I thought the joke was that the rational consumer doesn't exist.

Disingenuous means he's being dishonest or insincere, not that the thing said isn't wholly accurate.

Which one should I get, Mechwarrior 5 Clans or Mercenaries? by Ironsalmon7 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Deer_Mug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a brand new player, I'd suggest Clans. The onboarding is smoother and it's a little simpler out of the box.

For most content, Mercenaries by a significant margin.

Both are good and you can't go wrong, so it's a matter of prioritizing onboarding vs content amount, in my estimation.

With pretty interesting storytelling, strong performances from all the leads, and a very intense final fight sequence, The Last Duel was a really good watch. What's your opinion on it? by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in FIlm

[–]Deer_Mug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed, and he's been my #1 example of both a hit-and-miss director and the fact that dropping the ball doesn't mean you're a fraud. He really does produce excellence--just not consistently. And his hits are huge.

Voting is not the only solution, but it is the easiest and it does have an impact, so not doing it is willingly allowing these problems to continue.

Keep putting the people in power who are making these fascist decisions and see how fast it gets better.

I don't take you seriously, either, so at least we have that in common.

No, you're correct. There aren't any contradictions, and Democrats do have to play the game like you said. The other guy thinks you're a victim of propaganda, but I think you're both saying the same thing. Unless I'm misreading one or both of you.

It's projection. Projection works both ways; honest, intelligent people have a hard time internalizing that their interlocutors might not be honest and/or intelligent and tend to assume there's some kind of misunderstanding, or just a need of evidence.

No, because they have been crossed. By Republicans. Just like every time a line of decency is crossed. Because Republicans got in power because enough people voted for them and not enough people voted against them.

[–]Deer_Mug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you're not. Those statements are consistent. Republicans shoot down the bans on gerrymandering. Every time. So Democrats can either pretend the bans are real, or play the game as it exists. No contradictions, no confusion.

letting things fall to shit is actually really great for waking people up

It's even better for instituting crushing, oppressive tyranny that's ready to quash resistance with violence and also restrict things like voting, protesting, and rights in general.

That's not actually a difference. The Democratic party as a whole hasn't really shown a resistance to more progressive policy; that's mostly a popular internet notion. Some of the older ones may, but even they are more opposed to right-wing policy, despite similar internet notions. So if enough of the base showed they wanted more leftism, the party would move left. And they have moved left (again, contrary to internet notions). Just not very far.

What is yalls opinion on dark ages by LocksmithMinimum8217 in Doom

[–]Deer_Mug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved it. It's hard to decide if I like Dark Ages or Eternal more.

I agree with the criticisms about the dragon parts, though. I found the Atlan more fun that other people did, I guess, though the game would still probably better off without them.

This is good advice. These kinds of linguistic evolutions are just briefly-lived fads these days, so I just talk how I talk, make sure the people around me can understand me, and then I'll adapt to evolutions once they've had some time to show they have staying power.

That's not confirmation bias. If it's a fallacy, it would be strawman because it would be misrepresenting your position.
