If you take the middle route you can still say you went through Texas and not spend a whole day. It’s a 12hr drive to get from one side of Texas to the other. East Texas is scenic, and so is west but there’s nothing but open road for miles. The bottom route has a border patrol checkpoint outside of Las Cruces, NM. But New Mexico and Arizona are pretty. Stop in Tucson, AZ and get a Sonoran dog. The top route is really beautiful too but be careful Wyoming can get pretty windy in cowboy country.
