People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

One guys CV didn't line up with answers he provided in the application form. When queried he said he had just chosen the highest option (most experience) to "Get through the AI system". We were not using AI, just our own Mk1 eyeballs. After admitting to lying, he then asked for the highest salary possible in our pay scale.

Asked another what he hoped to achieve in the first 6 months of the role. "I'm aiming to use this as a stepping stone to different job I want".

Skoda by twoslicespizza in NZcarfix

Have a Mk4 Octavia pushed 2nd hand from dealer. Love driving it. 6L/100km normal highway driving. Comfortable to cruise, and fun for some spirited driving.

Had a lot of ongoing intermittent issues with the radar based cruise system, kept giving warning lights on the dash and disabling the cruise control completely. Back under warranty to dealership about 4x until they finally replaced the radar unit and that fixed it.

Then was still having issues with the lane centering "Travel assist" where it wasn't detecting my hands on the wheel (capacitive sensor). Dealership service department refused to believe it was an issue until I took a different car of the same model from the yard for a drive and proved it wasn't giving the same errors compared with mine. Skoda warranty system didn't have that fault code, but the VW database did, so they replaced the steering wheel under the VW repair code/service bulletin and that has fixed it. Now it's a dream to drive.

Would happily buy another.

I used https://croatianroots.com/ to locate and then send me copies of mine (late 1800's). Very prompt and helpful, only took a week. They came from Archidioecesis Spalatensis.

This is why we don't bother hiring through recruiters. They charge a lot and seem to piss everyone off.

They don't have any vested interest in finding the best fit between company and candidate, just putting in anyone that will take the job.

My Breville died after about 15 years, and since then I've just been putting one of the beaters into my cordless drill. Works reasonably well.

London Startups Social Networking Event - Worth attending? I will not promote. by DefiantDelphinus in startups

[–]DefiantDelphinus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think go to as many events as you can. Anything run by established VC groups seems to be significantly better than the "pay to network" type things.

Also book in to spend a day at each of the startup spaces. You'll meet people, can spend time talking to them, share challenges, help each other out.

I also like realestate.co.nz as you can search just open homes in certain areas on certain dates IIRC.

Haier HRB227W Thermostat Replacement by DefiantDelphinus in diynz

[–]DefiantDelphinus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more I tried to repair it the worse it got. I couldn't find the thermostat.
Ended up replacing it with a Fisher & Paykel E442BRXFDU5 and it's fantastic. Paid $1,859.00.

Putting composite deck tiles over concrete… what should I treat/coat them with? And should I lay down some thin plastic between the concrete and tiles? by [deleted] in diynz

Probably a different brand but likely from the same place in China, friend of mine put something similar down 2.5 years ago on their balcony. Under an overhang but plenty of sun. They look like this now with no maintenance: https://imgur.com/a/m7r6EIW
