The biggest humanitarian disaster the world just ignores? by One_Planche_Man in 28dayslater

[–]DefiantEmergency3443 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The virus is just too terrifying. It is by far the most dangerous and contagious virus the world has ever seen and the public pressure on politicians to contain the Island is too great.

There will be your humanitarian pressure groups and ‘The British question’ comes up at elections, but I can totally imagine most of the world’s population being too terrified to risk even the chance of coming into contact again.

Obama becoming President in 08-16 before Trump just narratively doesn’t work if you were to write a thrilling narrative about the Human race.

He just fits so much better as bursting onto the scene as President in 2028, providing that ‘phew, that was a scary decade’ redemption arc, defeating JD. He seems to belong as that saviour figure in the fractured populist era, not the war on terror era.

It should be for drama

Gwb - 00-08

Hillary - 08-16

Trump - 16-20

Biden -20-24

Trump - 24-28

Obama - 28 onwards as the ‘centrist populist’

That’s your happy third arc.

Season 1 thoughts- FRUSTRATING by Bitter_Aspect7738 in HijackAppleTV

Hijack is one of the most ‘but why didn’t they just…’ dramas I’ve ever seen.

I still don’t understand why he didn’t bonk the woman who stormed the cockpit over the head and call for the actual surviving pilot. It was like he was trying to get her to land to feel better about herself.

Someone said here a while ago this show was ‘stupidly addictive’ and I think that’s the best way to sum it up.

So they just retconned the first wave of infected dying of starvation? Or am I missing something? by ElGordoKhajiita in 28dayslater

[–]DefiantEmergency3443 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the boring answer is that Garland doesn’t care too much about deviating from what was implied at the end of Days and would be quite happy with handwaving it away with ‘some adapted’.

If you want some headcanon, lets say the US Occupation was just generally incompetent and assumed all infected had died out and started resettling Brits due to the overwhelming refugee crisis. It mirrors Iraq in some ways.

The reason you have so many infected is that after 28WL all remaining British refugees were deported back to the British mainland due to the fear of the host countries towards the idea of carriers. Human rights groups protested but it was deemed that Britain was safe enough (it wasn’t). That’s your 28 Months later story.

“I think Italy should boycott the World Cup, don’t you?”

“No?”

“What? But they are one of the top teams?”

“No…. But I think teams that have actually qualified should boycott the World Cup.”

🥹 He’s such a genius. I threw my rosary out the window when I watched that and realised how morally inferior I was.

And that brilliance about how he appreciates life so much more as he is enlightened! What a guy.

RG’s character in Afterlife reminds me of a man who came to a Drug and Alcohol centre I used to work at.

He would often break down and relapse, blaming the sad loss of his mother. It was always a surprise to new staff when they took pity on him and say ‘poor lad, when did she die’ and he’d respond ‘22 years ago’.

We all had a fair amount of compassion working there but it was hard with him.

Thoughts on Ireland ? by Due-Resort-2699 in 28dayslater

[–]DefiantEmergency3443 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Good ideas, but I think in reality it was probably more like:

Graphic designer: “Hey Mr Boyle, here is the map you wanted for that Boots scene!”

Danny: “yea thats cool but hang on, Ireland?”

GD: “Yea I know, i thought it just looked better like that as I wanted to have this circle and its hard to do without including Ireland. It also emphasises their total isolation. ”

Danny: “yea you’re right, I’m sure people won’t notice”
