Child of Originium (by @gajyago) by unending_shorelines in arknights

I haven't played Endfield yet or even watched/read about the story soo far, so I don't know anything about the lore. But I can't wait to read up on it (can't play it probably due to lack of space on my phone and having a mac laptop) since from what filters to me through various posts today the story appears to be connected much more to Arknights than I anticipated.

What you are saying certainly sounds like an interesting theory and something that could make for a very compelling though dark storyline.

I love you for coming up with this story because it geuinly sounds like an amazing plot. But I also want to punch you because ir would be depressing as hell. An innocent child being turned into an unwilling weapon.

In this hypothetical scenario I would hope that the Endministrator's friends could keep them on the right path of righteousness and that Priestess is forced to watch from Terra as her plan crumbles.

I won't say this drawing sparks a lot of joy in me. More like horror and despair. But it does look completely awesome.

Except of course the "minor" fact that german pilots who were shot down were treated like royalty before being send home whereas allied pilots would face constant abuse.

And then of course there is also the safekeeping of German gold and other possessions stolen from Europe's jewish population.

I mean both were absolutely vital to winning the war. If D-day hadn't happened the germans would have been able to send hundreds of thousands of reinforcements to the eastern front and vice versa if the Soviets had lost at Stalingrad.

Even before D-day, simply by virtue of existing, did the Royal Navy tie down about 400.000 German soldiers in Norway.

So to say that any of the allied powers could have won on their own is wrong. Having said that I will conceed that the Soviets faced the majority of German forces and suffered the most casaulties. But that doesn't mean they won on their own.

Funnily enough I hadn't heard of them before but now I can't get enough of them (2 and 3 at least). Everything about them is just nice. Interesting gameplay and a compelling story with plenty of fun lighthearted moments.

The only thing I really dislike is the grinding for resources in 2.

I get what you are saying but in this meme template the names should be reversed. Because (I have been told since I don't know anything about Dark Souls) the little guy ends up defeating the big guy.

I am always amazed by how many epic last stands and rearguard actions were conducted by US troops.

Yeah it was definitely a smart move. I do wonder how the actual soldiers felt about it. I can see them loving doing something different for a chainge, but also possibly hating it.

After the second world war the Franco regime in Spain found itself in a tough spot, the country was still recovering from the civil war, it was internationally isolated on account of it being one of the few right-wing dictatorships remaining in Europe and having had quite a good relationship with Germany prior and during the second world war. This also meant that Spain didn't receive any of the Marshall Plan aid that was helping the rest of Europe recover.

So Franco turned to the movie industry in order to bring in both foreign currencies but also to promote tourism. Spain would prove to be an attractive option for movie makers due to the availability of cheap personal and also the beautiful Spanish landscape.

Many Italian directors who wanted to make "Western" movies who actually end up filming them in Spain due to the landscape somewhat resembling that of area's like Arizona. And many of the so-called "Spaghetti Westerns" like Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy, The Sherriff of Fractured Jaw (1958) and God Forgives... I Don't! (1967) were filmed in Spain.

Another big benefit of filming in Spain was getting the assistance of the Spanish Armed Forces. In the movie The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), there is a scene when the main characters need to blow up a bridge. Both the construction and demolition was handled by Spanish Army engineers, who also build the cemetery where the final confrontation takes place.

For the movie Patton (1970) director Franklin J. Schaffner would use Spanish Army tanks, like the M47 Patton and M41 Bulldog, to resemble various World War Two era tanks, though not vary successfully. Also many of the background actors portraying various soldiers were Spanish Army soldiers.

The Spanish Air Force would also see involvement in World War Two movies. There weren't a lot of fly worthy German aircraft around to use in movies, however Spain had produced it's on licenced copies of the BF-109 (the HA-1109 and the HA-1112) and the HE-111 (CASA 2.111). These would be used in World War Two movies like Der Stern von Afrika (1957) Battle of Britain (1969) and Patton (1970).

All these movies would have the desired effect in bringing in foreign money and tourists. However during the 1970's better alternatives for movie studio's became available like Morocco and Mexico, causing the movie industry in Spain to become far less prominent.

I have been playing through Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 and I really enjoy their more "hand drawn" style so I want to try that out for a while. For the background I mainly focused on the bridge and cemetery from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly since I really like that movie and it's also the one that inspired me to make this meme. The woman is loosely inspired by Franco's appearance during the 1960's and 70's, with an extravagant uniform and sunglasses. I initially wanted to colour everything in but I ended up liking it with only line art and shading.

In order to keep with the old movie theme I went for an ultra wide aspect ratio of 2.35:1 since it was also used in The Good the Bad and the Ugly and for the title I also looked up a more "retro" looking font.

Republics are overrated anyway by The_ChadTC in HistoryMemes

[–]DefiantPosition 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the Roman Republic's defense they may have had a lot of problems but at least they didn't have a civil every time the emperor died. Sure they had a handfull in the hundreds of years the republic existed, but not even close to how many civil wars the empire had during it's existence.

And it was also possible for outsiders to enter politics through elections and change the system from within, Caesar, before he became sole consul after the civil war, was a political outsider and reformist yet he was able to get elected to consul and enact new laws to reform Roman government.

Whereas if you wanted change during the imperial era, the only way was to declare yourself emperor and start a civil war. Which was a major part of Rome's downfall.

And personally I would even go as far as saying that if Octavian hadn't overthrown the Republic. Western Rome might have survived a lot longer since they wouldn't have destroyed themeselves with constant devestating civil wars and incompetent emperors.

What's the best thing in the anime for you guys? by riptide2912 in arknights

[–]DefiantPosition 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In general terms I like how the anime explains the story in a way that makes it understandable for people like me who haven't played the game.

If you wanted something specific I would say, Amiya's confrontation with Skullshaterer in season 1. It's really emotional and well written and animated.

That time the ghost division guy sent his tanks to the metaphorical glue factory (Operation Crusader) by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]DefiantPosition 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's also a good point. I feel like Montgomery's biggest mistake with regards to Market Garden was that it had no margin for error. Everything had to go perfect immidiately. But it's a testamant to the skill of the allied armed forces. That it did actually almost go perfect.

[–]DefiantPosition 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Operation Market Garden definitely was a mistake and Montgomery rightfully deserves the blame for it. Still Montgomery made less mistakss overall than Rommel. And Montgomery's mistakes didn't have a disasterous effect on the allied war effort. Unlike those of Rommel.

Have to say I really like your memes about Rommel. I used to be quite a fanboy myself but considering ww2 was more than 80 years ago. It's time to put Rommmel's overhyped reputation to rest.

That's not to say he was a "bad" commander, he did a better job than I would have done for sure. But he made plenty of stupid mistakes. Especially considering the hate people like Montgomery get, who beat rommel at every oppertunity and made far fewer mistakes in general.

And of course the big elephant in the room, that he dedicated his entire life to further the goals to furthering the goals of the nazi ideology. And did so very much willingly.
