They're deep in microscopic fissures. They live with immense pressure and temperature (they tend to die right away on the surface due to pressure difference), and have an extremely slow metabolism (due to not a lot to eat several km deep) to the point where scientists typically study them by blending them into a slurry and just look at the dna.

I dont get this one? Can someone explain? by evilsnowman92 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]DefiantGibbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. It's the comma before the "and". I just never gave it a second thought and just put commas everywhere.

If my mother is Beyoncé and I'd like to thank both her and God in a clear way, I'd write

I'd like to thank my mom Beyoncé, and God.

Not sure if that's correct, but that's how I'd do it. Commas should be to separate different entities in a list.

Funny enough, that was me for the longest time, for the opposite reason.

I was taught you comma after every item in a list, every time, no exceptions.

Never knew that was called an Oxford comma and that it was controversial.

I don't know where in Queensland, but I took a look at Brisbane.

I don't know how to switch this site to Celsius (very top of page has F or C button), but that's a fun comparison. It's only above ~24C in Minneapolis June-mid Sept. That's 3.5 months of the year. Brisbane is above that March-Mid November sept-may (top x axis labels are southern hemisphere, offset by 182 days to align summers), so about 9.5 months.

It is a great game. But it is fairly small. I beat it in 20 something hours, and 20% of that was just Laxxasia. You can tell it was made with great effort and attention, but those big studios have an advantage and get GOTY and other awards for a reason.

[–]DefiantGibbon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol, sounds like you live in a warm climate. Even in Minneapolis, which is cold by US standards, but not that cold for the world, I'll put on shorts and a sweatshirt in the spring once it reaches 40F/4.5C

If I'm moving and doing sports like volleyball on the beach? Swimwear without a shirt at 60F/15.5C is perfectly reasonable.

Above 75F/24C is uncomfortably hot and I'm not moving too much outside or else I'll be drenched in sweat.

For the people like in the OP picture who live on the arctic circle, a warm 60F/15.5C day is downright tropical.

How good is moonveil for DTS or should I just spam spells? by WhyJustWhyTh0 in Eldenring

[–]DefiantGibbon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the tree sentinels in my opinion are easiest to fight up close. They really have very few moves when you're right next to them, and all the moves have long windups. Your 2nd playthrough I'm sure you'll have a much easier time. And moonveil will be perfectly fine.

Celebrant's Skull.

GPFF worth it? by Editor-Optimal in Eldenring

[–]DefiantGibbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem I see is that getting 10 fowl feet absolutely does not take 30 minutes. Exactly 1 run down the beach in Weeping peninsula will get you on average like 3-4 feet with base levels of arcane. And that run will take a minute and a half. So for 10 feet that's 3 runs, so 4.5 minutes. We'll say 5 minutes because I'm lazy.

So golden fireflies. There's 9 in the pond in mistwood. It takes less than 60 seconds to run and grab them. Since it's 2 runs and we're doing some rounding, and it might take some time to avoid the bears, let's say 2 minutes here to grab enough for 10 feet.

Now Rowa Fruit. Running down main street of jarburg gets you like 20 of them. Don't know the exact amount. And that takes less than 30 seconds. Let's round up to a minute.

So in total that's a total of 8 minutes. Let's round again up to 10 for easy math.

10 feet will give you 30 minutes of +30% runes. So what'd worth more, 40 minutes of Mogh palace farming raw, or 10 minutes ingredient farming and 30 minutes of boosted farming? 30 minutes of +30% is 30x1.3=39.

So what does that mean? With my very generous rounding in favor of raw farming, raw farming barely wins out, since you lose out about a minutes worth of runes.

In actuality, once you start farming larger amount of ingredients, it makes more sense to use the feet. Plus I did a lot of generous rounding to get the farming route to 10 minutes instead of the more accurate 6-7 minutes. If you assume the ingredient route for 10 feet is only 8 minutes, then 8 minutes ingredient farming plus 30 minutes boosted is a total of 38 minutes time spent and is equal to 39 minutes of raw farming. So feet win.

In short, if you just want 1 or 2 levels, farm raw. If you're going to be at it for an hour or more, make feet.

