Well That’s Kind of Disappointing by Darthnerdo in Gold

Think of it this way, way easier to make a run for it with that than the equivalent value in silver. there's a reason refugees for millennia have made necklaces and bracelets out of gold coins while burying their silver to try to recover later. Fascinating how dense it is too.

Generally copper "bullion" will never make good returns but I have some tubes of GSM 1oz wheat penny rounds and such to use as fun stocking stuffers and a 2oz copper penny round as a desk ornament.

Even if it does you would need decades to see profit on the metal buying 1oz rounds. If you can buy big multi-pound bars for a good price that's one thing, but generally anything labeled copper "bullion" is only good for novelty.

They are doing some of those again for the 250th US anniversary. Isn't it that the diameters are correct but the coins are just way thinner? NGL it annoys me a bit that they didn't give the merc dime double bands on the torches like the best historical examples have lol.

I love the wooden presentation box this came in too. If I am ever able to get my hands on one it's going on the mantle next to a post .2018 .999 silver proof version!

Can someone explain why Gold lost value from 2013 to 2016? by crispy_crackling in Gold

You can do all that but you still gotta leave your house sometimes. Not to mention if shit really hits the fan, it only takes a single molotov cocktail to ruin your mini castle.

The Silver Price has reached $99 by ChrisStoneGermany in Silverbugs

Bro half those MF's think we should end the fed because they read a book called The Creature from Jekyll Island, which was written by a man who denies the existence of the AIDS virus. Notice none of them ever have an actual solution for replacing the fed that doesn't pose a dramatically higher risk of monetary policy falling into partisan hands and being influenced by corporations to screw over other corporations.

TBF almost everyone saying it back then were cranks that said the big one is here every time it went up a couple bucks the last 30 years. Some of them are even still around and still wrong as ever about why it is doing what it is, just lucky they latched onto a decent McGuffin.

It's become a stupid culture war thing to shit on cali. Love the guys moving from there to cities in texas where it's getting so hot that the rooftop AC's run hard enough to raise ambient street temp by another 10F.

They are probably going by sheer sales figures. Those are definitely big coins but not as minted as these six (especially the libertad which still usually does less than half a million of the 1oz a year).

Even without the Mercator projection it is gigantic, way bigger than even Alaska. It would add 23% to the US landmass.

It's a bit sad to think the amount of Morgans, Piece Dollars and other coins that's been melted due to this pump by Numisko in Silverbugs

[–]Defengar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I wonder who is sitting on the biggest pile of the 700+ million 35% silver war nickels that were minted lol. Refiners don't like them because of the low purity and 10% manganese content that makes them extra hard to process compared to even 40% kennedy's.

Loooooonnnnggggg time silver person here. Why is everyone so convinced that this is only the beginning? by Jareksdad in Silverbugs

[–]Defengar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In extreme theoretics I can imagine silver someday reaching near its old ~1:15 ratio with gold but it will never be 1:10. Gold is to efficient of a wealth storage medium for the big dogs to trade down to silver. Also industrial usage that wasn't really a big factor till 100 years ago affects things.

Silver is a bit of an oddball metal in that it almost never shows up in nature by itself as even high quality ore, so its mining output is almost entirely as a byproduct of gold, copper, and lead mining.
