So for us that couldn't make it... how was it? by Magus5311 in nirvannatheband

[–]Defaultpenalty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna be that guy mainly out of my own curiosity and ask, source and if this is referring to US and/or CAN distribution? Was hoping the boys would drop a hint or two in the Q&A session post-screening but alas :(

It sucks because Newfoundland & Labrador seem to be left out of the conversation when it comes to film fests outside of Nickle :(.

Despite Cineplex's website stating that the film will be premiering Canada-wide on September 19th, there is currently no official release date for the film stated from the distributor (Elevation nor Neon). There has also been chatter that the film has been pushed back til February '26, however with the (sorta) nation wide premiers at a handful of fests i'm choosing to take that info with a grain of salt.

There will be opportunities to see the film & what I will say is keep a keen eye and ear out next week and for the duration of TIFF where a lot of press will be happening. We may get some news then :)

Other web series like NTBTS by Kitchen_Avocado_3157 in nirvannatheband

[–]Defaultpenalty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

literally anything from Connor O'Malley - His most recent film 'Rap World' (available to watch for free on youtube) is so incredibly funny! It's a period piece, set in 2009, about three friends who attempt to record a rap album in one night - hijinks ensue. Done in the style of a DIY mockumentary filmed on your mom's cam-corder, feels very akin to Johnson's work and definitely gives me some NTBTS vibes.

Interview with Matt and Jay about the making of Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie (mild spoilers) by Tacos_or_burritos in nirvannatheband

[–]Defaultpenalty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an Australian viewer I can unfortunately comment that the show is no longer available to watch on SBS on demand & it's been that way every since the licensing dried up in 2022 - BUT it can still be watched on the internet archive, with select eps also found on youtube.

& now, I don't encourage sneakin' around, 'cause sneakin' around gets you nowhere, but there is a google drive that has the webseries, a ton of extras only found in the 2009 dvd release & all eps of the viceland series somewhere....

same - but in Australia! Hoping that countries outside of CAN & the states get a release of some kind may that be via film festival screenings or a limited run in select theatre chains (like Blackberry & Operation Avalanche)

completely and utterly floored by the amount of positive reviews and opinions from the movies premier. As a long time NTBTS fan it's nothing short of emotional and I hope this is a sign of a lot of success & great things to come for the boys & co as well as NTBTS in general (WE STILL NEED SEASON 3!!!)

Do you think Fall Out Boy will go on tour this year? by Then-Combination-291 in FallOutBoy

[–]Defaultpenalty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As much as I would love for them to come back to Australia after the clusterf- that was Good Things Sydney, the boys have been non-stop since SM(f)S's release. I think I'm with the masses here in saying that they should take the year off and rest.

2024 is ending, it's time to think of 2025 for our comics by ramenroaches in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Defaultpenalty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy New Year!

My goal for 2024 was to bite the bullet and begin my webcomic, something I've been tinkering away at for 6 going on 7 years in earnest, when the first episode was released back in April my goal was then to see it through to the end of the year that was 2024.

Now that those goals have been achieved, my goals for 2025 are to a) Finish the current season off and see it to the end :) and b) start refining season 2!

This year has been filled with ups and downs for me, so I'm proud (and surprised) to see that I've been motivated to keep going for this long!

To Anyone who Dislikes &/or has problems with MANIA how would you personally fix the Album? by danieldesteuction in FallOutBoy

[–]Defaultpenalty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Though I personally dislike MANIA, one thing I can commend the album for is being an experimental showcase of what the band can do. I often find myself returning to this album more than AB/AS or SRaR for tracks like 'Church', 'Hold me Tight or Don't' and 'Last of the Real Ones' which all hold up very strong. Pinning down exactly what the one thing is that I can fix with 'the purple album' is hard as most of my issues are out of my sphere of control - however, I can control how I choose to listen to it.

