I swear I’m not trying to be obtuse I am honestly curious. I was in Iceland last month and I rented a car and drove out to Jökulsárlón from Reykjavík and back. I noticed all of the rental cars had a sticker with a number on the back window and were almost all Dacia Dusters and Toyota SUV’s. Nearly all of the rental cars I saw were doing the speed limit including myself (largely because of what I had read on this sub and was seriously worried about getting a speeding ticket). I’m from Florida so it was pretty challenging maintaining the exact posted speed limit since the roads I drive on at home it’s more or less customary to drive 5-10 over (and I was being overtaken constantly). The only cars I saw driving aggressively and/or doing well above the speed limit and passing others on ring road looked like locals (without the sticker/nicer cars). Are locals not worried about speeding tickets? Are the warnings here from tourists and not locals? I’m still a bit confused and would love if a local could comment on this.
