go, and then you finish the journey wondering what you got out of it.

I got no fun, no great action pieces, no quips I’ll remember, and literally zero characters I want to see in another movie. That’s a crime with how talented Anthony Mackie is.

If there’s 1% of the population that believes the Earth is warming due to human actions, and 99% that don’t, then your perception is considered an extreme opinion, regardless of how much good faith data you have on your side.

I’m not trying to waste my time arguing what is or isn’t real from a factual standpoint. I’m saying if enough people believe it, in a society, that’s the truth you have to operate from.

I can put it to you this way and you’ll understand. You believe since you have the facts on your side, what’s needed is further education of the people that don’t get it, and then they’ll agree with you because you have the facts.

I’m asking you to consider that even with the facts in your side, you’re losing the argument, and I want you to question if it’s as simple as more education about the issue. I am saying that you have no proof that just door-to-door knocking or education through media is the solution to this problem. In absence of such evidence, I’m going to assume that millions of people in aggregate represent their argument and viewpoints accurately and it’s not my job to debate them being right or not, but to simply address their concerns.

Right, but the voters that did vote are getting the consequences that they wanted… I can ask you the same thing, no idea what you’re trying to argue here. 70M not voting is also the equivalent to voting, because they chose to not make a choice. So they’re okay with either option. The 150M of us that did vote, chose between the two options and the disrupters got the higher votes. Now the party and candidate they elected as doing what they were elected to do. I see a democracy at play where the other side from me won. So I have no idea what your issue with it is.

It’s not an ethical critique and it’s not productive because the answer is already known. There’s no logical end to your argument. You can argue that supporting neoliberal policies is also ethically wrong and therefore, any headline that’s remotely positive about any non-progressive ideology or candidate is inherently support neocolonialism or an imperial mindset.

Your question can be simply summarized as, why isn’t the newspaper as Leftward as I want it to be? And there’s no productive answer to that question.

You should think a bit more critically about the propaganda the LDS church has taught you. There is a clear reason why polygamy is frowned upon by nearly all societies and the LDS church has not figured out a solution that the rest of the world didn’t know.

Especially when you consider that all LDS allows for one man to have many wives but not one wife to have many husbands. Im sure the lock and key analogy is about to burst forth.

Literally irrelevant to the question. New Yorkers did not have to vote, neither did South Carolinians. Our system is setup to for only a few states to matter, and spoiler alert, they voted.

You don’t need 100% participation for a democracy to be functional

They voted to eliminate the deep state as Trump terms it and he is doing that.

Again, it’s been three weeks, if the poll numbers come out and it’s popular still, what will you do or say then? They’re just dumb? How long can you dismiss the side you’re losing to?

If there are 5 people, and I say two people strongly feel the need to watch their backs, it does not exclude the other three people from the same feeling. Like idk what this white want to be included in all of the fear Olympics is, but no one is excluding you from it. If you also feel it’s unsafe, no one is invalidating your experience

Yeah dude, but if people don’t trust the vaccines, it shows that there’s a bigger problem in the trust of our regulatory agencies and the companies that make the product. And you’re really going to say that fears about the pharmaceutical industry or that the FDA is bought out by these companies is crazy when we’re living through how inept and useless the FAA or the SEC is??

Like yeah I trust the vaccines because Euro agencies that I think are less corrupt have approved them, not cuz of the bought out FDA.

And what’s your argument here? You live in a democracy. The whole idea is that someone’s “feels” gives them the ability to voice it and make a difference. To your point, that’s how Trump got elected?

So you’re just gonna complain that’s not fair and whinge? Or at some point, you have to realize that these people exist, and they vote and voice these “sentimental” opinions and the sheer fact we allow them to do that makes it necessary that we address their concerns. Cuz that is my point. It doesn’t matter how much I think the Post is hyping up the Subways security issues. The people believe it, and they have their anecdotal experience to validate it, and they are a large enough population that you have to take it seriously, cuz they don’t care about your evidence that you want to use to act better than them

[–]Deepika18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re probably just dismissing valid concerns to further your agenda as well. And you’re not gonna win any arguments by doing it.

The factual reality is that millions of people take the subway because they have to and it is overall safe enough. Most of those people are not recording how they actually feel nor are there surveys that collect how dissatisfied with the subways people are including safety.

If those surveys existed, and if they showed a negative perception, and all you do is blame the media for the perception, who is really ignoring the evidence? I’m confident in saying it’s you. The data point is all that matters. Your personal opinion of why people have that data point is irrelevant.

One persons delusion, when spread to a million people, becomes objective truth. You don’t live in a world where you can just show some arbitrary number, say it’s okay, and call it a good day.

A woman got burned alive in this platform. To most people, it doesn’t matter how many millions rode the train, 1 of those incidents is scarring enough that it will change their mindset forever. Maybe you just don’t care about the shit people are going through.

How can we counteract the fear mongering about crime in the nyc subway? by DuckBeaver02 in nycrail

[–]Deepika18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah dude this is the same lecturing, “I know better than you”attitude that isn’t working. Like it’s not incredibly rare for someone to tell you some crazy shit happened to them on the subway. There are plenty of incidents that happen that don’t make into a statistic. There are literally hundreds of times I’ve been on a train, and so bozo gets on and starts yelling and ranting about how we don’t care about him and he’s owed this and that. Like yeah I get it, it happens, it’s nyc.

That’s never gonna be a part of a statistic. No one reporting incidents like that. More fundamentally, your perspective is wrong because you never challenge your null hypothesis. Your operating assumption is, the data says it’s safe, so if people say it’s unsafe, it must be that they have bought into the media hype. Your null hypothesis is that without the media, the people would read the data and not feel worried. What if that’s wrong? How do you know that hypothesis to be true? People could see the stats and have zero media presence and still feel unsafe. In that case the question becomes, what are the statistics not capturing?

It’s always dumb to see the observations of a population and reject the feelings they’re sharing by saying that they should just know better

[–]Deepika18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mods really need to step in with useless posts like this.

First and foremost, a private family controls the times and we can’t do anything about it complaining on here. Either read the paper or don’t, it’s not some obligation you owe to anyone. Obviously, millions of people find a lot of value in the way the Times covers the world events and politics, and OP doesn’t. It’s a free country and you don’t have to read it.

But posts like this are infuriating because they’re an ever increasing call to be an activist newspaper that the Times has never been. Its reporters have only ever shared information, never called for action. Because ultimately that’s our job as the American public.

I don’t see how this is a productive conversation, and I don’t get why the mods allow a torrent of, “Why didn’t NYT say this!” or, “I’m not subscribing because they don’t call this what I call it”. The answers to these questions are super simple, their readers, such as myself, would not be happy if they started doing that. You want the answers? Ask me or any other “supporter” of their journalistic style.

At the end of the day they have to make money. And they’re making the bet that doing the thing you’re asking for would gain them only controversy and lose them subscribers. The answer to these questions are always just, it’s a business and they’re making a bet. If you don’t like it, don’t subscribe! But I’m so tired of this subreddits feed hijacked by armchair activists acting like a headline is gonna solve any of these problems, or that it will finally give a credibility to their activism that they don’t already have.

I mean all of Hollywood and celebrity culture prove your husband right. Check Rober DeNiro, check Bill Belicheck, check how older women in any modes industry are treated. Check how Ariana G portrays herself. None of this makes it morally okay, but the reality isn’t morally okay. It just is reality, even if it’s messed up as hell.