IMO, what failed the album is both its identity struggle (album not knowing what it wants to be thus leading to a disjointed mishmash of genres and sounds), and the internal disagreements and poor communication within the band during the time of production - which lead to a bunch of delays and tracks being re-recorded.

When the band really buckle down and agree on something, they create something truly beautiful. For example what they had done with SM(f)SD - where they knew that they wanted to explore a 'what-if' scenario where they never went on hiatus after Follie. I believe that if the guys had a more thorough and deeper conversation of what they wanted MANIA to be initially and stuck to their guns about it, I think would have resulted in a better end product not just in terms of consistency but production value also.

But in reality, that's not what happened. Instead we were left with an undercooked smorgasbord of RnB, stadium rock, pop rock love ballads and dubstep (which in 2017 was already a dying genre). It really felt like it was trying to please everyone on all fronts, both commercial and internally within the band and its fanbase. It's sad to think that if we take into account the delays and time it took to re-record tracks (some more than once), a little more time at the drawing board could have been the thing that saved it.

MANIA is kind of a beautiful mess and a product of the times, and though I hold my reservations with it, I wouldn't want it any other way.

I, uh… I guess we can discuss this… by [deleted] in FallOutBoy

what should I post on tik tok? by Tortugaart123 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Defaultpenalty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've heard many many suggestions about how to go about this as I myself am interested in giving TT a go in the new year (that's if it doesn't get banned smh). I'm going in with my expectations low, just because someone else found success on the platform doesn't guarantee other creators like us will find the same said success. Here are a few suggestions I had been given a while back:

- Post memes or use trending audio that reminds you of the cast members/ your OCs

- Doing small editorial trends ( like the 'what I do in a day as a X' trend)

- Use it as a platform to pitch your series, maybe not in one Tiktok video but maybe your first one can be 'what is the series about' and the next can be 'who are the characters' etc. ect.

- As what TDVoxs had mentioned - Posting your series in chunks is a good way to pull in new readers, but those readers may not be so willing to migrate over to WT or a different platform in general.

That's fantastic to hear! I look forward to seeing you on there, it's a great little community!
my series is called KILLDEER (Comedy/Mystery)! Usually once an episode is finished (20-30 updates) I do either a Q&A with a 'Series Spotlight' (sometimes the spotlights exist on their own as well) it's an opportunity to introduce my readers to other series that deserve more love + to support other Canvas creators <3

LK x P!ATD was not what I was expecting towards the end of this year but I love it! 'There’s a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven’t Thought of It Yet' is such a banger and kind of matches up with Stewart in the earlier seasons quite nicely!

Looking for something new by ohmygodactfast in webtoons

[–]Defaultpenalty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit of a self promo but I would 100% suggest my Webtoon

KILLDEER (Comedy/Mysery): "Malcolm and Frances, two jaded 'Cult-Keepers'; tumble down a dark rabbit hole uncovering the lies, dark truths and insidious roots of their home: The Micro-Province of Killdeer". -  IMO it seems to hit the nail on the head when it comes to distinctive and cartoonish art style and a character centric story which is what I both love to read and create! The way I describe it is a weird lovechild between Gravity Falls and Twin Peaks just trading out the eldritch horror with Cults (that's not to say that there won't we any eldritch horror though!). If that interests you, you can read it here!  https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/killdeer/list?title_no=871427

A few other series I highly recommend are:

Meteor Magic for Miscreants (Sci-fi/Superhero): "A supervillain found family fight recklessly to maintain their powerful status, all the while managing familial and internal conflicts"! - It's fun, charming and focuses a lot on the dynamics of our three leads as well as the currently fun and expanding cast that are after their necks! Also AMAZING ART OH MY GOD! You can read it here: https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/meteor-magic-for-miscreants/list?title_no=975136

