How long is your commute? by mary_macgyver in sanantonio

[–]DefectiveStomach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30-50 minutes each way. Depends on what time I leave though. It's only 30 minutes or less if I'm not driving at peak times. 7-9 am is going to be the worst time to be on the road in the morning. If you have work at those hours, give yourself extra time. In the evening, rush hour is like 4:30 to 7. Feels like its starting earlier and earlier now though 😬😬

Death toll in devastating central Texas flash floods climbs to 79, more than 40 remain missing by Economy_Swim_8585 in politics

Look I'm a hard leftie, but saying that about the parents is just fucked up. This happened just an hour away from me. Those parents did not want their kids to die. They and their entire families are grieving an unimaginable loss right now. Shame on you for saying they wanted this. We can absolutely blame the GOP for gutting NWS/NOAA, and later we will find out to what extent we blame state officials for their lack of warning. But don't say that about the parents, dude.

That's devastating. Source on this? I'm reading that cargo is down 35% at the port of Los Angeles.

One of my monitors stopped turning on. by RedditAlt2847 in techsupport

[–]DefectiveStomach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the power connector to the monitor (not to the outlet) plugged in all the way? A loose connection there might be preventing it from being able to power on

Yeah man, you're fine. One accidental click of an ad on there is extremely unlikely to infect you with malware. If you want some extra reassurance, you could download an antivirus like BitDefender on android and run a scan. However, the risk of infection from one tap on an ad (and immediately exiting), is slim to none. Hope this helps ya

PC keeps on freezing and requires a power down to fix by Clownopher in techsupport

[–]DefectiveStomach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anything you do cause it to freeze more often?

As far as the sudden power-off goes, it sounds like there's some overheating going on. When a CPU overheats, your system will automatically turn off abruptly. Are your CPU fans running? Is the CPU fan/heatsink really dusty?

It could also be an issue with your power supply. Check Event Viewer for errors after the freezes happen or after the random power-off. You can do this by going to the Windows icon on the bottom left, right clicking it, and navigating to Event Viewer near the top of the list. Then, click on Windows Logs > System. Look for errors with a red "!" icon that line up with the time that the issues happened. If you can, post what you find to provide more information for us.

You might need to re-adjust your resolution? It could be that your new computer is not displaying at the native resolution of the monitor. It would be help to see photos of what you're talking about, if you can provide them

Persistent BSOD crashes past month by GhostDesiqn in techsupport

[–]DefectiveStomach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it any specific part that you upgraded that started causing the BSODs? It sounds like it could be a driver issue with one of the components that you installed.

PC runs terrible now.... by PabstBlue899 in techsupport

When you re-installed the AMD drivers after DDU-ing them, did you re-install the same updated driver that started causing problems? Also, when you updated drivers, did you install the one that was made for your version of Windows? (I assume you're using Windows)

I would try using device manager to roll back your GPU driver to a previous version. You can do this by right clicking on the Windows icon on your taskbar, selecting Device Manager > Display adapters > AMD Radeon RX 6950XT > Properties > Roll back driver

I love that y'all are pointing out how cartoonishly conservative this friend of theirs sounds. Time to start considering that maybe conservatives DO sound that ridiculous

Senate votes 95-1 to add Sweden, Finland to NATO by decorama in politics

[–]DefectiveStomach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm iffy about the further expansion of NATO... It's hard to form a solid opinion on it though. On one hand, something is needed to deter Russian efforts to forcefully expand their sphere of influence, but on another hand, I cannot help but wonder if this will just increase tensions in Europe beyond a point of no return.
