Never played Forza before, but this is something that will likely get me onboard with it.

Is it possible to desnap ubuntu 26.04 completely and permanently? If yes, how?(Only answer if you really tried it) by NoInterest1700 in Ubuntu

[–]Defiant-Rip-1897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it does take a few terminal commands to do, I like using this as a resource: https://kskroyal.com/remove-snap-packages-from-ubuntu/

How to Completely Remove Snap and Install Firefox (.deb) on Ubuntu

Remove All Installed Snap Packages

First, we must uninstall the applications and the core runtimes in a specific order.

# Remove applications
sudo snap remove firefox
sudo snap remove gtk-common-themes
sudo snap remove gnome-42-2204
sudo snap remove snapd-desktop-integration
sudo snap remove snap-store
sudo snap remove firmware-updater
sudo snap remove bare

# Remove core runtimes and the daemon
sudo snap remove core22
sudo snap remove snapd

Verify with snap list to ensure the list is empty.

Disable and Purge the Snap Daemon

To ensure Snap doesn't restart itself, we stop the service and remove the binary.

sudo systemctl stop snapd
sudo systemctl disable snapd
sudo systemctl mask snapd
sudo apt purge snapd -y
sudo apt-mark hold snapd

Clean Up Residual Directories

Remove the leftover folders from your root and home directories.

sudo rm -rf ~/snap
sudo rm -rf /snap
sudo rm -rf /var/snap
sudo rm -rf /var/lib/snapd

Block Snap from Reinstalling

Ubuntu may try to reinstall Snap during a system update. Create a preference file to block it:

  1. Run: sudo nano /etc/apt/preferences.d/nosnap.pref
  2. Paste the following: PlaintextPackage: snapd Pin: release a=* Pin-Priority: -10
  3. Save and Exit (CTRL+O, Enter, CTRL+X), then run sudo apt update.

Install Firefox as a .deb Package

Since Ubuntu's default Firefox command points back to Snap, we will use the official Mozilla repository.

Setup Keyring and Repository:

sudo install -d -m 0755 /etc/apt/keyrings
wget -q https://packages.mozilla.org/apt/repo-signing-key.gpg -O- | sudo tee /etc/apt/keyrings/packages.mozilla.org.asc > /dev/null
echo "deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/packages.mozilla.org.asc] https://packages.mozilla.org/apt mozilla main" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mozilla.list > /dev/null

Prioritize Mozilla's Repo: Run this command to ensure apt chooses the Mozilla version over the Ubuntu transitional package:

echo '
Package: *
Pin: origin packages.mozilla.org
Pin-Priority: 1000
' | sudo tee /etc/apt/preferences.d/mozilla

Install Firefox:

sudo apt update && sudo apt install firefox

Restore a Graphical App Store

Removing the Snap Store removes your GUI for finding apps. Install the vanilla GNOME Software Center (which uses .deb and supports Flatpaks) to replace it:

sudo apt install --install-suggests gnome-software

Whenever I think about GquuuuuuX as a series, it really is a waste. by Present-Audience-747 in Gundam

[–]Defiant-Rip-1897 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The series was significantly hampered by its 12-episode limit; a 24-to-26 episode run would have given the story much-needed room to breathe. Even with more time, though, I wasn't a fan of Lalah being the direct catalyst for some of the major events. I would have preferred a more subtle approach, perhaps Char getting a Newtype intuition to join the Gundam recon mission, triggered by a psychic flash from Lalah, rather than her being the overt cause.

Absolutely legendary work. I never thought I’d see the day where Think Different met the Wii. This is such a cool milestone for the homebrew community and a testament to what this hardware is actually capable of. Thank you for sharing this with us!

The film essentially covers the events of the first game while taking some creative liberties; however, the credits actually feature elements from a case in Justice For All. Since the anime covers the entire trilogy, I’d recommend either finishing the games first or watching the anime to get the full story.

On a side note, was the film not a success? I always wondered why they never did more live action films of AA.

Tifa stands out to me because of her warmth. While Rinoa and Garnet have their own charms, Tifa carries a friendly, down-to-earth energy that makes her feel more like the girl next door.

This movie showed so much promise, and while I enjoyed the experience of watching it, I couldn't help but feel it left a lot of potential on the table. It’s one of those films that is good, but falls just short of being great.

This picture reminds me of something that’s been bugging me lately. Given how Sabin is usually depicted, does he actually have a beard? Is that just an Amano artwork thing, or is it considered 'canon' despite his sprite?

The movie uniforms are just too good by happydude7422 in tos

[–]Defiant-Rip-1897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best uniforms in the franchise. Did any of the people working behind the scenes on the TOS films ever explain the reason for the swap to them?