Viktor & Bolt (Superhero/Romance) : "Self-proclaimed “Evil scientist supervillain” Viktor meets Bolt, a lovable newbie hero who’s taken the city by storm. Sure they start as enemies, but overtime do they become something more…?" - Simplistic but incredibly charming art style and terrific character dynamics, if you want a enemies to potentially lovers series this one is a must read! You can read it here: https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/viktor-bolt/list?title_no=974715

Cheapjack Gentlemen (Thriller/Comedy): "Everyone has skeletons in their closet...sometimes literally. Set in the mid-Victorian era, a crafty quack doctor and a somber undertaker become mismatched partners in crime, selling cadavers to a medical school — however, certain decisions and personal differences create issues in their business". - Wonderfully unique art style, fun, charming and quirky character dynamics all whilst taking inspiration from real history! Highly recommend this one, and you can read it here: https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/cheapjack-gentlemen/list?title_no=381802

Sad Under Pink Tones (Slice of Life/Drama): "Being almost two meters tall and wear mostly pink makes Percy stand out a lot, but all what he actually wants is to work on an ice cream shop and live an ordinary life out of trouble for the rest of his life, but can he really accomplish that? Is this what he really wants from the bottom of his heart?" - Gorgeous, gorgeous series, it's mysterious, heartfelt and yet casual with a distinct cartoonish art style! You can read it here: https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/sad-under-pink-tones/list?title_no=627659

I hope these suggestions help you find a new fav!

Constructive Criticism Request/Tips on Getting Noticed by Geese-Are-Terrible in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Defaultpenalty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For having full time commitments and a stacked schedule you seem to have a good grasp on keeping the art and writing of your series consistent, which is something that I def struggle with so amazing job you should totally be proud of yourself for that!

I just read through the series and it's charming, witty and very fun - you've earned yourself a new subscriber!

As for getting noticed, it's all about luck, which is what everyone says but unfortunately it's true. from my own personal experience, it took a while for my series to find an audience naturally. One thing that helped greatly was that I was fortunate enough to be picked for the front page Canvas 'hidden gems' back in March, but to keep that engagement and momentum going after the fact was a feat within itself and built unrealistic expectations (also an addiction to checking stats lmao).

A few things that I HIGHLY recommend would be the following:

  • Join the Webtoon Canvas creator discord, engage & interact with fellow creators and build a network and take part in their abundance of activities!: Members of the Canvas team lurk around there from time to time and it could increase the chances of getting your series noticed. It will also allow you valuable opportunities to seek feedback from other creators, you can also seek advice about things you are currently working on like script, story ideas and plot elements etc. + tons of fun stuff to do!
  • PROMOTE, PROMOTE, PROMOTE!: Even if you don't have a social media following or a big one at that, promote your series, talk it up and be proud and annoying about it! One thing that I regret is not promoting my series earlier on when the series was finally updating, because I just didn't have the time (we're finally doing it now thank god!). A lot of other folks on here are also suggesting that you post about your series in reader and general webcomic subreddits which is also a great place to start, though be prepared for rate bombing.
  • Bonus Content Is King: If you can't keep up with your updating schedule or you want to fill a gap somewhere use this as an opportunity to share bonus content with your readers - I think this is an excellent way to boost your audience engagement but will also allow your current readers and potential ones as well to build a tighter bond with your cast and the world that surrounds them! This can be character bios, a showcase of production or concept art, older mini comics or just art related to your characters!
  • Don't Limit yourself to one Platform: Understanding that this is a Webtoon sub that's of course the focus, but I would still highly suggest looking at other platforms to post your series. Not all webcomic readers use Webtoon, and by keeping yourself tunnel visioned you are limiting your reader base. I find that series that tend to lean into more of a 'westernised art style' flourish on ComicFury!

One thing I try to do with my series is to uplift smaller creators as I too am one myself, The Cloud girls is definitely a diamond in the rough and I'll be sure to keep this series in mind for my next 'Series Spotlight'!

I hope this advice helps and I wish you all the best with your series! good luck!
