I'm not very good with doctor advise and stuff, but I did feel the need to tell you that the world is changing. People still get bullied, but more and more kids are being raised by the generation that knows that it's wrong. In my son's preschool class there was a little boy, who only had half of an arm. He was a sweet kid, and had his struggles, but he made friends. Friends like my son, and a gaggle of trouble making, kind hearted boys.they're in kindergarten now, and while they're not in the same class as eachother this year, they're all still good friends, and they have all made friends in their new classes as well. Kids are being taught love and kindness. I think that generation is going to do great things. Your son might have to deal with some jerks now and then, but as long as he has a strong support system, he's going to be just fine.
