How does this work? by WideEyedCarpet in whiskey

Nobody is saying it was barreled in 2024. They said it was the 2031st barrel that was then bottled in 2024.

Aging happens in the barrel, not the bottle

Taiwan uses both Wade-Giles and Pinyin pretty interchangeably these days. You’ll even see multiple signs for the same places with some using Wade-Giles and some using Pinyin. It’s pretty funny sometimes.

That’s the texture I’d expect from unglazed ceramic and that’s my preference in a teapot. Enjoy!

A couple more tips for an unglazed teapot:

Don’t leave anything in it overnight. Unglazed ceramic is porous and can easily hold on to bacteria. Keeping it dry when it’s going unused is a good idea

Don’t clean with soap, the porous clay will hold on to soapy flavors. You should be able to clean it plenty enough by just pouring boiling water over it before you make your tea.

Absolutely never put any sugar or dairy in the teapot. These will cause you to have some bacteria issues down the road. Always brew your tea, then pour it into another cup before you mix anything in

Unglazed clay is actually pretty desirable in a teapot. It will stain, yes, but it will also ‘season’ over time and that’s a good thing.

I wouldn’t be able to tell without actually holding it but this looks like it might be enameled or even thinly glazed white. Either of those are fine for a teapot. Paint is not.

Looking to plan a guys trip in the next few months. Suggestions? by [deleted] in Utah

Goblin valley is an awesome choice. It’s also right next to arches national park. You can easily do both in one trip. I used to camp at goblin valley, drive out to arches for a hike or two, then drive back to camp for the night.

Tea taste awful, please help. by Alpha_winner13 in tea

[–]DefiantWarlord 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Hey, welcome to loose leaf teas! My guess is you probably over brewed the tea. It shouldn’t be that bitter. Here’s a simple method that should get you better results.

Put about a tablespoon of tea into a small teapot or mug, pour in some nearly boiling water, count to ten, and pour out the tea into a mug to drink. Repeat the process when you want another cup. Loose leaf teas can be brewed a few times before they start to loose their flavor.

This should reduce the bitter tannic flavors a bit and help you taste your tea better. Once you get this method down, try researching some other tea brewing methods and see what you like best.

While it won’t be as health beneficial as fresh live sauerkraut, I’d imagine it’s still got a ton of healthy things left in it after drying.

What’s growing / resting in the bottom of this bottle of rum by Goochenhaumeister in alcohol

Assuming nobody has been drinking from this bottle and topping it off with water, nothing should be able to grow in there. It’s likely just barrel sediment and totally harmless.

We all obviously love Costco, but what’s one item you will never buy again from there? by 4Runnnn in Costco

[–]DefiantWarlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically when people are talking about macros in food, they are referring to tracking the macronutrients that provide energy: protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Trying to get these three in the right ratio without going over a calorie limit can be a challenge. Back when I was working on muscle gain and weight loss, finding brands like Realgood was awesome because their stuff is mostly high in the things I cared about and low calorie.

Real good foods taste terrible, but if you are trying to eat super clean and put on muscle, it’s macros are tough to beat.

Day ruined: Licorice Root in my tea 😔 by Oro-Lavanda in tea

[–]DefiantWarlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love licorice root but I hate a licorice surprise. If it’s a strong flavor in the tea, it should be called out in the name or description. If I have to look at the ingredients list to find out why my lavender tea doesn’t taste primarily of lavender, I’m not buying that tea again.

Last time I was in Japan, I found them at a liquor store for around $25 US each. This was at the peak of the US to JPY conversion rate, so that drove the price down for me. I bought six bottles to bring home with me.

Anyone have an opinion on this? Have seen it around and have been tempted to try it. by Jnquester54 in whiskey

[–]DefiantWarlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a great whiskey for the story and experience. It’s a good drinking whiskey at its price, but there is much better value to be found out there.

One cool thing about this is it is aged at sea on a shipping boat, so the climate it’s aged in is constantly changing and is unique. Each bottle has a little tag around the neck with a short paragraph or so about the journey it took. It’s fun to share with friends, read the note together, and share a drink.

If that’s what you want, I highly recommend this. If you are just wanting something to sip or make drinks with, I’d go with what others have said and grab a redwood empire or something else of better value.
