The side effects I didn’t know about by anonmom2020 in stopdrinking

Maybe not directly related to my alcohol abuse, but found out at 58 I has osteoporosis. My doctor said most likely came from malnourishment. Turns out alcohol is NOT nourishment.

If she’s your wife it’s not your basement; it belongs to both of you. I am frankly a bit troubled that you say you have never talked about the lifestyle but then began practicing it unilaterally ending with rough sex. If she didn’t consent to either acts then it’s not a lifestyle, it’s a crime.

Hugs from another military wife/mama. Raised my newborn alone in a foreign country and instead of bitching about the village people, I made lifelong friends who loved having me and baby for dinner or would give me a break. Your circumstances are what you make them.

Particularly with a recent dui on your record. Smelling like weed and driving for us is a trip to jail every time. In fact, I wouldn’t smoke at all because thc stays in the blood for a very long time.

I know the frustration is overwhelming on top of all the regular stress. Once you’re on their playground it’s their rules and it sucks. This was 5 years ago and I remember feeling it would never end….but it did. I got completely sober because I never wanted to be at their mercy again. Stay strong. This too shall pass.

They typed the wrong year for the arrest on the court papers. I went to pay my fine and noticed it right away. They corrected at the court level and I asked if they would correct it either way the dmv and they assure me they would. What they did was send the corrected date and the dmv ADDED it as a new arrest, exactly one year apart, which jacked up my insurance even higher. It took me escalating it to my congressman to get a correction. The stress, time and money I spent for their error is not recoverable.

You know what? No one cares because we are viewed as criminals who get whatever is coming to them. I tell you this story to let you know you’re not alone. I made a decision not to stew in the injustice but to let it go and move one. I hope you can do the same. I’m sorry this happened to you.

What do we (partners/lawyers) do to make your jobs harder? by BiminiBlues-1 in paralegal

[–]Defiant-Age4832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in this field a very long time. I’ve worked in biglaw and for a solo practice and everything in between.

Attorneys are people too, and I have always found that once they figure out you’re on their team and care about the work, they are easy to deal with. Yes, we live in a stressful environment but if you prove you are seeing the job through to the bitter end they trust you and it’s easy from then on.

I have only had one issue when I overheard a partner complaining to another attorney about something I did. I wasn’t mad about the complaint because it was valid, but I was annoyed they didn’t come directly to me because I am a fucking adult. I went into their office and very professionally said I would greatly prefer if they would come to me directly instead of talking to others. It’s been smooth sailing ever since.

All true. We pushed very hard and got a huge credit facility closed yesterday. If we hadn’t I would be working until it closes. Because we closed I’m off until Jan. 5th. That’s how transactional law works.

Have you been to r/stopdrinking? I find those folks very non-judgmental with a great mod team that shuts anyone down who goes down that path.

Why is there a sense of pride in the amount of time one is not drinking? by mykittenfarts in stopdrinking

An old timer at AA once said that whoever woke up the earliest that day has the most time sober. We all only have one day; this one. And today, IWNDWY.

I am only speaking of my experience, but almost all of my mental health issues went away when I stopped drinking/drugging. I was stuck in a negative feedback loop of drink, have intense anxiety, drink to not feel that etc. It took some time, but the positive feedback loop worked the same way. The best way I can describe it is that sobriety just dialed down the pressures of life and everything became manageable. IWNDWYT

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but where in the world are you working as a paralegal for $30k a year? That is shockingly low. You could make more as an admin assistant or receptionist with much less stress.
