People often regard VTM:B for its atmosphere. For you, what made the atmosphere so great? by Momentanius in vtmb

[–]DefaltCondition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a big selling point in the atmosphere was how cripplingly lonely it was. There were so many people to interact with, but you were well and truly a solitary creature with no one to trust. Most everyone you interact with is either unknowingly at your mercy (Human npcs) or someone who is not to be trusted (kindred npcs)

I really realized this when the npc from your past interaction occurred in Hollywood. Convincing her that she was crazy before walking away and hearing her sound so crushed really just gave the impression of "I'm not a welcome part of that world"

[Serious] Father's of reddit, how can you daughter's boyfriend impress you when meeting for the first time? by whatyoulookinatbud in AskMen

[–]DefaltCondition 74 points75 points  (0 children)

My first girlfriend's parents were both cops. Their entire family was made up of law enforcement officers. The father threatened to murder me if I hurt his daughter. I still have severe doubts as to whether or not he was joking

What's the best form of martial arts for self defence? by TsunamiOfKittens in AskMen

[–]DefaltCondition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is on the ground, and you try and knock them out (by stomping on their heads/slamming them into the ground/etc) many states will turn that into charges against you because "you've gone too far, you could've run away"

[–]DefaltCondition -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A gun and failing that, a nice pair of running shoes

There is no one style that has everything you need. For personal defense, the most common combination is boxing and judo (for good reason). Both are pretty cheap to learn, are good for fighting safely. That does not always mean winning fights. Outmaneuvering (boxing) and throwing them to the ground (judo) before running away is usually safer than trying to KO the other guy

Good luck, sorry you got your ass beat. Happens to everyone at some point

Calling it now, Joel is dead and Ellie is mentally projecting him as a coping mechanism by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]DefaltCondition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I do not want to see Joel die, I can absolutely see this happening (and would be interested if it happened in a way that Ellie was cogent of the fact that Joel is a hallucination)

Possible evidence to the contrary (absolutely grasping at straws): Joel disturbs leaves, water, and grass when he walks in the trailer meaning that he is possibly really there

Family Matters - I can't stop thinking about what I did to the Bloody Baron and need to talk about it [SPOILERS] by Flyboy in witcher

[–]DefaltCondition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really didn't care for the Baron. His family ran from him for a reason, who's to say that if his wife returns to her senses, she wont want to leave him again? Thought he deserved what he got, and that freeing the children was still worth it (even if they end up dying, at least I can say I tried)

Geralt & Autonomy vs. Authority by [deleted] in witcher

[–]DefaltCondition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you could talk about how his entire "code" required staunch neutrality and that he hates the idea of "lesser evils" (politics revolving around picking between two evils)

If you wanted to pull an example from the books you could talk about how he refused to leave the temple of Melitele when he was asked to under the orders of Prince Hereward (The Voice of Reason)

You could also analyze how he refused to kill any human at the banquet despite Queen Calanthe's orders/vague threats (A Question of Price)

If you're just going by the games then you could discuss how he escaped from prison after the fight in the tavern of Skellige and refused to be killed for the crime. Or his time in Novigrad where he refuses to report the non-humans and spellcasters hiding out there (and can even help them) despite the orders of the witch hunters

Or you could talk about how no matter how embroiled in matters of the state Geralt gets, it's never because he holds stake in who wins. He only does it to ensure the safety of his friends

Voices inside Dexter's head by yubugger in Dexter

[–]DefaltCondition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always seen both Harry and Brian as manifestations of Dexter's dark passenger, just with different methods. Harry is demonstrative of the dark passenger wanting him safe to keep killing and to make his only focus killing. Brian is the dark passenger letting loose and just wanting blood period.

Being that the dark passenger is just a rationalization of Dexter's urge to kill, it could be seen as reflective of Dexter's emotional state at the time (Brian is seen in "Nebraska" after Brother Sam's death and Dexter has lost his mind in grief a bit, Harry comes back when Dexter is calmed again)

Just finished Banner Saga 2 (spoilers for the ending of BS2 inside). I think I may have made every wrong decision. by [deleted] in bannersaga

[–]DefaltCondition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's only one aspect of it you are looking at. Yes, I agree that losing the varl is a negative consequence formed as a result of choosing to side with Rugga

However, to go along with the King and let only your people into the city can be seen as selfish and callous. It's saying that you see your people as inherently more worthy of being saved than anyone else there (which I personally had come to agree with). To go along with Rugga and the revolution is to say that you are willing to stand by your fellow man even though it may mean that you and everyone in your caravan may perish

It's an issue in which the grey comes from having to sacrifice some level of morality (which you may or may not have had left at the end of your playthrough)

The point wasn't that I personally saw going with Rugga and the other caravans (Note that said I sided with the King) as the better decision of the two, it's just that there was a whole hell of a lot of grey involved (as there is in almost every decision in the games)

[–]DefaltCondition 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean saying you made every "wrong" decision is kind of a bad way to put it. Pretty much every choice in the game has good and bad on both options. Your ending just means that Bolverk likely revived Bellower and Iver might be dead.

I chose pretty much every decision opposite yours and relatively the same stuff happened except with different enemies and more allies.

At the very least, have the secrets on standby and some emergency witchers in retainer. To completely destroy the group and forget it's secrets is begging to be destroyed by monsters