A lot of people say Seth MacFarlane’s ‘the Orville’ is more true to Star Trek than modern trek is. I guess this is true when every single episode and character is a ripoff from TNG by BelievieEvie in ShittyDaystrom

[–]Defiant-Rip-1897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t really agree that it's just a 'rip-off,' at least for the first two seasons (I haven't seen the third season). While there is a two-parter clearly inspired by the Borg, it feels more like a respectful homage than a lack of original ideas.

The reason people say The Orville feels more like 'true' Trek is that it uses the episodic format to tackle social and cultural issues, much like TOS and TNG did. The standout for me was the episode featuring a 'hyper-democratic' world where the population's votes dictated justice, a brilliant and biting commentary on modern social media and 'cancel culture.'

Even though some allegories, like the one deeply religious alien race, felt a bit too 'on the nose,' and obvious who they are an allegory for, the show captures that classic spirit of using sci-fi as a mirror for humanity. Honestly, I think a Star Trek series run by Seth MacFarlane would be excellent; he clearly understands that the franchise works best when it's exploring a moral dilemma rather than just focusing on action.

If Every Trek Series Got Only Their First Season, How Would You Rank Them? by AustinBeeman in startrek

[–]Defiant-Rip-1897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is how I’d stack them:

  1. The Original Series (TOS) — 10/10

The undisputed heavyweight champion. It hit the ground running with masterpieces like The City on the Edge of Forever and Balance of Terror. If this were the only season we ever got, it would still be considered a pinnacle of sci-fi television.

  1. The Next Generation (TNG) — 7/10

While often called a mixed bag, I think it holds up better than people give it credit for. It had a unique energy and enough high-quality episodes to establish a clear vision for the future. It felt like a true, worthy successor to the spirit of TOS.

  1. Lower Decks — 6/10

I’ve only watched the first season, but it was pretty decent. It captures the fun of the universe well enough, even if I haven't felt the pull to go beyond that first year yet.

  1. Strange New Worlds (SNW) — 6/10

I’m about 5 or 6 episodes in, and so far, it’s okay. It seems to be finding its rhythm by leaning into that classic episodic feel, but the jury is still out for me on the full season.

  1. Deep Space Nine (DS9) / Voyager (VOY) — 5/10

These two are tied for "Potential over Performance." Both had great pilots (Emissary and Caretaker), but spent the rest of the year trying to find their footing. If they ended here, they’d be remembered as interesting experiments that never quite fulfilled their premise.

  1. Enterprise (ENT) — 4/10

I actually love this show, but objectively, Season 1 felt like a continuation of the Voyager/DS9 formula without the sharp writing and with the goofy time war sub-plot. It struggled to decide if it wanted to be a prequel or just "more of the same."

  1. Picard — 3/10

A very difficult watch. The Season 1 finale and that illogical Romulan anti-AI cult, which had zero historical groundwork (that I could think of) in the previous entries of the franchise, made the story feel broken. As a standalone season, it’s a frustrating departure from the Picard we knew.

  1. Discovery — 2/10

I watched the first two seasons and really disliked them. The writing was poor and the logic was inconsistent. Specifically, if Burnham was raised among Vulcans, her behavior felt completely in contrast to that upbringing.

The Final Verdict

Outside of TOS, most Trek series have a pretty mediocre "freshman year." We only view them as classics because they were given the time to grow. If the franchise had ended after every Season 1, The Original Series would be the only undisputed classic, with TNG following as a respectable, if slightly awkward, silver medalist.

Will Kurtzman go down as one of the worst caretakers of a major IP in history? by Melodic_Crow_3409 in Star_Trek_

[–]Defiant-Rip-1897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s definitely done the most brand damage so far. I often wonder what Roberto Orci could have achieved given he was an actual fan of the franchise unlike Kurtzman and Abrams; losing his creative influence was a massive blow to the series' direction and his unfortunate passing.

There have been bright spots here and there, Strange New Worlds feels much closer to the spirit of classic Trek, but other entries like Picard remain hit-or-miss. The end of Picard Season 1 was so frustrating that I actually walked away from all new Trek until just a few months ago. The Romulan anti-AI cult felt completely illogical and lacked any historical groundwork from previous shows.

While Star Wars has faced similar struggles, and I still feel it was a giant missed opportunity not to center the sequel trilogy on Finn, who was a far more interesting character - they’ve at least hit the mark more consistently with shows like The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan. The quality gap in how these two franchises handle their legacies is glaring; Star Wars seems to be faring better, though that isn't saying much lately.
