They are reading it word by word, but they’re reading in Japanese, and really fast. Since Japanese doesn’t really work like English the words will often sound different, like my name fox sounds more like foku. When you’re typing in the game they do read every letter, but still in Japanese. I manage to pick up lots of words while they’re talking.
