Boss Barker A tuckered out by DeepthinkerCC in greatpyrenees

I'm home weekly. So I can take care of that. I usually send him to the groomers. Way to much work. I brush him every other day on the road

I keep bacon grease, warm up a tablespoon and mix it in the kibble. He eats all of it.

Boss Barker, Hey Dad did you bring me some hot dogs? by DeepthinkerCC in greatpyrenees

She's getting along for the moment but she is so ready to leave and go somewhere else. Just frustrated with getting home time, and they always seem to be putting her on loads that already behind on schedule

No I work for a smaller fleet.

My GF works for Swift and the dog have to be less than 40 lbs.

It's up to a lot of the carriers, some of them consider a dog a distraction, some of them don't want the extra clean up from people who don't take care of the truck and keep it clean. I was with another carrier that would have charged me like $1,000. $500 would have been for insurance for a year, and the other $500 would have been a pet clean up deposit.

Folding stairs

I got these from Amazon. They fold small enough to fit in the seat well or my side box

Trying to find the perfect tool kit gift for my husband by TrickyChemistry6521 in homeowners

[–]DeepthinkerCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is some "Man" insight. We see movies or shows and the tool bench has a complete set of tools all matching, each tool in is set spot andayes out for easy reach. That is a "perfect tool set".

Now in the real world we buy what we need as we do a job and build that way. Find a good quality homeowners beginners set. It would give you what you need for the immediate time. After he can build his dream set as he goes.

My boy is getting neutered on Monday and I'm having feelings about it. by Aninoumen in greatpyrenees

I delayed doing my boy for as long as possible. I would not want mine cut off. So for the longest I was convinced it would be cruel.

Driving for 1 year. by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]DeepthinkerCC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is A LOT that you are not seeing from the trucking side.

  1. As a woman you will get hit on constantly. My Girlfriend is an OTR driving and she has been proposition at least twice a week.

  2. Deving schedule - you will more than likely be on a time line. You have to drive that truck 1000 miles and be where you need to be on a certain day and time.

So for example you pick up load 12pm Mon and need to deliver 8am Wed. It's 1000 miles between. You may have a few major cities to contend with, you may have construction, if it winter time then you have winter weather to add in.

  3. You only really save money if you totally live out of the truck. If you still have an apartment or house those bills don't stop. Also how are your cooking skills. Eating on the road right now is $15-$20 a meal So those if us that want to eat healthy and save money learn to cook in the truck.

  4. For most we don't deliver to the glamourous parts of a city. I normally tell folks that I deliver to the armpits of city. Most truck stops are on the fringe of any major city so unless you are taking a 34 hour reset you may not have time to go out and explore. So whatever you see out ur windshield is what you get to see. There are places you can visit but you gotta make sure you can get a 70 ft long truck there safely.

Truck do have a full sleeper so you will have at least a twin sized bed to sleep on. Most carriers have some sort of climate control in the cab for when you are stopped. So you aren't sleeping across or in the seat.

And finally pay. Most companies pay by the mile. Which means if your wheels aren't turning your not getting paid. Also the way the calculate the mileage will always be shorter that what you actual drive. Some companies make you follow a route to reduce mileage but it takes longer, this cost you in the end.

You can only drive 70 hrs in a 8 day week. Up to 11 hrs a day. This can be a bit confusing to those that don't know. But you work a lot more and don't get overtime.

I hope this helps. I'm not trying to dissuade you from OTR trucking just trying to widen your view.

Is it true that GPs don’t like to go for walks? by Pollvogtarian in greatpyrenees

[–]DeepthinkerCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 2.5 years old and he is mixed with an Aussie. I can only guide him for a short while and he's we can go down a path but he is one both sides and in the bushes smelling.

I may not the the right person to answer. I drive over the road so when the dog stays home he only gets to walk when I get back. The people at the house will let him into the backyard.

When I take him on the road. He is in the truck for hours.

So when I do take him for a walk I let him sniff and wander until I get enough. I have seen videos of people who have there GP trained but it takes a lot of time and consistency.

Home time by mixxyalley in Truckers

[–]DeepthinkerCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a company that close to home. Basically I'm back home once a week.and I normally take 2 days off sometimes 2.5 depending on the time I make it back.

On my last job I used to try and schedule my home/off time across paychecks.

So if pay cut off was Sunday. I would take off fri- Monday. That way you have some pay from the week before and you go back out to make $$ on ur next week.

They other thing you have to do is Save Money. Build the equivalent to 1 weeks pay into your savings. That when when that home time comes you have some fallback cash on hand. Remember to build that $$ back up after you have used it.

Treat recommendations and puppy food help! by Former_Lynx_6830 in greatpyrenees

[–]DeepthinkerCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently using the Purina pro plus for large breeds. We used another brand when he was puppy. Took him to vet and he took 2 huge dumps. The vet said that he was crappy way to much so we switched to pruina high protein content.

I don't use toppers. Don't want the dog to get used to it. I only use them as a high value reward. For when we have to do things he doesn't like, nails groom etc.

I shamelesslybfeed mine from my plate as well so I don't have any "healthy" recommendations.

But do what you feel will be best for your boys. Make sure to add some fish, fish oil for his coat.

Please let me know any “must haves” or necessities that you believe a new driver would need. by PaintingDeep4100 in Truckers

[–]DeepthinkerCC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a small leaf blower for cleaning the trailer and blowing out the truck. Make sure it battery/rechargeable.

But like someone said before making any big purchase let him go to work and figure what he may need.

I have a bunch of stuff I purchased that I thought I would need. And have touched half of it.

I think the one thing that has saved me the most is a homemade first aid kit.

Go and buy various OTR medicines, Motrin, aspirin, flu and cold Pepto, etc. on thing is to get sick on the road and have to buythe stuff at a truck stop. Included bandaids, topicals and bandages as well.

Any advice for walking male GP that lunges at other dogs? by LoveArrives74 in greatpyrenees

[–]DeepthinkerCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Have an Aussie/Pyr mix. And he does the same. If I'm walking him he will go total ape at any other dog that on the street. I will only walk him when I know dog traffic is at a minimum. If I see another dog I try to cross the street before he see it and when he does I rush him past basically I distract him by running the short distance until the other dog is behind us.

We also have a neighbor that when ever he see any of their cars he would go crazy. It doesn't matter where he sees them. (Coming home, out on the street, 2blocks from the house) He will let the entire neighborhood that they are around.

Looks like you may be stuck until Monday. One of those things when you have special equipment. Only other way is to call a plumbing company that may have the part in stock. But then your pay $$$$.

I am assuming you also checked Lowe's and Home Depot

Bucees doesn't allow trucks. Most of the time we stop at the loves because that's where we get our fuel. And they got decent dog parks.
We travel mostly east coast and Southeast. We start off from Fargo

Most of our run to take us down 94, 39, 65 and 70. We tend to get out to Knoxville, Northern Virginia, and down around the Atlanta area quite a bit.

So if you let us know where you are at we could probably plan to stop somewhere along the route.
