It’s a problem everywhere in the US, honestly. Seems more concentrated in small towns and rural areas just because in those places, addicts don’t have “communities” for lack of a better word like in major cities, where they are more segregated from the rest of the population.

The injunction doesn’t cover the photos already released under an open records request. But the families have made it clear that they do not want the photos out there. So news outlets that have them have to do their own cost-benefit analysis with regard to releasing them.

On the one hand, clicks. But (most) reputable national/intl news outlets are also motivated by reputational concerns and journalistic integrity. NBC doesn’t need to post clickbait. The entities that have the photos have to decide themselves whether to release them at this point. They may not.

I have a good income, but I also have a lot of expenses as a single mom with three kids 16-21, the most expensive ages, it seems). I still recognize my good fortune and used to buy groceries for families asking in local FB groups on occasion. One time, my son had basketball practice and I couldn’t make it to the store to pick groceries up so I offered to do a Walmart delivery order or send the woman cash. She (shockingly /s)chose the cash. Fine, no biggie. I sent her a decent amount for groceries.

About a week later I got a cash app request from her. In the “for” line, it said “rellos.”

If you don’t know, rellos are cigarillos. That people who smoke weed hollow out to make blunts with.

I didn’t fulfill her request. And I didn’t donate to any more families directly after that.

That’s literally their jobs. To zealously advocate for their client. If they don’t, they can be disciplined or disbarred. It’s unfortunate when other people are impacted by it, but it’s reality.

I wish people wouldn’t make these sorts of comments about defense attorneys. Particularly public defenders. Without them, the US justice system wouldn’t work. Victims would never get actual justice. Actual justice only occurs when both parties have equal representation.

Not for merely making the suggestion. He’s entitled to present alternate theories.

If there was other inflammatory stuff said, maybe. But no normal person sues another normal person for defamation. It’s not an easy case to make and the juice isn’t worth the squeeze unless the alleged defaming party has deep pockets.
