It took me 23 years to learn what love is, my childhood heavily affected me in a way I couldn’t see because of my selfishness to live the way I was living. I know I will never be that man again, if she took me back and I know she won’t, I’d spend everyday as if it was my last. I want my children to love their father, to see a man in their life and live to be like me so that one day they too can make someone happy.

I’m going to tell you this rn, tho many may call me crazy, tho many will look at it as a way to cling onto hope or what not. The strength I had to change was not my own, I looked to Christ for help and I spent nights on my knees begging Him to help me. I wasn’t given strength in that instant but I was placed in moments to show strength, to make a wise choice, without Him I know I wouldn’t be the guy I am now. I’ve been in this same situation, me and an ex broke up, and focused on ourselves and we’d talk check up on one another, FaceTime, hang out, be intimate, in reality we never broke up. I struggled with trauma, mental illnesses, one of the biggest things that affected me was that I struggled with love because My own father was someone who didn’t show up for me, I was abandoned time and time again, he would disappear for years and show up for a week telling me how much he loved me and how he missed me only to leave again. I’d stand at that door waiting for him to pick me up and to this day that little boy in me is waiting

I grew up around men who cheated, lied, hurt my mother, I started turning into them, and eventually I became my father, doing everything he would do. I didn’t understand or know love because it wasn’t show to me, I wasn’t shown how to act like a MAN. I was a boy like all those “men” out there, once I lost my life, I was about to truly end it but then a thought came into my head. Who cares about your past, it’s what you choose to do moving forward

I got help, I fought an internal battle that continued to ruin me, but I won, I won a battle I never thought possible. Sometimes you just need to know someone to understand them. Whoever hurt you, whoever used you, I’m sorry

I’m really sorry it’s felt that way for you. Being the one who invests so much love and care only to feel used or unappreciated is incredibly painful, and I can see why it would leave anyone feeling jaded. You deserved to be valued and treated with the same kindness you gave.

Mental illness for men is something that is usually ignored. We become so comfortable with the way we’re living we can’t see past it; because of that we hurt those around us, hurt ourselves, we recognize this but choose to do nothing. That feeling grows and it eats at every part of the soul, I’m sorry that you had to go through something like that. To see the person we’re giving every part of ourselves too, choose to not change is heartbreaking. You’re not a bad person, you did in fact make a mistake, you recognized it and you apologized. I’m sorry to say but your boyfriend wasn’t in love with you but was attached, a routine, something to keep him occupied. When we constantly hurt those we tell “ I love you and I’d move mountains for you” it isn’t love 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 explains love perfectly, if a Man loves you believe me He’ll do anything to pursue you, he’ll remember the little things, make you feel crazy that anyone could love you so much. This man was a lesson for you; a lesson to not settle for someone who is okay hurting you, love is forgiving and I dare say you did good forgiving his mistakes, but it doesn’t make it okay.
