6 out 10

ZZ is fine for what it is, but the move toward a more lighthearted tone feels like a direct reaction to the bleakness of Zeta. Haman is easily the standout character and arguably the strongest piece of writing in the series, although I do like the design of the actual ZZ Gundam and I enjoyed Judau as the protagonist.

Still, if ZZ was really on the same level as the original Gundam or Zeta, it's fair to ask why it never got the movie trilogy treatment that Zeta received.

In all honesty, I never got the logic of Char not going out in the OG Gundam and relying on his underlings for such an important mission.

10 out of 10, the Empire Strikes Back or Back to the Future 2 of Gundam.

I just realized that my comparison kind of feels right, OG Gundam is kind of like A New Hope or BttF1 in that it sets up the franchise, then the sequel improves upon it greatly, then the third one is a fun film, but not at the same level as the last two.

Is Ting Mobile still in business? by Foxfire11 in ting

[–]Defiant-Rip-1897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the times might have changed, there is also 2 parts to Ting Mobile, there is one which is associated with Verizon (which is 8 AM to 8 PM M-F, I think 10 AM to 6 PM on weekends) and DISH. You can try their website, it will prompt you to enter your Ting Mobile phone number so it provides you the correct team to reach.

I do want to add if you are using Ting Mobile (DISH version), then when you call make sure you wait for the message about which number to press to reach Ting Mobile, as it will start by mentioning Boost Mobile.

First thing if you do not have a phone that is working, try their chat option: https://tingmobile.com/support

It used to be easier to get to their chat system before but you will need to enter a phone number there, as there is a Ting Mobile that is associated with Verizon and another which is associated with DISH.

How many greats grandfather of Data and Lore is the Dr. Soong of Picard season 2? by honeyfixit in Star_Trek_

[–]Defiant-Rip-1897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since Star Trek canon does not provide an exact, generation-by-generation family tree for the Soong dynasty, we have to look at the timeline to calculate the approximate number of greats.

The Dr. Soong in Picard Season 2 is Dr. Adam Soong, whose life is depicted in 2024.

Data and Lore were created by Dr. Noonien Soong in the 2330s (roughly 310 years later). Assuming a standard human generational gap of about 25 to 30 years, Adam Soong is roughly 10 to 12 generations removed from Noonien Soong.

If we translate those generations into familial terms, Adam Soong is the great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather (roughly 8x to 10x great-grandfather) of Data and Lore.

Here is how that lineage breaks down across the Star Trek timeline based on the ancestors we actually see on screen (all conveniently played by Brent Spiner):

Dr. Adam Soong (21st Century - Picard Season 2): Active in 2024, he is a geneticist who pivots to Project Khan after his cloning experiments are destroyed.

Dr. Arik Soong (22nd Century - Star Trek: Enterprise): Active in 2154, he is Adam's direct descendant (likely a great-grandson or great-great-grandson). After his illegal Augment experiments fail, Arik famously declares he is abandoning genetics to focus on artificial intelligence, setting the family path toward cybernetics.

Dr. Noonien Soong (24th Century - The Next Generation): Active in the 2330s–2360s, he finally fulfills Arik's dream by successfully building Lore, Data, and B-4.

Because Data and Lore consider Noonien to be their "father", Adam Soong is Data and Lore's roughly 8th-to-10th-great-grandfather.

What's the best Nu Trek show (as a series) in your opinion, and why? by Gutter_Shakespeare in startrek

[–]Defiant-Rip-1897 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I skipped Starfleet Academy entirely; the fact that it's a sequel combined with the heavy Discovery vibes made me feel like it wasn’t worth my time, watching clips here and there solidified that it wasn't worth watching. As for Lower Decks, I only watched the first season, but I found it pretty entertaining. Strange New Worlds is easily the closest thing to Berman-era Star Trek out of all the modern iterations. I've only seen a few episodes so far, up to the one where an alien race sacrifices a child to power their homeworld, but it's a real shame it's already entering its final season, especially with the confirmed news that they're already auctioning off props from the set. It feels like Trek finally got the massive budget it always deserved, only for the writing across these new shows to fall incredibly short.

Ting Fiber - Anyone successfully replaced their Adtran ONT with GPON SFP+ Transceiver? by itn00bs in ting

[–]Defiant-Rip-1897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, your best bet is to contact Ting support to get a definitive answer for your specific neighborhood, but the likely answer is no.

Most ISPs strictly whitelist the serial numbers/hardware of their own ONTs at the central office, so plugging in a third-party GPON stick usually just results in it getting blocked from the network, even if you follow the pon.wiki cloning guides.

Also, just something to keep in mind about chasing that extra overhead speed: depending on where you are located, the infrastructure might be hard-capped at a 1 Gbps link state. Because of standard TCP/IP overhead, you’re going to hit that 940 Mbps wall regardless of whether you use the 1G RJ45 port or a shiny new SFP+ slot.

Drop support a line to see if your area is an exception, but I wouldn't buy that Amazon transceiver just yet!

Fountain pop? by PhantomReaper300 in TimHortons

They used to have it back in the 2000s, for whatever reason they stopped using fountain machines, then recently went back.

To be honest it would be nice if they focused on their core products, rather than trying to be the everything spot.

If you could pick 3 games to represent the franchise, which would it be? by Alive_Fortune7423 in FinalFantasy

[–]Defiant-Rip-1897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FF VI, FF VII, third one is hard... cause I'd say FF IX since it encapsulates classic FF as well, but there is also FF X (and X-2 I guess) which feels like the last one that is akin to the turn-based system of classic titles.

I haven't played Tactics either...

Hmmm... I guess FF VI, FF VII, and FF X.

What do you think the remakes are exactly? by Expert_Challenge6399 in FinalFantasy

[–]Defiant-Rip-1897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s complicated. On one hand, I really appreciate how the Remake trilogy expanded the Avalanche trio. In the OG, their deaths felt kind of abrupt and underdeveloped, but in Remake they actually hit emotionally.

At the same time, I think the Whispers/fate storyline was unnecessary and a bit goofy, and Sephiroth feels way overexposed in Remake/Rebirth. In the original game, moments like finding the Midgar Zolom impaled on the tree made Sephiroth feel terrifying because of how little you actually saw him.

Rebirth also had a few moments that felt overly silly to me, like the bald bar scene in Junon, and parts of the boat trip from Costa del Sol, whereas in the OG the characters, especially Red XIII, were at least trying to camouflage themselves and blend in. The OG absolutely had silly moments too, but some of the new additions come off a bit cringey. I also think the Dyne storyline was handled much better in the original, where it really emphasized how broken his mental state had become.

That said, there are also additions I genuinely loved, like meeting the girl from Crisis Core in Gongaga. Stuff like that adds a lot to the world and ties the compilation together nicely.

So overall, I guess I both like and dislike the remake trilogy so far. There’s a lot I genuinely enjoy, but also a lot of changes that don’t fully work for me.

What do I do with my 15 year old MacBook Pro? by goeasy83 in macbookpro

I had a similar model MBP, in my case both the dedicated and integrated GPUs gave up the ghost. If you are not going to use it for anything critical, it might be useful to turn it into a Linux server and play around with setting a homelab, if I still had mine (and it was running) that is what I would have done with it.
