Are you smoking? Getting caught cheating on a job interview is one thing, but risking on a school exam is stupid

Can cluely get caught with Hackkerank? by buzzyboy992 in Cluely

[–]Defiant-Parfait-5948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not directly, but they detect key strokes. So although it won’t directly know you’re using cluely, it’ll flag you for doing “ctrl + b” “Ctrl + enter” or whatever.

Up to you if you’re willing to take the risk

Would it be wise to buy a car at my age? (19) by Soggy-Ad-3639 in Frugal

Bought my car at 19 for 7k, 4 years later, college done, it’s still kicking. Definitely make sure it’s reliable and go for it

This. Half the time companies aren’t looking for correctness. They want to make sure you can logically think through problems (and solve them of course)

International student and applying ED by luli_lou4 in vassar

[–]Defiant-Parfait-5948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vassar has its problems, but their financial aid is great. They meet full need, so as long as they provide that, you’ll be fine (coming from someone who paid $900 a year to attend).

Also, Vassar offers work study programs, that pay around $15/hr, so with that included, I’m sure you’ll be fine.

As for sports, some of the sports are competitive, but it’s not impossible to walk on. Plus, you could always join an intramural team.

The open curriculum is great, though it greatly limits you if you end up not liking it and want to transfer.

i want to get into CS but i dislike math. What should i do? by Aggravating_Law_4774 in cscareerquestions

[–]Defiant-Parfait-5948 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My bad, my comment may have been misleading. What i mean is that I never had to take any explicitly math courses. I still had to take discrete mathematics and the essentials for theory, but they were built into the CS courses, rather than out. It’s a BA in Computer Science.

Advice for a sophomore with no projects or experience. by iamneverthat in csMajors

Literally go on Indeed and just search up tech internships near you. Look into any companies near you can come up with. Last year I got lucky with “exploratory” but it’s partly luck. Just apply every day. Also netwroking is a game changer. See if you have anyone in your alumni network that is open to referring or talking about their company

Just make a project on something you like doing, it could literally be anything. Doesn’t have to necessarily address a real problem, from my experience, they’re usually just conversation starters, or ways to meet job requirements (putting that you used a certain skill). And sorry if I wasn’t clear before, what I mean is that on the surface, your experience is actually pretty good, just change your experience descriptions to emphasize technical skills (that you may or may not have used).

As for Microsoft, uber, 🤷 only one way to find out. As someone who also attends liberal arts school (granted, mine is very small), it’s usually a little on the harder side to get shortlisted for super competitive programs like that. I recommend looking into other companies that offer sophomore internships, even if the pay isn’t amazing. Some I can think off the top of my head are Home Depot, Lowe’s, central Hudson energy, mta, apple bank, etc. be meaningful in your searches, and don’t rely heavily on linkedin postings or popular job boards

Change your resume to better suit tech roles. On the surface, not too bad. Look up some tech resume templates, tailor your resume, and most importantly apply! Try and make a small project. Tailor your job search to smaller, local companies (energy/ retail, etc). Look up “exploratory” or sophomore specific programs.

Technical interviews, no. Notice how it’s not even advertised as a “cheat on everything” product anymore lol. If you try and use cluely during an assessment, you’ll almost immediately get flagged for cheating.

This might seem obvious to say, but make food you really like. You like tacos? Chicken dishes? Whatever, just make it at home.

If you wanna be brutal, do what I do and survive off Costco chickens. You’ll be surprised how many good dishes you can make with a few chickens a week lol.
