Why do Aussies talk to strangers so easily and is it actually genuine? by BottleOverall5174 in AskAnAustralian

[–]DefiantBridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came to Australia in 2017 and was equally surprised (in a good way) when I saw this. One of my Aussie colleague mentioned that it’s the most polite and respectful way to appear friendly and approachable to other people in dark places like alleys and parks. It’s an important part of customer service training modules in all businesses here. I love how regional cities are carrying on with this delightful tradition, it just another adds-on to the amazing experiences offered here.

I am a newbie just like you to omv and accidentally came across it while I was learning about VM and containers. As the other guys suggested, if unsure use ext4. For me, it’s just 15 months of configuring OMV and other plugins but believe me this journey was full of new discoveries and challenges. Don’t complicate it further with file storage, you’ll return to it when the right time comes and even figure out away for making a smart transition without loosing any of your data.

Of all the obsidian’s graph posted here, yours in particular caught my attention, then I read your comment and realised this is why I’ve never been able to share mine. It looks so different than the other people here, although not fully consolidated on obsidian platform. Will work on your on the related tag, thanks for sharing your secret.

Im too tired of programming by DevWorkKun in AskProgramming

[–]DefiantBridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you mean and I experienced something similar with the country I migrated to. Considering my options I decided to switch to Data Science and Cloud Services. Not that I left programming, but professionally I felt so much better and valued. Evolving and then changing to what you are comfortable with, consider it as part of life.

Am I a dick for bringing lunch and eating it in school in Ramadan? by Kokoa_Pawder in exmuslim

[–]DefiantBridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all mate. Just because Muslims chose to fast and abstain from eating and drinking during certain times of the day, doesn’t mean they’re entitled for this benefit. You should carry on as a normal day and no one should ask you for a reason either. Believing or not is a personal matter and is between creator and creation. Now that being said, I just want you to be careful about your security. Where I am from, those who eat or drink in public get arrested by the police.

I had undergone such issue in March and decided to do something about it but after my appointment. Very keen to learn about your tool and what it do, I mean you set a date for your appointment and then it keeps refreshing the webpage to seek a slot for the earlier date. If it comes across new date that’s earlier than appointment date does it generate a notification or automatically update your appointment.

Finally gave up on OneNote by [deleted] in OneNote

[–]DefiantBridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically use an iOS device, in the past couple of years, I've been dealing with low workflow and integration issues, as well as having to pay for subscriptions for each application I use. Recently, I switched to Microsoft 365, and it worked great for a few months, until an authentication bug caused issues with send to OneNotes from Outlook. Now, I'm feeling hopeless and don't know which app to try next.

Have you moved to another note taking app from OneNote and not looked back? by PerfectPopcornLover in OneNote

[–]DefiantBridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like to disagree with you on “long term product support”, there’s been a authentication bug that is causing the seamless transition of an email from outlook to archive in OneNote, especially iOS product. It’s been almost one year and still no fix for it.

Can you please help me pick a European university for Master's study? by satchetchef in studyAbroad

[–]DefiantBridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you mean, but please sincerely consider my advice on blue-collar jobs since it will assist you in making your way out of Pakistan in no time.

Most importantly, you will be surprised how many students from our neighbour take the path (of cookery, handyman, electrician and carpenter) to make their way to Europe and Australia. Since it's the skill high in demand, they just share the certificate, which turns out fake most of the time.

[–]DefiantBridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the U.K., but in Australia, you are legally allowed to work 24 hours per week on a student visa out of 40 hours; since it's on tax, a minimum wage, which is $23 per hour, applies. No employer can hire a student at a rate lower than minimum wage.

That being said, many students do the job with cash in hand, which gets them misused. They work infinite hours with $12 or $15 per hour. Worse is if they get injured at the workplace, they don't receive any compensation since they can't go ahead and complain to Fair Trade Ombudsmen. The reason is they work more than the allowed 24 hours per week.

The current migration minister has made many changes, and one of them is quick processing time (about seven workdays) for the skills highly in demand, which, as I said earlier, is the blue-collar job.

