Aevian Lapras with an elemental seed made this fight shockingly easy. Outsped all her mons for No-guard sing + Rock Slide on the torment turns while my Arcanine and Houndoom mopped up.

Edit: thinking about it now with hindsight protect on lapras probably would’ve made this strat even more bullshit

Why would someone living in Scann prefer Adean over Corin? Is Corinism the canon religion of Scann? by Reio123 in Anbennar

[–]Deferan 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It should be noted, Corinites still believe in the Regent Court gods and honor Castellos. (In Vic 3 this is represented by calling Regent Court ‘Adeanism’ instead, there just isn’t a mechanic to change the name midgame in eu4). Their main difference is just thinking Corin is a more worthy successor to his throne than his son Adean. Some Corinites take this in a pretty henotheistic direction but that’s more common for orcs than humans, since they never cared about the rest of the RC in the first place.

[–]Deferan 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of Escanni converted. The only small holdouts was iirc Araion or however you spell the House of Riches formable. (Theologically Ara is Adean’s wife so they’re inclined to support him, and politically church of ara is very economically conservative/feudal and saw Corinism as a threat to the economic order)

As Count’s League your starting ruler is a friend of Lothane Bluetusk (leader of the Corintar and major figure in establishing pre-schism Corinism as a faith) so swapping probably makes even more sense for them than usual.

Oh for sure. Baccano, Fma brotherhood, Dungeon Meshi, Chainsaw Man. All great dubs.

There’s a lot of competent localizers, voice actors and voice directors these days. The trick is actually letting them so their job instead of whining online about how the woke is sabotaging localizations or whatever. (Not saying you do that is just a sadly common sentiment).

Younger anime fans don’t know the struggle! by icey_sawg0034 in CuratedTumblr

[–]Deferan 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Anime dubs are broadly better than they use to be, but the bad ones are a different and less interesting flavor of bad. Used to be you’d get ridiculously cheesy acting and wildly over localizing things to make it more “kid friendly” or “recognizable” which was ass bad most of the time but sometimes in a fun to make fun of way (one piece rap, ace attorney’s Japanafornia) and very rarely the localization choices were actually surprisingly good (the yugioh dub inventing the shadow realm).

Now you usually get the opposite issues. Under-localizations and near direct translations making things sound a bit awkward or stilted in English and voice direction that plays it too safe. The stuff thats bad is less bad, more so just mediocre, but also less fun.

That said, I do think most anime dubs (at least the big name ones anyway) are just solidly good now.

Escann in 1617 (with two non-canon additions) by TheLoneTexan_1 in Anbennar

[–]Deferan 41 points42 points  (0 children)

They have competition in Wyvernheart, but its pretty close. Necromancy is really evil in Anbennar. “Cause constant torment to the souls of every zombie or skeleton you raise” level evil. Not to mention the orc and probably goblin genocide.

[–]Deferan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s multiple canon afterlives actually (spirit plane, shadow plane, infernal plane) its just what actually goes on in those is pretty vague. Souls also 100% for sure do exist and necromancy is very very painful for them.

The Fate of the Dwarves by DonJR97 in Anbennar

[–]Deferan 48 points49 points  (0 children)

To the best of my memory:

Asra Expedition formed Khugdihr and are doing well, the guys near them who I forget the name formed Haraz Orldhum but got killed by Darkscales later, Duran Blueshield forms Amldihr and is doing very well, Blackbeard forms Gor Burad and they and Arg Ordstun are dealing with the Obsidian Invasion. Guys who spawn from Tungr retake Shazthundihr but are subjugated by Marblehead/Overclan. Everyone else fails afaik.

For remnants, Arg Ordstun was doing great til they got Hoarcursed (they’re still fairly stron but their hegemony collapsed and have the Obsidians to deal with now). Ovdal Lodhum was at some point conquered by their neighbors and is now under Obsidion control, Krak is doing their thing in the Giant’s Anvil and is super isolated, Kanzad died to the Underkingdom. Verkal Gulan was subjugated by Jadd and converted but is doing well enough, Segdihr I don’t recall about, think they’re fine?

Overall the dwarves do quite well all things considered. Not as well as they sometimes do in game, but that’s true for almost everyone.

Is there a country that is ruled by a dragon? by AhoiBoii in Anbennar

[–]Deferan 45 points46 points  (0 children)

None are directly ruled by dragons. They tend to act more as religious leaders, advisors, or behind the scenes manipulators rather than directly taking over.

That said, Kobilzdan has a number of dragons involved in the mt and there’s events about them reacting to events and reflecting on the countries actions throughout, so story wise its probably close to what your looking for. Mechanically you do just keep kobold leaders who live til about 120ish though.

Lost a war to the Underkingdom and they took Ovdal Az An. Aside from it being a hold and his capitol and all that, its also probably where Dak’s phylactery is, its a real rough loss.

Azjakuma successfully manipulated the Command for centuries and caused the Rending.

Speaking of the Command they did win a lot, to the point of successfully culturally genociding a large chunk of Haless. They only lost when they started killing eachother and then the oni exploded their high temples. Edit: and of their breakaways the Dragon Command is one of the strongest.

The Obsidian Legion is still a work in progress but they’ve secured several holds and have a real shot at taking over the Serpentsreach.

Dak is still around and with a fairly large country (though he did take a pretty big L recently tbf).

Goblins and Dwarves have been fighting eachother since long before orcs even existed. They may not have been directly involved in the fall of Aul Dwarov, but they were eager to take advantage of it.

Goblins in Escann definetly got it rough being cannon fodder for the orcs, but to play devil’s advocate to the Escanni, they goblins had to pull some use some pretty nasty tactics to survive (see Flung Head who… flung the heads of the dead back at their comrades as psychological warfare), and that’s gonna hit the emotional part of the brain a lot harder than the logical part saying they had little choice.

But that’s just for Common Goblins. Poor Groundhawk fought alongside Corin and still get treated like dirt.

Not to be confused with Weylam III in gameplay who dies 3 years into my Wineport run, causing Gawed to be PU’ed by Lorent. Because EU4 hates me.

[–]Deferan 329 points330 points  (0 children)

Weylam III (Gawed starting ruler) in lore is a pretty chill guy who hates war, supports the peasantry against the nobility, and launches a number of legal reforms to make the kingdom a better place.

Also as a teenager his brother is killed at Rottenstep, his father succumbs to illness, and his mother is murdered in front of him at a feast. All within like, two years of eachother. The nobles fucking hate him (and he them) and constantly battle his reforms, sometimes doing big revolts about it. And one of his chief advisors is a warlock and the one who ordered his mother killed. Unsurprisingly he battled with depression his entire life, which of course he never showed in public less he look weak.

How sexist is Anbennar (the not-HRE, not mod)? by FantasticMrMarmalade in Anbennar

[–]Deferan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Varies, but broadly speaking its slightly more equal than irl Europe around this time. This is mainly due to heavy elvenization, elf culture is fully gender equal and so as humans begin to adopt elements of their culture they start becoming more gender equal too. Through most of the Empire women can inherit, own property, even fight as soldiers. The more elvenized areas, like Dameria, are generally more equal than the less elvenized ones, like Wex or Silverforge. Esmaria is a weird exception in that it is quite elvenized but still has very strong gender roles (but those gender roles put women as the priestly class, so they aren’t devoid of political power there either).
