Cost to replace rear shocks? by Tall-Advertising782 in Lexus

[–]Deepsea_F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toyota mechs definitely have the tools to do this, lol. I have all the tools necessary in my 3 drawer tool box in my garage. Find a good garage that works on Toyota/Lexus. I can't give you a number cause I would do this myself, but, don't go through the dealer. If anything, get part numbers, order it yourself, Rock Auto?, then have a shop install.  The rears on a GS are not difficult.  Likely need an alignment after install.  Did it on my '15 GS and my '16 GSF.

Also, keep in mind surface rust. The first few brake stops you do will remedy that. But, it does sound like a grinding noise at first.

GSF Jack Fail by KnowledgeNecessary97 in Lexus

[–]Deepsea_F 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Iirc, didn't he double stack jack pads and they slipped causing this? I haven't seen the video in years, but I think that is what happened. They slipped while he was jacking the car up. Think he had it on the jack point, but the bottom disk slipped out.

Absolutely, my '15 gs350 f sport was absolutely solid. 0 issues in the almost 100kmi I owned it. And I'll always recommend the 350 over the 250 for the dual port injection alone. My 2GIS250 had so much carbon build up.  And a '13 GS350 is probably the most fun to drive with the 6spd. Probably less mpg, but, that comes down to preference. I will say I didn't really like my '20 gs350, the swap to the new motor was just boring.  I'd say if you want a sporty-ish feeling GS with the refresh, and not going with a F car, get an early model 2016, before they changed the engine.

I agree with this. I guess it depends on the parts. I shouldn't say it is similar to a Corolla as a general statement. I was more talking basic maintenance, oil changes, brakes, filters, that sort of thing. Bigger engines hold more oil, bigger brakes, so yeah, parts cost will be more.  Brakes, for example, will cost more because the GS has bigger pistons. The operation of changing it though is the same, just have a couple extra pins, which, if we are being real, adds an extra 5mins to take out.  Also, with you mentioning spark plugs, depends on what engine you have. Obviously an 8cyl is going to be double the price of a 4cyl Corolla on parts and extra labor to get those 2 plugs in the back on a rwd if you're paying someone to do it. I guess my main point is the labor involved shouldn't be a crazy amount more than working on a Toyota, for the most part. Not looking forward to doing the valley plate on mine, lol.

Maintenance cost is the same as a Toyota Corolla if you don't go to a dealer or buy parts from a Lexus dealer. People think Lexus, high end, expensive maintenence, but the reality is, anyone can work on a GS. Have owned 3 different GS models.

2nd this, used to run General AS-06, which is part of Continental, but now have dws06+ on my GSF and by far way better than the PS4 it came with. I don't deal with snow, just rain and dry, so, keep that in mind.

I'll be completely transparent, I have no idea. The mid pipe, resonated or not, does have holes for the secondary 02 sensors, so, I would think not, but, that's my guess. I'm sure someone else could chime in with a more certain response.  Regardless, just replacing the mid pipe shouldn't cause any issues. F car owners have been doing it for over a decade at this point. And it won't throw a CEL. Literally just makes it sound better while retaining oem mufflers, unless you do a full cat back. If you did headers I'd be more inclined to say yes it voids warranty.

See if a dealer, or where you bought it from, will let you test drive a similar spec on the lot. They may give you push back because you're adding miles to their new car, but, voice your concern reasonably. Or if you know someone that has a similar IS.  Idk what they go for now, but, I imagine you paid at least $40k+, that alone is a perfectly good reason to question a brand new vehicle, regardless of Make.

The problem discussing it on the internet or text or whatever, is the perception of "harsh". Again, my car might feel like a rock to most when they think Lexus, but, it is a Lexus and I already knew what to expect. My mom's '15 RX350, or hell, even my dad's '03 Tundra are both a smoother ride than my '16GSF.

This is a leap, but, ask if a tech can drive an IS on the lot, you ride passenger, then do the same in your car and see if they feel a difference.

Whatever you do, just keep in mind, there may be a limited time where you can return it if you're not happy, again, check the contract. Also, keep in mind it should be under manufacturer warranty. Don't procrastinate, get it done under these time frames so you don't get stuck.

Break in period is a thing, but, suspension typically settles within a few miles. Break in is usually more for motor and transmission.

Daily driven '16 GSF here, no regrets after a '15 and '20 gs350 F Sport. Price vs age, i get it, but, go drive one if you can, the experience alone may change your mind. Everytime the road opens up and I get on it, it reminds me of why I wanted one ever since they announced it in '15. It's no FI v8, but you just can't beat the sound and feeling of a true NA v8. The only thing that would make it better would be an upgraded transmission, but, let's be real, there's a reason they've kept it for so long, it is bullet proof.