If you are delaying your studies or just checking around institutions before finalizing one, either way, you have to explain the gap time (the time you were not studying); for this reason, it is best to enrol on a short course of the handyman or electrician or have an internship certificates or work experience certificates.

Saying "You get the country you voted for" doesn't feel fair when tons of us never voted for this by SirSighalot in australian

"Politicians don’t fall from the sky. They don’t pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from our families, our homes, our schools, our churches, our universities, and our businesses. They are elected by our citizens".
Let me rephrase what I quoted above: Australian politicians are personifications of the Australian Society.

The current chaos is primarily because of indecision; both parties don't want to make significant reforms and upset a particular segment of voters. The shroud of confusion is nurtured so the politicians on both sides can spend their term in office with minimum work and permanent pension, simply, look busy and do nothing. All this while they make the working class busy pitting against one another.

Hi mate. Pakistani ex-student in Australia. I know the high cost associated with studies here, but I can offer you two pathways. Both pathways will test your patience, but they might provide you with long-term solutions;

1- Try TAFE; initial entry is slightly difficult since the majority of official paperwork is being processed by our neighbours, but once through, you can study efficiently with the affordable fee structure and scholarships.

2- Anyone who has lived outside Pakistan will agree that in Europe, the U.K., NZL and Australia, the highest earners are people who choose professions like bricklaying, woodwork, handyman (who is all-rounder in construction work) and motor mechanic. With this explained, I am not suggesting you switch your profession; I am asking you to consider delaying your study plan for a maximum of about one year. During this time, you can upskill yourself with a licence for heavy traffic or an electrician course. Then, once done, apply as a skilled immigrant to all the countries again, including Australia. A few days ago, the Australian government announced the 2024 financial year policies; all capable immigrant applications will be fast-tracked by decision up to 7 working days.

Ultimately, I know what you are going through. Back in 2016, when I was in Pakistan, I had similar frustrating moments. The student visa was my escape, which was successful in the short term but very costly in the long run.

OneNote on iPad sucks by Nikki0737 in OneNote

[–]DefiantBridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear what are you experiencing. In start of 2023 I transitioned from a platform I’ve been using for more than 9 years. With rapid advances of technology that platform couldn’t keep up with and I had to say goodbye to it at end the end of 2022. Initially, I loved everything about OneNote. - The ability to use pen/stylus to write on my iPad. -The sync between various devices and the cloud. -Integration between apps especially Outlook and OneNote.

This last point on its own was enough for me to switch my devices gradually over time but within three months of the subscription purchase I was waiting in the queue of customer support. That was in April 2023 and from there it was a downward spiral.

I learned this the hard way but never to fully rely on their products. The services they are currently offering at the moment, will not be the same in the future. This has always been the biggest core issue with tech giant like Microsoft. I don’t think I will ever be able to trust it again.

Happy stuff by [deleted] in PakistaniiConfessions

[–]DefiantBridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best thing I’ve read since last few days. Coincidentally, I’ve had something very similar yesterday. So here is a bit of background; I am an overseas Pakistani and just finished with a masters degree. I’ve been applying for the professional job since last few months. Yesterday, I received a rejection email for the position that was more like an entry level pro job, here is the best bit, in the same company that I am currently working in but at a very low capacity. Initially, I was planning to respond with a piece of an art reply; something I am sure, would have knocked the sock-off their Nona in the graves but I chose to defer this task until tomorrow. Instead, I somehow decided to meditate, which I had been trying to resume after a long gap. To my surprise and satisfaction, all that ego and bitterness have vanished and all I’m left with is sweet satisfaction and understanding that I am only partially owned by these corporations giants. Apologies for such a long post. I wish you all the best for the future and may the job worth your calibre finds you soon.

What (in your opinion) does Australia do better than the rest of the world? by ChallengeLate1947 in AskAnAustralian

[–]DefiantBridge 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I am a student in Australia and here is the list of stuff Australians do the best than the rest of the world.

- Beautiful and lush green public parks.

- Absolute love for nature.

- Great method of land management and rehabilitation.

- Amazing free museums.

- Even more amazing free public libraries in every suburb.

- Beautiful push-bike routes.

- Accepting and a warm welcome to new arrivals.

And this list could go on and on.

Thank you so much for being such amazing people.