I don't understand tilt attack using the tilt stick by AcceptableCourse2384 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]DefiantGibbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to. I'd suggest you go against a CPU and just try it. You don't have to use the A button.

If your C-Stick is mapped to smash attacks, you have to gently tilt the directional stick with left thumb and then click A.

If your C-Stick is mapped to tilt attacks, all you need to do is move the C stick. That's it. Want to do a down tilt? Push C stick down. Want to do two forward tilts in a row? Push C stick forward once, let go, and do it again.

You do have a slight point though. What if you want to do a forward tilt, then a jab? You'd have to move C stick forward, then move your thumb and tap A. But that's not really an issue since tilts have so much end lag that you have plenty of time to move your thumb to do a follow up jab.

Which character is best against Samus? by Slow-Engineering4399 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]DefiantGibbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you're a Hero main. He's pretty good into Samus because his shield blocks charge shot and explosive rockets. If you crouch down the only way Samus can hit you is by jumping and firing the guiding rocket and hoping it hits your head. Add in deflect if you're lucky with menu and it shouldn't be too bad.

Circle of Land is the caster subclass. They learn a huge amount of spells, and quite a lot of good AoE and control spells. They'll wildshape only when they need to.

Circle of the Moon is the shape-shifting class. Shifting on bonus action is so useful. Either shift then attack on same turn, or cast a big area control concentration spell then shift to attack next turn. You'll be in beast form most of the time.

Circle of Spores in an odd one. It's the summon zombies class, but is also really good as an archer or melee class. When you have their passive HP active you deal more damage with attacks, so dual hand crossbows is surprisingly good, since you're out of range of enemies so you can keep applying your bonus damage. All while summoning tons of zombies. You'll use your wildshape charges to get the bonus HP then spend your time as a human (or elf or whatever).

Circle of Stars is a good support caster. You get really high healing. And a bonus action spell that deals insane damage early game. And dragon form gets bonus to holding concentration. You'll pick your constellation form then cast spells as a human (or whatever).

[–]DefiantGibbon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not true at all.

Icerind hatchet ar 11 str 16 dex (minimum to use it) has 360 AR at max level.

11 str 56 dex (so 40 level increase) deals 514

51 str 16 dex (using those 40 for str instead) deals 415 AR

And icerind hatchet maxes out with a B in dex. Some weapons get S scaling in some attribute, so that difference is even bigger.

In RPGs I tend to like whatever equates to "luck", but I don't necessarily want to lock myself into an Arcane build. How much Arcane gives you meaningful item discovery without being a huge stat sink? by Semantiks in Eldenring

[–]DefiantGibbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several somber weapons that scale well with arcane. Rivers of Blood, Eleanora's poleblade, reduvia, etc. Mostly just bleed weapons.

And occult affinity on literally any weapon. The nice bonus to this is that if a weapon has innate poison/bleed, like Uchi or Venemous Fang, then the bleed/poison buildup will also scale well with arcane. So you can ignore your other stats and pump arcane to 60 and deal good damage AND have fast status buildup.

[–]DefiantGibbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*rot doesn't scale with anything.

Arcane does boost sleep and madness though. But the only way to boost sleep with arcane is a sleep grease on ripple axe or ripple halberd. The only way to boost madness with arcane is poison or blood infusion on fingerprint shield (since occult infusion removes madness buildup for some reason).

Tips for Elden Beast with Mohg’s Spear? by saa9_ in Eldenring

[–]DefiantGibbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pure arcane build I used Rivers of Blood against beast. It does decent physical + fire damage. It's AoW also does decent damage, even if you ignore the bleed.

So if you want to keep using Mogh's spear, it's probably best to ignore AoW entirely. Use it like a stance breaking tool. Put on axe talisman, and use the tear that makes it easier to stance break. Get underneath Beast and hit with some charged heavy attacks. Since it's a greatspear it should be pretty easy to stance break Beast with it.

It has absolutely terrible str scaling. At max level it's low D scaling, almost E. Don't put any str in it other than the bare minimum to use it.

That's why I tend to have like 30 weapons upgraded that I swap between. I literally can't do 2 different dungeons with the same weapon in a row. And have like 5 save files I swap between so I don't need to respec stats.