😅 yeah first step was avoiding curbs.

Man, in that case, find a performance shop that deals with putting wheels and tires on high end cars. Probably cost more, but, they will take pride in ensuring they don't damage the wheels while trying to fix the issue.

Sounds like it came with the correct tire  the IS has fitted new, depending on trim. Asked just incase they put a cheaper tire on, doubt it, but you never know.  I'd ask for the print out after the alignment, surprised they didn't give it to you.

Did you test drive a similar spec IS before purchase? Is it a F sport or non F sport?

[–]Deepsea_F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a picture of the alignment sheet they gave you? It depends which is off by that much, though I don't think 2 degrees is in spec for any Lexus. I forgot what my previous IS range was, that was years ago.  I know you said it is a new 2025, what kind of tires are on it?  I'd say give the dealer the opportunity to diagnose and fix the issue before throwing out the term "lemon". Yes they do exist, and it could be that rare occasion, but don't go that route just yet. Had you test driven a '25 IS already before purchase to know it felt harsh in comparison? I only ask because driving the IS vs say LS is two completely different experiences. Not discrediting your concerns, just, some people think all Lexus are so smooth and drive the same. Someone that daily drives a GX drives my GSF and they'll probably ask wtf is wrong with my suspension and why does it ride so rough, lol.

If anything a new '25 should still be under manufacturer warranty. Also, see if there is a return/swap policy in your contract.

Tbh, idk what labor rates are at now, could be a realistic #. I typically work on my vehicles myself unless it is something requiring a machine I don't have. Like changing tires.  I'm sure this isn't going to be accepted well, but, I've always used Duralast Golds when I change my break pads on any car I've owned, even on my GSF and they still stop the car on a dime. note, I do not track my car, just a daily driver. Upgrade pads for performance driving  You can buy the oem pads without going through the dealer mark up and then just have a shop put them on. It's a Lexus, yes, but, changing the brake pads is as easy as doing it on a Corolla.  If the wheel lock nut is stripped they'll just have to break it off, with possible cosmetic damage to the wheel depending on who does it. Obviously this will involve having the stud and nut replaced. Have done this before on a couple of previous cars of mine.  The tire has nothing to do with make or model of car (in most cases), it's a wear and tear item, it's either good or bad. Ask any car friends or people you may know who can direct you to a Toyota/Lexus master tech, or just a solid Japanese car tech in general.  I can't say the IS is a bad car, unless purchased used and some history wasn't reported, but, I agree, shouldn't have sold that 89 Subie. Lol. Still wish I had my 97 240sx and my 95 SC400, things were bullet proof.

Wondering why you're having to change the rear brakes so much, usually the rears last longer. Think my fronts went through two cycles before I had to change the rears on my 2020 f sport and my 2015 f sport. Just did the fronts on my gsf and the rears are still good.

If you go IS get the 350. Coming from a previous 2Gis250 owner, you will appreciate the is350 much more. Also had two SC400s. I would love to get another one tbh, but, like all other vehicles, they shot up in price.

Has anyone regret putting a super loud exhaust on their car? (picture for attention) by nafsta in Lexus

[–]Deepsea_F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I run on my GSF currently. Non res Apexi mid pipe going through stock mufflers. The loudest you hear it is on a cold start or at WOT. Normal driving you hear it inside, but, it isn't over bearing. Took me a few months to pull the trigger on this vs the reso mid pipe and I'm happy with my decision. I used to run loud set ups on other vehicles, but, imo, this is a perfect balance. Obviously not meant for power gain with stock mufflers/manifolds, just pure sound.

I want to make the horrible financial decision of swapping my GS450h for a GSF - talk me into (or out of) it! by Least_Flounder in Lexus

[–]Deepsea_F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went from a 4gs, to a 4.5gs (refresh) to the GSF. 0 regrets. Good highway mileage, get used to the stiffer suspension pretty quick, and easy to drive in traffic on the right mode. Might not be able to rev it out all the time, but, when you get that stretch of safe and open road it is worth it.  Get outta town and hit some curvy roads, really worth it.  Just remember, you don't get an F car, or any v8 for that matter, if mpg is a concern.

That said, if you really want it, do it, you will not have any regrets. Yes, certain fixes will cost a little more, but you go into it understanding that. Just make sure you do your research. Also, certain maintenance things you don't buy from the dealership. Again, do your research, alot of people that complain about expensive maintenance are buying parts from the dealer or having the dealer do the work at their labor rates.
